Dipiro: Pharmacotherapy
This is actually a great book for pharmacy students and pharmacists alike. It is much more understandable than Goodman and Gilman.

good study aid
I have used this book to aid my studies in therapeutics. While professors gave some cases, the cases in this book helped immensely to get the information down pat.

Easy to read
I got this book for a graduate class that I am taking. This book uses clear language when presenting the material and has many mini "case studies" for examples, which makes it easy to read. Though I am required to read this book, it is not the standard, wall-of-text, that I am use to reading.

Take Step 2 Early and Use This Book
This is the only book you need for to crush Step 2. Packed with great facts. I read this book twice and did the usmleworld question bank and my score was nearly perfect. Take Step 2 early because residency programs are much, much more interested in your score than before. I saw my score circled and starred on several interviewers sheets. My friend is going into surgery and took his exam ...

Physical Examination of the Spine and Extremities

Stanley Hoppenfeld
Appleton & Lange, 1976
Classic, gold standard
There is only one Hoppenfeld. For what it is, it's the best. It's all diagnosis. Not a word on treatment. But it gives a good review of not just the physical exam but also the underlying anatomy and biomechanics. Two other books are worth getting. Magee's Orthopedic Physical Assessment is a good background book to have on your shelf. It's written by a physical therapist, so the perspective ...

Basic & Clinical Pharmacology
While most of my students would not find this excellent work "basic", it is an outstanding adjunct to any healthcare professional's library. The chapters are well structured and the information is up to date. The illustrations have improved over the years and are mated well with the text. In all, this is a worthwhile text for anyone studying pharmacology or a useful resource.

The best all-around book for residents and practitioners.
I used the third edition of this book for my writtens and orals. I am fellowed in cardiothoracic anesthesia, and boarded in pain medicine. It is more than comprehensive enough for everday practice, and it is more than enough to get you through the written boards, and will certainly help with the orals. Miller, Barash (is there an etc to these two choices?) are much more comprehensive, but they ...

good buy
Very helpful with great pictures. This book simplifies the material even for those that have never taken a course in histology. Great investment since many universities as well as medical and dental schools use this book.

Children won't seem a problem with this book
Everyone recommended big fat books of pediatrics, with lots of words and little answers. But this book is all you want and need to know about in your pediatrics rotations. With diagnostic essentials, getting through diseases just gets a lot easier, and with therapeutical answers, it just builds good doctors. I specially liked the chapter on antimicrobials and vaccines, so essential in pediatric ...

needs depth
Pearls of wisdom seems easy to read, I like the questions in bold so your eye is not drawn to the answer right away. However, the content leaves a little to be desired. There are a lot of statistical tidbits, but very little on the actual anesthetic management of key problems as well as the physiology we are expected to know. In short the material does not seem deep enough for the actual ...

Fabulous
I recently took the psychiatry shelf exam (today, actually) and used this book as my primary study material. What a great resource! The book itself is pretty thin at 150 pages, but it still covered all of the topics I saw on my exam. The pharmacology chapter, in particular, was very helpful for the shelf. Psychiatry can be overwhelming, especially with all of the different lists of DSM IV ...
CLINICAL ETHICS: A Practical Approach to Ethical Decisions in Clinical Medicine

McGraw-Hill/Appleton & Lange

This is an excellent resource for those in medical settings.
The authors suggest another method of evaluating ethical dilemmas. They suggest one examine the situation in light of medical indications, patient preferences, quality of life, and contextual features. Because the approach is clinical, rather than theoretical, some of the medical details presented are somewhat technical. This is a book for those working in a medical setting or otherwise ...

Practice CD helped...ALOT
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I trained through the US Army Radiology Specialist program and this review helped me alot. It came highly recommended by all the instructors and they weren't kidding. There is alot of info in each question and it is harder than the actual registry. Each question they ask in the book is like 2 or 3 questions on the actual test so if you take the chapter reviews and read the ...
