This one Rocks... er... Wrox!!
Bill, Scott, and Devin really did a great job pulling together key topics in ASP.NET 3.5. This book is huge... weighting in at 1,584 pages not counting the online resources and index. It basically covers everything any developer would want to brush up on or learn completely from scratch. I was only looking to learn about caching for scaling issues( and it was a great chapter 23), but I learned ...

Great Introductionary SharePoint Book
When I started learning SharePoint, one of the biggest fundamental problem I had was to understand the new terms used in SharePoint. Sites, Site Collection, Web Application, Site Column, Content Types are some of those terms. Without understanding these basic terms, its hard to understand power of Sharepoint. Doesn't matter whether you are great SharePoint programmer or administrator, you need to ...

Drink Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, lots of them!
I give this book full set of stars because of the tremendous effort made by the author to simplify the process. My only problem with this book is. It is too slow as to the way it explains the subjects. The author directs you to download the example files but then totally crawls when it comes to "using the project files." The book in packed with information but it should have been written ...

Another Excellent Stephens Book!
I have taught programming for about 20 years in a local college. I have several other Rod Stephens books so when I needed a book to help me with the new features in Visual Basic 2008, this book was my first choice. I was not disappointed. At over 1000 pages it covers just about everything you might need, whether you are a beginner or an expert. The good explanations are backed up by good ...

Loved! Pragmatic Thinking and Learning
Really enjoyed the book, Andy's insight and research really hit home for me. After reading it "consider the context" has become my mantra, knowing the Dreyfus Model has given me good insight into the different stages of learning and I've even bought some fresh colour pencils to start Mind Mapping. The book is chocful of practical examples that are fun and sometimes down right amazing... ...

Great for preparing for a job and SAS Base exam
When I started learning SAS from this book, I had two goals in mind: 1. Improve my SAS skills for a SAS programmer job. 2. Pass SAS Base certification exam. I decided to use this book and not SAS Certification Prep guide because SAS certification Prep Guide wouldn't teach me how to program like Cody's book did. Cody's book gives lots of exercises to practice. However, when I took a SAS ...

Very informative!
So far this book is great for basics. It gives a great overview of all the options you have to create a SSIS package. I had previously purchased the expert version because I had DTS experience and realized SSIS was totally different. So I bought the professional version and it's filled in a lot of gaps. It's also got nice tutorials at the end of the chapters that help you to create a basic SSIS ...

Let me start with a disclaimer: I know Nick Randolph and Dave Gardner personally through my involvement with the Perth .NET user group. I reviewed the Visual Studio 2005 predecessor of this book some time ago, and I think the ...

Excellent Book - Must Have for any Ruby Developer
First and foremost, this book isn't a beginners guide to ruby, it doesn't hold your hand from "Hello, world", and it expects you to already know the basics of programming. Also, this book isn't a tutorial, it's a reference book first and foremost, and while it *does* guide you through some of ruby's basics that's not the primary intent. While there are excellent tutorials for learning ruby on ...

Good for a beginner
I was given this book by one of the Author (John Holiday) during a training on Enterprise Content Management. I have collected quite a few books on SharePoint most proclaiming to be a developers guide but they have chapters after chapters devoted to configuring WWS 3.0 or MOSS. However, this book gives you a very good start and provides step by step guide on creating various solution. I ...

Extremely Good Text
I've been using Access off and on since Windows 95 and Access 2. This is absolutely one of the best texts on VBA I have read. Examples are clear, and appropriate; and explainations are complete without being longer than the need to be. The coverage of Access 2007's new features appears to be right on the money.
