The Definitive Self Defense Guide
Hands down the best self defense book on the market. There is nothing out there that can match the detail and strategic principles that are presented in this book. You can go to countless martial art schools and you'd still miss the essence of fighting that you can learn about in Attack Proof. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Sad truth
I read this book after a trip to Australia and after seeing the movie. Don't know what to say about it other then it left me speechless. Is there a country anywhere in the world that hasn't treated it's indigenous people horribly at some point? Rabbit Proof Fence is a pretty amazing story of human spirit. I would suggest reading the book first then seeing the movie.

Fascinating book
I really loved this book and was fascinated by the topic. No, not the baby topic (though I thought it was very well drawn out with Claudia, her sisters and Jess), but the idea of what would be a non-negotiable issue in an otherwise wonderful relationship. Giffin is a smart writer and makes the book entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. Also, really loved the ending. I love that ...

how i understand Godel
Godel was able to construct a formula from the axioms of Principia Mathematica (PM, and related systems, due to Russell and Whitehead) that is (roughly) "There exists no proof for this formula". This IS the formula itself. now, we need to know if this is true or not. so we try to find a proof for it within PM. if it is possible to find the proof, that means the formula is correct. but the formula ...

Excellent Insight
Peter Schiff has a remarkable track record for divining the future. His videos, available on Youtube, display back bone and wisdom in standing up to the tide of popular opinion. The guy shows poise and self control in the face of overwhelming contrary positions. I too held the same opinion, "The economy is in trouble!". I wasn't sure what to do about it. And it was through a chance hit, that ...

This play captures the essence of mathematicians and some of the ways they do mathematics. For the last few years Catherine has suppressed her desire to study mathematics at Northwestern University in order to care for her father. Robert has just ...

This book really helped our marriage
I read this book in conjunction with an 8-week class my wife and I joined because we were having a tough time. Now that the class is over, I am totally amazed at the positive impact the book had on our 23-year marriage. The book defines three stages that married partners move through: intimacy, conflict and withdrawal. I was firmly in withdrawal when I started the class. And after the first ...

Best New Book of 2008
This books is creative and energetic in a way that very few titles are able to achieve these days. It is easy to get lost in the fact that the title character is actually BIGFOOT and he is a government agent working for a secret agency called The Lodge trying to locate cryptids (creatures like fairies, gnomes, and dinosaurs that exist but should not have been seen by humans) but that is really ...

this is THE BOOK!
One of the most important mathematicians in the last quarter of a century was, arguably, Paul Erdos. At least we could say he was the one who travelled the most, and who had more collaborations with other mathematicians in the areas of Graph Theory, Combinatorics, etc. One of his dreams was to assemble a collection of all the most beautiful proofs in Mathematics, in which God would maintain ...

Good Drama... bad for Mathematics, bad sociology
The play promotes misconceptions of about mathematics and the people it involves: 1) age-ism: That if you haven't done it by 30 you never will: the Fields Medal 40 age limit seem to chip into this poisonous porism. "Ageism can be defined as "any attitude, action, or institutional structure which subordinates a person or group because of age or any assignment of roles in society purely on the ...

Easy to read, easy to follow, easy to succeed
This is a great book. I found it very easy to read. Mary speaks from personal experience and it's like have a close friend right there with you in the trenches. We've begun to implement her plan and I can already see a difference in our monthly expenses. It's not an instant fix, but then we didn't get in this financial hole in a day either. Steady progress without any steps backwards, that's ...

How many of you remember doing geometry proofs in High School? How many of you enjoyed writing them? I don't know about you but I've always preferred pictures to words when it comes to understanding how something works. Practical, prescient advice from Peele
It is fascinating to see Stanton Peele turn his attention to rearing non-addicted children. For decades, Dr. Peele championed the view that addiction is best approached at a societal, familial, and personal level - that the recent surge in the "addiction-as-a-brain-disease" concept is misguided and more significantly self-defeating. Instead his book approaches the genesis of addiction in the ...
