Anaya Publishers, 1994

The Celtic Collection: Twenty Five Knitwear Designs for Men and Women18 reviews
Alice Starmore

Anaya Publishers, 1994

like a textbook
I got into fair isle knitting in my own sweet time and count this book as a major inspiration. I've never knitted any of the patterns here and never intend to. But who cares? I've spent hours admiring and analyzing how Alice Starmore handles background/foreground color changes and translates color patterns into knit and purl. The models (except for the kids) all look like deathless vampires ...

Cuaderno De Agosto/ August Notebook (Sopa De Libros/Book Soup)1 review
Alice Vieira

Anaya Publishers, 2000

A great author
Alice Vieira is one of the greatest authors of children's books in the world. It doesn't help her very much that she's Portuguese, because that way she doesn't get much publicity. But it speaks volumes for her talent that, even so, she's managed to win prize after prize for children's literature. Some of the most beautiful and moving moments of my life while reading have come through her books. ...

Bilembambudin O El Ultimo Mago (Cuentos, Mitos Y Libros-Regalo)1 review
Elsa Bornemann

Anaya Publishers, 2005

An introduction to fantasty
This was the first fantasy book I ever read. Or maybe not, but surely this is the one that marked me the most when I was a child. I remember devouring it in two or three days, completely absorbed by the story: I was walking the streets of Bilembambudin along with the main character (a young girl), meeting strange people, solving puzzles, in the quest of something I don't quite remember now but ...

Mi Primer Libro Sobre Ordenadores/My 1st Book About Computers1 review
De Luca Novelli

Anaya Publishers, 1983

A classic reference and inspiration of my childhood
When I was 8 years only probably my interest for computers arose because of that book I received for Christmas around 1983. Still today I remember it with love as a first approach of what would be the internet in the Future and the clarity of ideas on it made me clear the idea of studying Teleccomuntications since then , idea which I didn't abandon till College ever after.

Cuentos de La Selva4 reviews
Horacio Quiroga

Anaya Publishers, 2001

bilingual teacher's saving grace
What can a bilingual teacher do when s/he notices that students look bored during read aloud? If they are in grades 2 or above, whip out Cuentos de la selva, a collection of stories about animals in the jungles of South America. Start with "El loro pelado". That will captivate them completely. After that, they will enjoy all other stories. Any student with a 5th grade reading level can read and ...

Jose Gervasio Artigas Gaucho y Confederado1 review
Manuel Lucena Salmoral

Anaya Publishers, 1994

Uruguay's Jefferson and Washington
Artigas was a man of the frontier, a cattlemen a soldier. He had the Spanish blood and traditions of the conquistadores and the ideas inspired by Jefferson. He was noble austere democratic, brave, and was defeated by the combined forces of the corrupt urban elites of Brasil and Argentina. Two hundred years later Artigas is very much alive as the creator of the Uruguayan nation, a country of 3 ...

Victorian Needlepoint7 reviews
Beth Russell

Anaya Publishers, 1992

For the very experienced
The projects in this book are excellent to say the least; I have done 3 of them; they take between 400-500 hours, but are simply elegant. The designs are beautifully done by Beth Russell, and they need to be done in Appleton tapestry. I am very glad I bought this and all of her books. They were all purchased through Amazon.com since Barnes & Noble and the other large suppliers do not have them ...

Ivanhoe63 reviews
Walter Scott, Maria del Mar Hernandez de Felipe

Anaya Publishers, 1997

a classic of honor and relationships
Ivanhoe shows up on just about every list of the 100 greatest books ever written. There is good reason for this. It's descriptions of time, place and character are vivid and engrossing. Perhaps most interestingly, the book describes an almost dizzying array of complicated relationships. Strict father to independent son, lover to lover, lover to unrequited lover, father to daughter, conquerers ...

Platero y yo10 reviews
Juan Ramon Jimenez

Anaya Publishers, 1985

Dar'bon, the mild anti-hero and Platero
A very sweet book and touching story. Not for the cynical. Read and try to imagine various friends and family members in the roles of these characters, as my friend did to me, calling me Dar'bon, as to my propensity at the time for burping and such, and while reading, laugh and celebrate a provincial, simple and endearing story of a simple lifestyle rich with meaning. Classic!

Easy to Make Knitted Toys2 reviews
Joy Gammon

Anaya Publishers, 1994

Fun pattern book for knitting stuffed animals
I have knitted the hippo from this book. The pattern was fine, and the hippo came out adorable (but I used a heavier yarn, and it came out huge! But Hippos should be!). There are all sorts of animals and dolls in this book, from a tiny bride, to a baby doll with a layette, to an elephant, snake, and complete Noah's Ark! I had lots of fun reading the patterns, and I'll certainly make more.

Klimt1 review
Fernando Huici

Anaya Publishers, 1994

the sensualist
Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was one of the most unique artists of the 20th century, and in the works from his famous "Gold Period", also one of the most familiar. The text by Fernando Huici (translated from the Italian by Sarah Hilditch) is sometimes a little hard to follow, as he describes the philosophical trends of Klimt's era, a time marked by "a critical and turbulent Viennese landscape", with ...

Victorian Embroidery (The Victorian series)1 review
Freda Parker

Anaya Publishers, 1994

Victorian Embroidery
I found this older book in the local library, and decided to purchase it. There are alot of unique and well instructed projects in the book; including needlepoint, embroidery, bead work and cross stitch, with making up instructions. The theme follows the victorian era embroidery, with alot of interesting history. At first glance the book seemed a little disapointing, but as I got through a ...

Folk Knits2 reviews
Melinda Coss

Anaya Publishers, 1999

Around the World with Melinda
From the minute I opened this book I knew it was a must have for my library. Every design is unique, though not for the faint of heart. Most items are challenging enough for the most advanced knitter while many are still manageable for the intermediately skilled. My first project had to be the sweater featuring the exquisite geisha portrait, which I chose to duplicate stitch for added depth. ...
