A world wide enthusiasm
Even in an age of video and computer games, chess still continues to be one of the most popular and challenging of the gaming pastimes and enjoys a world wide enthusiasm as evidenced by a proliferation of chess clubs, organizations, and tournaments. "Starting Out: Sicilian Grand Prix Attack" by British Grandmaster Gawain Jones focuses specifically on the Grand Prix Attack as one of White's most ...

WHEN RACING DRIVERS MATTERED.....
Richard Williams has done a masterful job of re-creating what I call "period-feel" in his splendid little book "The Last Road Race." What he actually does in the early-mid chapters is to examine the personalities of the key drivers who found themselves at Pescara in 1957 and how their driving careers started and evolved up to that point. He inserts characters such as legendary motor racing ...

In Depth Read of resistance Networks
I found this book especially engrossing because it combines two things I am very fond of - history and motorsports. However, the fact that Williams and Benoist are Grand Prix drivers is more of an interesting sidebar; the focus is on their actions during World War II. During the war, Williams was sent to France to help set up resistance networks to foil Nazi plans and help the Allies win the ...

Same Old Chilton's, but Good to Have Around
This is more a repair/replace manual than a trouble shooting manual. So much of these cars is now so computer driven and electrical that a shop that has the right instruments really needs to trouble shoot problems via the computer. Otherwise, this manual is great for a lot of basics as well as wiring and capacities. I use the manual (and the other ones I have for my other cars) for brakes, ...
Grand Prix Data Book
David Hayhoe
Haynes Publishing
, 2006
This long-standing reference work is rightly regarded as the 'Wisden' of Formula 1. The meticulously researched data contains everything the enthusiast needs to know about Formula One events and personalities, from the first World Championship Grand Prix at Silverstone in 1950, to the end of the 2005 Formula One season. Every driver, team, circuit and race is scrutinized in detail, providing an invaluable and accurate reference source. From the ...

A simply must-read!
This is without doubt the most gripping, insightful and authoritative read about drivers in Formula One. Written around a series of intimate, unguarded and in-depth interviews with drivers it affords the reader a real insight into the experience of driving the world's most beautiful race cars. The chapter about accidents contains some of the most descriptive, articulate work, but one needs to ...
Grand Prix! Rare Images of the First 100 Years
Quentin Spurring
David Bull Publishing,U.S.
, 2006
This richly illustrated photographic essay captures the human drama and technical ingenuity that have characterized Grand Prix racing ever since the first event in 1906. Many of these photographs have never been published before, including wonderful images from early glass-plate negatives. The book graphically tells the story of the iconic cars that changed the sport over the past 100 years and the men who raced them- the greatest drivers ...

Grand Prix Racers
The photographs are wonderful, of course. The bios on each driver are so informative. I was learning things I never knew and I have followed the sport of Formula One for over 40 years. Didn't want it to end. Wish they could do another as there are so many more drivers that could be included.

An outstanding, extensive, in-depth reference.
Grand Prix Cars 1945-65 is an outstanding, extensive reference and is one of the most in-depth works on the subject in print: it describes all Grand Prix cars of the period, from specs to racing achievements and background, and even includes projects never raced but contemplated. Each entry is accompanied by a small black and white photo and the author has interviewed many originators of the ...

Good information on F-1 tracks.
Good information of F-1 tracks. The overhead view of each track is very helpful to the seasoned as well as the novice F-1 fan. Frequent typographical errors distract form and otherwise excellent. The one error that particulary stands out is the date of Jimmy Clark's death at Hockenheim. He died in 1968, not 1958.

And excellent opening to to surprise your opponent. Many non-master level players get a sudden shock from a lower ranked player if unprepared. Many a young player has scored a win with this opening as white.

A very good read
The best book I've read on the Donington GP of 1937-38. Well researched with excellent photographs of the events. Anyone who's interested in pre WWII racing will enjoy this book.
