Definitive guide
Customers and clients have asked me for years, "Is there a book that covers all this?". To date, my response was, "Not really. Check out these blogs..." Well not anymore. This book offers a tremendous baseline of TFS/VS 2010 information. I buy it for all my clients-at the onset of any 2010 implementation. Sure, you'll need to consult other resources to drill deep on specific areas but this book ...

Fantastic!
I just finished this book and I have to gush about it. It was one of those rare 4am readers for me. After I finished it I read the covers and was surprised to see it was a first time author. At first I thought it was a sci-fi book based on the inside blurb and thought I'd give it a try, but it's not. The book is just well written and easy to read. The characters are easy to like. Very good ...

One of the two best books for software developers
I wish that every new developer we hire had read this book and McConnnell's Code Complete. Between them, they're the knowledge that college degrees in CS don't give you, but that is invaluable knowledge in actually coding for hire. I'm on my fifth or sixth copy of the Pragmatic Programmer now, as I tend to give them out to anyone fresh out of college and/or willing to read.

A fun read for real hackers
This rather unusual book collects long interviews the author has conducted with 15 famous programmers, all of which have earned wide acclaim for their skills and contributions (Don Knuth, Peter Norvig, Simon Peyton Jones, Ken Thompson and Guy Steele are some of the best known ones). Peter Seibel is a talented interviewer, which makes the book an interesting read. He asks insightful questions ...

Not perfect, but a great intro to Android
As other reviewers have pointed out, this isn't a perfect book. But honestly, if you're a programmer, I think you're used to that in these kinds of books. I have never had a book without some typos or compile problems. It happens. I've also run across books that are 1500 pages long, and most of those are nothing more than repackaged documentation included with the technology. Length ...

Best book Ever
I think this is the first review I have given to any book so far bought from Amazon: This was the first book I ever read from start to end(2nd one is Head first Servlets and JSPs). I am not a good reader an am more into class room lectures. This book is exactly what I am into. It gives you a feeling of being in a class room and answers all the queries that come to your mind within 1-2pages. ...

Highly recommended book for architects and developers
In the light of some of the poor reviews below, I wanted to offer my opinion on this book. I have worked with SharePoint for years both as a developer and architect, so you can trust me when I say I know how complex this product has become. To expect a book to in detail cover all possible corners of the API is simply silly -it wouldnt be done until next version of the product was out... The ...

Visual Studio Tome
I've been using Visual Studio for development for as long as .NET has been around, I've had no problem getting code written, compiled and debugged. In the back of my mind I knew that Visual Studio had a heap of features and would often see a presenter press a button here, or change a setting there, and would think that one day I'll spend some time digging deeper into Visual Studio. With ...

Very comprehensive
A very comprehensive book on the subject, althought it seems a mile wild and an inch deep. On the other hand, if it were any other way they would have to charge thouosands of dollars in shpping, considering the size of the zrea they tackled. It's still very useful, even though it dosen't go as deeply into things as I would like. As a reference to have around when you need refreshing on ...

Imar does it again
While I've already read Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 by Imar Spaanjaars and moved rather far beyond it, when I had the opportunity to recieve his new book on ASP.NET 4 for review, I took it. Would I still feel strongly about recommending his work as *the* #1 choice for those new (or relatively new) to ASP.NET? Would it offer enough new content over the previous iteration that I'd recommend a new ...

A superb, more advanced guide to WordPress
"Professional WordPress - Design and Development" is a superb book that will be appreciated greatly by developers looking to WordPress (WP) for the first time or for giving them a more thorough understanding of the inner-workings of WP. WordPress, as I write this, is at the WordPress 3.0 beta 2 cycle of development. This book will still be pertinent even though it was not specifically written as ...

The "all you want to know" PL/SQL reference book
If you're looking for a book that can be your reference for every doubt you may have in PL/SQL programming, its syntax and constructions, that's the book for you. The examples are very clear and easy to understand. The author uses examples in both ways, before applying a certain functionality and after applying it, which makes comprehension much better. In case I had no PL/SQL book so far, I ...

Fast, Entertaining Enough, Zero Depth
Book Club Review STORM CYCLE Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen Our book club's book for February was STORM CYCLE, by Iris and Roy Johansen. We chose this book because we were in the mood for a thriller. We tend to read more "mystery" books with a crime to solve, rather than international thrillers like this one, and we decided we'd like a change of pace. We also like fast-moving books (I ...

Very good for beginners to the Intermediate level
Having read and worked with so many programming books, I know what works for me. The books I like start with a very clear basic overview of the subject, it's historical significance and the ground the book will cover. It will get you started quickly, helping with installation of and familiarity in the development environment. This is important because knowing how to use the development envirement ...

An interesting concept for a programming book
This book is intended for Microsoft SQL Server database administrators who are not yet familiar with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). You should have enough understanding to be able to run queries manipulating data. This is a beginner level book so far as SSIS is concerned. As such it doesn't cover every little detail but by the end of the book you will have enough information to use SSIS ...

Excellent TextBook in Visual Basic 2010
Rod Stephens, all times amazed me with his books and this one is not an exception. The Visual Basic 2010 Programmer's Reference, is a great textbook written with the accumulation of experiences from VB 7.0, 7.1, 8, and VB (9) 2009. Visual Basic 2010, is the best among the (Visual Basic) .NET, and Rod has been able to present a very good book, that can be use for the beginners as well for the ...
