Cadillac XLR1 review

Word House LLC, 2003

An excellent car worth an excellent book.
This is certainly not one of those one model type of books that is based mainly on material from the standard press kits. On the contrary: written by John McCormick, a notable automotive journalist (CAR, Auto Week, Ward's Auto World), this book tells the complete story about the development of the Evoq prototype from 1999 into the production XLR as introduced in 2003. The XLR, already shown to ...

Diesel Detailing Projects: Prototype Modeling in Ho Scale1 review

Kalmbach Pub Co, 1995

Great Diesel Projects...
I have read the Diesel Detailing Projects. I must say that this book is all you need to get started on your first model. I have recreated a different model than the first model, but, this book helped me out with various tips and tricks of the trade. I suggest that you buy this book and read it if you are into the hobby deeply.

Track Planning for Realistic Operation: Prototype Railroad Concepts for Your Model Railroad (Model ...14 reviews
John H. Armstrong

Kalmbach Publishing Company, 1998

The Master's Masterpiece
John Armstrong is one of the best known names to the model railroad hobby. He has written extensively but this book is his finest work. A person interested in railroads finds himself caught up in lots of detailed scenes and complex trackwork. Armstrong explains what it all does and why it is arranged in the way it is. He does this by explaining railroad practice in the real world and then by ...

Electronic Project Design and Fabrication1 review
Ronald A. Reis

Merrill Pub Co, 1991

It hepls students to be engineers.
This book is an excellent starting point in the electronic engineering. The book is written for students and technicians, "not for engineers"; however, the author keeps a high academic level and covers all the topics of electronic engineering: design process, prototyping, CAD technologies, and documentation. I suggest the author to write other book like this one, focused on graduated engineers, ...

Experimental & Prototype U.S. Air Force Jet Fighters ( Press) (Specialty Press) (Specialty Press)5 reviews
Dennis R. Jenkins, Tony R. Landis

Specialty Pr Pub & Wholesalers, 2008

One of the Best Aviation Books in Years
No one presents aviation history better than the team of Dennis R. Jenkins and Tony R. Landis. Few authors match the scope and breadth of their research, their painstaking accuracy and their meticulous attention to detail. Virtually none match their ability to unearth previously unpublished information on interesting aircraft. "Experimental & Prototype U.S. Air Force Jet Fighters" is an ...

Goethe's Faust As a Renaissance Man: Parallels and Prototypes1 review
Harold Jantz

Gordian Pr, 1974

Essential and fatty essay that deserves all your attention!
The figure and transcendence of Faust in the Western Civilization has only been surmounted perhaps by Grail 's Legend. Under this interesting perspective the author establishes important evidences. The search of the eternal youth combined with wisdom of the golden years was always a dream. The personal drama of Faust must be judged and perceived as the final result of a host of important feats in ...

FPGA Prototyping by VHDL Examples: Xilinx Spartan-3 Version2 reviews
Pong P. Chu

Wiley-Interscience, 2008

Finally, a hands on introduction to fpga development
I have been looking for a book like this for 2 years now. It is the first book I know of that is actually written about a current development board. The author does a great job of teaching you many of the basic concepts you need to get going. I hope that people at Xilinx stand up and take notice of what the author has done. If you ask me, Xilinx's marketing or technical support department should ...

Allison11 reviews
Kimberley Nickmann

ProtoType, 1998

Great mystery-thriller with a satisfying ending.
I thought this was a wonderful mystery-thriller novel. The plot was fast paced and very edge-of-the-seat. It was one of those books you don't want to put down until you finish it, and the ending was extremely satisfying. Definitely a must-read!

Prefab Prototypes: Site-Specific Design for Offsite Construction3 reviews
Mark Anderson

Princeton Architectural Press, 2006

Beautiful and Clear
This book goes above and beyond the typical prefab picture book. The images are not only compelling but are informative in a way that brings clarity to someone who wants to have a better understanding of how prefabrication actually works. The Andreson's passion for design, experimentation, and progress is truly inspiring. As a young professional it is good to see a smaller firm doing ...

