Surgical Recall (Recall Series)43 reviews

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2008

Excellent quick review
This book is in short, Q&A style, and is excellent for quick review, especially when you have 10 minutes before a case starts. During surgeries, I got asked a lot of questions straight out of the book. A more thorough book is needed for in-depth info, but this book is great to carry around with you and read in those rare spare minutes.

Establishing a System of Policies and Procedures29 reviews
Stephen Page

Process Improvement Publisher

Nasty Reviews
I love these procedure books and they are the most comprehensive on the web. To see nasty reviews from a reviewer that is ranked 1,065,501 on Amazon's reviewers list is atrocious. Take it from me, a seasoned policy and procedure writer, this book is truly a landmark for both beginners and seasoned writers like me. Think about it. The book is short and takes about 2 hours to read. Believe you me, ...

Forensic Art and Illustration101 reviews

CRC, 2000

Fascinating and invaluable!
Even if you have no sculpting talent whatsoever, this book is an engrossing read and a valuable reference for any crime or mystery writer. Karen Taylor has consulted for such hit TV shows as CSI and BONES and she definitely knows what she's talking about. The text is lucid and engaging and not at all intimidating, while the photos and diagrams alone are worth the price of admission!

Class Action: The Story of Lois Jenson and the Landmark Case That Changed Sexual Harassment Law25 reviews
Clara Bingham, Laura Leedy Gansler

Doubleday, 2002

Iron determination
Like some other reviewers I came across this book after seeing the movie North Country. The movie though is just good entertainment pulling at the heartstrings and very loosely based on the legal problems of single mother Lois Jenson. The book, I'm pleased to say, is much more gripping and will keep you turning the pages until the end. I thought it raised various issues like: *Why did ...

Robert's Rules for Dummies30 reviews
C. Alan Jennings

For Dummies, 2004

This book is outstanding
Alan does a fabulous job making sense of Robert's Rules. I became a new Chairman of a committee with no experience in the Rules. After reading his book I felt confident I could run the meeting in the proper format. I now keep the book with me at all meetings as a handy reference. Thanks for a great resource. Also, I love the way he gives relevant examples of potential circumstances and how ...

Steven Kerry Brown

Alpha, 2007

EXCELLENT REFERENCE BOOK FOR P.I.'s!!
My husband and I own a private investigation agency in Florida. I ordered this book based on other positive reviews and it exceeded my expectations. The numerous web site resources listed in this book by Mr. Brown make it worth purchasing. Reading the book was like taking a mini-course on private investigation, and whether you are a newbie or an experienced investigator you can learn a lot from ...

I recently finished my first year at a top tier law school. This book did so much for me. If you are serious about getting good grades in CivPro, I think you should seriously consider this book. It forces you to understand the concepts and work through the rules, which is vital to doing well on exams. Don't stress about exams. This will help you.

Lincoln's Assassins: Their Trial and Execution21 reviews
James L. Swanson, Daniel R. Weinberg

Arena Editions, 2001

Avid Lincoln Reader
I saw James Swanson giving a speech about his other book "Manhunt" and found him fascinating to listen to. he knew facts that I had never heard before and could describe them with such detail I felt like I was watching it happen. I read "Manhunt" and was thrilled to have the details of those twelve days come to life. When I saw this book I snatched it up as quickly as I could. It is the ...

Veto procedures (House Research information brief)14 reviews
Joel Michael

Research Dept., Minnesota House of Representatives, 1992

Unpopular but honest account of the Sino-Indo Conflict
Since the book tells the truth of Nehru's government's foolishness, arogance, adventurism and opportunist mentality, this otherwise excellent book however was not very popular in India, even to this date. The disputed McMahon Line was a unilateral imaginary line drawn by the British colony authorities without the awareness of the Chinese and without consulting to the Chinese government. ...

The Oxford Companion to the Supreme Court of the United States14 reviews

Oxford University Press, USA, 1992

A worthy companion
As the nation prepares to welcome the seventeenth Chief Justice, this book is a wonderful guide to the processes of the least 'media-exposed' branch of the federal government and its highest institution, the Supreme Court. This book has many handy features for researchers and general enthusiasts. There are brief biographies - personal, professional and judicial - of each of the Chief ...

Joseph W. Glannon

Aspen Publishers, 2003

excellent study aid
Without a doubt this is an essential key to success in civil procedure. I basically outlined this book along with my class notes and got an A on the exam. Very, very, very good aid.

Practical Homicide Investigation Tactics, Procedures, and Forensic Techniques (Crc Series in Practical ...24 reviews
Vernon J. Geberth

CRC, 1992

A Morbid Classic!
Talk about a disturbing book. This one will probably give you nightmares if you haven't desensitized yourself to violence yet. If your denial mechanism is in disrepair, you'd probably be best to avoid this book which is the "Bible" of crime scene investigation techniques. Extremely graphic photographs of murder and suicide victims along with a compelling forensic text with such chapters as 'The ...

BLACK'S LAW: A Criminal Lawyer Reveals His Defense Strategies in Four Cliffhanger Cases14 reviews
Roy Black

Simon & Schuster, 2000

Legal Education for all
A great book. Written by a expert in communication. Each case brought you into the defense, you believe in the actions brought forward to give not only a legal defense by our constitution but to see a inocent person never is incarcerated,if that ever comes to pass. I would hope Mr. Black will write more, he is able to take a very complicated subject and break it down to a laymans understanding.

Hostile Witness14 reviews
Rebecca Forster

Signet, 2004

Absolutely riveting from start to finish
I haven't read many legal thrillers in the past few years, but I think I am going to have to add more books of this genre to my future reading list - especially those written by Rebecca Forster. Hostile Witness is just a fantastic, completely absorbing read, the kind of book that makes you hate your job because having to get up early for work means having to set the novel aside in the wee hours ...

Serial Murderers And Their Victims (The Wadsworth Contemporary Issues in Crime and Justice Series)14 reviews
Eric W. Hickey

Wadsworth Pub Co, 2005

Know what you are looking at
I am a graduate student of Dr. Hickey's at California State University, Fresno. I came to this institution specifically as a matter of curricula, and I must say that after a review of the literature both broad and exhaustive Dr. Hickey's book is the closest thing we have to the reality of our special killers' doctrine. What is most compelling about this piece of literature is the open mentality ...

How to probate an estate (How to Probate an Estate: California)15 reviews
Julia P Nissley

Nolo Press, 1990

Indispensable. Beautifully written, thoughtfully compiled, and will save you a fortune.
After my mother passed away and I was named executor, I discovered something: California's probate system is a massive, elaborate joke designed to make lawyers rich. It's incomprehensible how convoluted the process is, and how absolutely ZERO help is available. (The court clerks I turned to answered every question with this: "I can't tell you! I'm not a judge!" And, of course, it's not like ...
