Digital Signal Processing (4th Edition)4 reviews
John G. Proakis, Dimitris K Manolakis

Prentice Hall, 2006

Cannibalizing on Manolakis' other book?!
I just got it the other day, and saw much more changes than was originally reported. Most of the deletions are in the earlier chapters dealing with basic concepts of DSP (something usually dealt with in a senior undergraduate class on DSP), while the additions are mostly in the later chapters dealing with more advanced concepts - stuff usually dealt with in an advanced/graduate level course. ...

Speech and Language Processing: An Introduction to Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics, ...1 review
Dan Jurafsky

Pearson Education, 2008

Great introductions and reference book
I read the first edition of that book and it is terrific. The second edition is much more adapted to current research. Statistical methods in NLP are more detailed and some syntax-based approaches are presented. My specific interest is in machine translation and dialogue systems. Both chapters are extensively rewritten and much more elaborated. I believe this book is perfect for everyone who ...

Signal Processing and Linear Systems12 reviews
B. P. Lathi

Oxford University Press, USA, 2000

Great Undergraduate Signals and Systems Textbook
This is truly a superior book for teaching Signals and Systems. It far outpaces the competition in my mind, especially in terms of conceptual descriptions, examples, and readability. It was the only text (I have looked at the most popular 6) that I found that is written in a coherent and readable manner, such that it could serve as a standalone self-paced tutorial. I am teaching this course for ...

Learning Processing: A Beginner's Guide to Programming Images, Animation, and Interaction (Morgan Kaufmann ...1 review
Daniel Shiffman

Morgan Kaufmann, 2008

The Friendliest Book
I just received this book yesterday, and I have to say that this book is probably the friendliest "instructional" book. I say instructional, instead of programming because as a designer, I can comprehend the concepts that Shiffman talks about. It's even friendlier than some Photoshop and Flash books that I've read through. I have both Shiffman's and Casey Reas' book (last year), and I'm ...

Database Processing: Fundamentals, Design, and Implementation (10th Edition)7 reviews
David Kroenke

Prentice Hall, 2005

It's actually very good...
I find it difficult to believe that there are too many errors strewn throughout the book. Most of the examples are in basic SQL, so some tailoring might be required for it to fit your individual DBMS. Of course, you can always go to the last chapters for practical applications using proprietary software. This leads me to remind the buyer that the book is about concepts and design, not ...

Discrete-Time Signal Processing (2nd Edition) (Prentice-Hall Signal Processing Series)25 reviews
Alan V. Oppenheim, Ronald W. Schafer, ...

Prentice Hall, 1999

Six star book on Digital Signal Processing
This is the outstanding 2nd edition of Oppenheim's classic DSP book, which for over two decades was the only real choice for a textbook on the subject. That was too bad, since the first edition was probably the worst thing I have ever seen in print - terse, incomprehensible, and with only a few awful and poorly illustrated examples. When I decided to take a refresher course in DSP, I was ...

Speech and Language Processing (2nd Edition) (Prentice Hall Series in Artificial Intelligence)1 review
Daniel Jurafsky, James H. Martin

Prentice Hall, 2008

Great introductions and reference book
I read the first edition of that book and it is terrific. The second edition is much more adapted to current research. Statistical methods in NLP are more detailed and some syntax-based approaches are presented. My specific interest is in machine translation and dialogue systems. Both chapters are extensively rewritten and much more elaborated. I believe this book is perfect for everyone who ...

Signal Processing First12 reviews
James H. McClellan, Ronald W. Schafer, ...

Prentice Hall, 2003

Great Book
I think this book is absolutely outstanding. I don't understand any of the negative comments. The cd that comes with the book is indispensble. It provides example after example. I actually bought schaum's outline of dsp as well, but because of all the examples on the cd (they are handwritten) I don't even have a need to refer to the outline. In addition, I thought the content of the chapters ...

Digital Image Processing (3rd Edition)22 reviews
Rafael C. Gonzalez, Richard E. Woods

Prentice Hall, 2007

Turn Knowledge into Code
This is the best, most understandable image processing book I ever read. It is the only image processing book I've ever read in which I could immediately turn the concepts into code (IDL). I spent most of a Christmas vacation thinking it was a novel I couldn't put down. That's about as good as it gets for a technical book! Well done, Gentlemen.

