Fellow Yahoos, read this book!
Gulliver's Travels is not a children's fantasy written by an avuncular Englishman. This book, instead, is a searing indictment of the human race written by a brilliant satirist and misanthrope. The Lilliput episode is most clearly inscribed in the public consciousness, perhaps because it is the least overtly damning of the human species. By the end of the book, however, when Gulliver is forced to ...

Just Fabulous
This little book gets right to the meat of Irish folklore and the various sorts of fey. Includes the mythological variance between tales from differing counties and tries to reconcile the countless spelling/name variations and the differing significance attached to various elementals. The accounts and tales are both fanciful and straightforward and carry none of that phony, fadish, fluffy ...

Great Little Book.....Great Price!
I own several guidebooks on Ireland. This is the best book I've found so far on B&Bs. It is very comprehensive. I found the recommendations to be more thorough and offer a wider range of room rates than the Frommer guides. I think if you use this book and consult the forums on tripadvisor.com, it's really all you'll need to plan your own self-guided tour of Ireland.(I recommend a Michelin map as ...
Irish Folk Medicine
Patrick Logan
Appletree Press Ltd, 2009
At a time when people are increasingly interested in natural medicine and holistic remedies, this book traces the history of folk medicine in Ireland and examines its continued popularity. It reviews a comprehensive range of country cures, both for people and animals, and looks at how many remedies go back to early pagan times and before the rise of medical science in the 19th century, while others arose in the 20th century as an alternative to ...

All Russian cookbooks are not created equal. This is a real simple and true Russian cookbook. Great for beginners who want to try out Russian dishes without having to read lines and lines of explanation. The recipes are very easy to follow and they are tasty. Little Caribbean Cookbook
My husband is of Jamaican and Barbadian descent and loves to cook Caribbean "Soul" food. I was so excited today to find recipes for Callaloo Soup, Pepperpot, Cou-Cou, Rice and Peas and "Bakes", all of which I've watched him make and look authentic to me. I've been to Jamaica twice and learned to make the Planters Punch exactly the way it's described in the book.

An excellent, concise little history
A Little History of Ireland is a small, charming book which contains a few pages on each major event in Irish history and accompanying illustrations. There are fourteen subsections dealing with specific events, such as "The Flight of the Earls", "The Battle of the Boyne", and "The Easter Rising". The book begins with the arrival of Saint Patrick (believed 423 AD) and ends with the end of ...

The author writes back
I am sorry the reader from Los Altos was disappointed with "Emerald Greens" but I set out to write a book that featured terrific golf courses that are not on the package tour route and that can be played for less than £50 sterling. It was also intended for the non-golfing companions of golfers and for golfers who like to discover something of the country in which they are playing and who take ...

Owned it for years
I bought this book years ago. The Victoria Sponge Cake recipe is easy and delicious. I've made it many times and always to high praise. Since I don't think of myself as a baker, it's very gratifying. While I haven't tried all the recipes in here, the ones I have tried have been good. It is a small book, but it's a gigantic celebration of an old tradition.