Laser Material Processing3 reviews
M. Steen, Kenneth Watkins

Springer, 2003

Very Good
This is the best material processing book for lasers that I know of. A good starter and reference book. The only other good source of reading that I know of are the LIA publications. Most importantly it describes in a surprisingly clear way the properties of a beam as they relate to processing, and good basic equations for heat transfer.

Nabi The Prototype (Nabi the Prototype)1 review
Yeon Joo Kim

TokyoPop, 2007

Pretty Good
This book contains six short stories (in manga form). The first story is about a young girl who is held captive as a bargaining chip against her father. The second is about a woman who must marry another country's King to keep the peace. Every story after these two concern children who live in a peaceful orphanage and their interactions with one another as they grow up. This book can be ...

Lewis Baltz: The Tract Houses; The Prototype Works; The New Industrial Parks Near Irvine, California (3 ...1 review
Lewis Baltz

Ram Pubns & Dist, 2005

Anonymous in Irvine.
The fifty-one black and white photos in this nicely designed book will not be to everybody's taste. The photos could not be more stark and minimalist, mostly eye level, straight on, images of almost plain walls of commercial premises in Irvine, Los Angeles. The only concession is (photo twenty-two) a close-up of an open two-switch electrical box, I bet Baltz only took this because the box cover ...

Prototype1 review
Brian Hodge

Dell, 1996

Brace Yourself for Reality
On the surface this story seems like your average tale of "horror", thanks to a synopsis that can only give you the gist while still keeping you interested. However, lightweights beware! This is a thinking person's novel. Hodge is a powerful writer and his subject matter is not to be taken lightly. Naysayers may call it "depressing", but this book has a strong hold on reality, which makes it ...

Prototype1 review
Pat Paul Jammernegg

Desperanto, 2008

Very profound poetry with a unique style....a must for your collection!
I can read these poems over and over and always discover something new in each of them. Some new concept, thought, or angle that i may have missed at first. They always keep me thinking, give me a different perspective, or show me a view i never thought existed. Thank you for introducing your own unique style of writing to the world. You are able to meld the scientific, spiritual, and ...

Prototype-Based Programming: Concepts, Languages and Applications1 review

Springer, 2001

An interesting avenue in language research
I've been meaning to write this review for a while, because this book is sorely under-recognized and underappreciated. Prototype-based programming languages were a hot research topic in the 1990s. The idea that one could create software objects directly at runtime, without classes, by piecing together data and behavior was very interesting to many, but somehow lost in the mad rush towards ...

John Deere Limited Production & Experimental Tractors1 review
Peter Letcurneau

Motorbooks International, 1994

Excellent history of John Deere engineering and development
This book was an excellent history of the behind the scenes work in the John Deere design studios during the early days of farm tractor building in the US. A superb overview of how Deere and Co. arrived at the design they built.

Porsche Prototype Era: 196 in Photographs1 review
Bill Oursler

David Bull Publishing, 2005

good reference book
This is an excellent book about the role of Porsche in the very best years of car racing. May be more color pictures should be an improvement, but in any case I think this book it's a "must" for every body who loves car racing, mainly endurance races.

Modern Housing Prototypes1 review
Roger Sherwood

Harvard University Press, 1979

succinct and well illustrated
Published in 1978, Sherwood's examination of housing prototypes still remains a valid resource for exploring and comparing multi-unit housing. The appeal of the book lies in the succinct explanation of unit types and the broad range of built examples used to illustrate different typologies. The concise text is backed up with plans, photos and illunminating axonometrics.

Protoarchitecture: Analogue and Digital Hybrids (Architectural Design)1 review

Wiley, 2008

Architectural Design's Protoarchitecture Issue Review
Writing from my perspective as an artist and professor, what is most engaging and encouraging is Mr. Sheil's advocacy for very inclusive, not exclusive, approaches toward design making processes. The architects, designers, and artists selected have significantly expanded the array of possibilities working between older and newer technologies. They represent much more fluid and integrative ...