Processing: A Programming Handbook for Visual Designers and Artists9 reviews
Casey Reas, Ben Fry

The MIT Press, 2007

More than a reference book!
I have been watching the development of processing and the processing community for a few years but until now haven't explored it much. I create live visuals for musical performances - mostly within the chiptunes music scene (people using game console hardware to create new music). Originally I did all of my work with PureData, GEM and other libraries but then decided to move to performing with ...

Processing: Creative Coding and Computational Art (Foundation)5 reviews
Ira Greenberg

friends of ED, 2007

Great tutorial on a simple language that produces beautiful computer art
This is a very good book on the Processing language, which is an object-oriented languaged based on Java that is used for computer art. It allows computer artists to produce attractive computer-generated art without having to become experts on the Java language, Java3D, Java2D, and all of the other associated Java multimedia APIs. The Processing language's home page has considerable tutorial ...

Practical Crime Scene Processing and Investigation (Crc Series in Practical Aspects of Criminal and Forensic ...1 review
Ross M. Gardner

CRC, 2004

Excellent Text
This book is an outstanding reference on crime scene investigation. Gardner writes from experience after many years with the US Army's Criminal Investigation Division, an agency known for their superb crime scene skills. Gardner's book covers the many facets of crime scene investigation with particular emphasis on documentation, one of the most important aspects. He presents the Army's 18-step ...

Materials: Engineering, Science, Processing and Design1 review
Michael Ashby, Hugh Shercliff, ...

Butterworth-Heinemann, 2007

Worst Textbook I've had in college
This book is pointless common sense and there are no examples of the problems they ask you to solve at the end of the chapters. Plus there were many misspellings, bad grammar, and poorly written ambiguous questions.

Understanding Digital Signal Processing (2nd Edition)59 reviews
Richard G. Lyons

Prentice Hall PTR, 2004

THE book to use to learn, to understand, DSP
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to Richard Lyons for "Understanding Digital Signal Processing", both editions. I had the great pleasure to use and learn from the 1st edition about 5 years ago. At that time, I had the overwhelming urge to convey my appreciation for the wonderful work. Now that the 2nd edition is out, there is even more reason to express how much I enjoyed and still enjoy ...

Digital Signal Processing8 reviews
Sanjit K Mitra

McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math, 2005

Very Good Book
This is very good book for teaching and for self study of digital signal processing. It is especially useful for Matlab users.

Schaum's Outline of Digital Signal Processing (Schaum's)14 reviews
Monson H. Hayes

McGraw-Hill, 1998

Excellent Refreshing supplement for revision
This book is a carefully written one which will enable any student to revise thoroughly before DSP exam. It has an outstanding collection of solved problems like most other Schaum's outlines. This book is to be used as a supplement book to any standard DSP book like Oppenheim or Proakis & Manolakis. This book can make quite a lot of difference in final grades of most of students. So, it is ...

Introductory Digital Image Processing (3rd Edition) (Prentice Hall Series in Geographic Information Science)4 reviews
John R Jensen

Prentice Hall, 2004

My short experiance
I am the student and I knew about this book from my lecturer. This book content a very good theory of remote sensing and image interpretation.Very poor because I have a photostat copy this book. It's too expensive here. The example all of Image inside this book is very the best. That all.

Digital Image Processing Using MATLAB(R)7 reviews
Rafael C. Gonzalez, Richard E. Woods, ...

Prentice Hall, 2003

Superb instructional book for my needs
I bought this book for two reasons (a) I needed an overview of IP and (b) I wanted to examine different pattern analysis algorithms with a practical twist. On both counts, as an non-IP researcher, I was very satisfied. The book is very well laid out, so well in fact that it would put to shame many of its rivals. It served my needs. I can't comment on whether it will meet the needs of a ...

Keyboarding and Word Processing Lessons 1-601 review
Susie H. Vanhuss

Thomson Learning, 2005

Just what I wanted but you also need check pro License
This is the book used in my keyboarding II class but I found that it does not come with the check pro program CD. You must also purchase the check pro License CD for $15 to run the program.
