Packed with useful information for budget conscious travelers.
I'm a little confused with previous reviews of Rick Steves' Rome book. Are we reading the same book? Poor content? Really? I'm planning my first trip to Rome and, if anything, this book has been an indispensable planning tool for our big trip. I have been "traveling" with Rick for many years now. I update my "Europe Through the Back Door" books whenever I plan a trip to Europe, and my 3 versions ...

Great for a first trip to Paris
Rick Steves' guides are among the most practical and reliable, and also highly readable. In this guide, Steves focuses on the most important Paris sites, and gives great advice on accommodations and dining. Highly recommended for a first trip to Paris. For a second or later trip, you might want a supplementary guide--one that provides more detail about secondary sites if you aren't going to ...

WONDERFUL AND COMPLETE:
We have used Rick Steve's books for years and after purchasing the London book along with Paris and Prague we found all to be marvelous , but the London book was a steop above with its ideas and support.

With this guide, you can explore lively Dublin, quaint Kilkenny, and the moss-draped ruins of the Ring of Kerry. Navigate meandering back roads that lead to windswept crags on the dramatic Dingle Peninsula. Explore Ireland?s revered past by following St. Patrick?s footsteps to the Rock of Cashel. Marvel at Newgrange, the mysterious mound older ...

Rick Steves' Italy 2010 Review
We have used Rick Steves' travel guides in France, Spain and Central Europe and have found them to be very, very helpful. While it is true that Rick Steves' Italy 2010 doesn't cover the extreme southern part of Italy or Sicily, it covers the areas that we plan to visit, and in that respect, I feel it is fairly comprehensive. Of course, I would always recommend that one traveling to Italy ...

Essential guide!
My husband and I are planning a road trip to Annapolis, MD from CA. to see my niece graduate from Annapolis Naval Academy in 2010. I will fly but am terrified of it, and I have always wanted to "road trip" it. SO, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so. We are excited, well maybe me more then him! and I bought this book to help out with our adventure. It's a great book full of great ...

Excellent "Users Manual" for Europe
This book is chock full of critical information on planning and executing your European trip. Even if you are an experienced traveler, this is a goldmine of information and tips. This is geared toward the type of traveler that likes to design his/her own trip rather than hop on a bus with a guide and a bunch of fellow citizens. Rick's point is that individual travel gets you in closer contact ...

DVD - European Christmas Holiday from the Comfort of Home
Wish you could go to Europe for Christmas? Well, this DVD is the next best thing to an exotic holiday, and there are no crowds at the airport, traffic jams or surly clerks. This DVD is filled with glorious scenery, historical landmarks, beautiful choral music and sights most of us could not arrange no matter how large our travel budget. Thankfully, Rick Steve's manages to cajole families to share ...

Outstanding
My only criticism is that there wasn't more. He spent many hours on Italy, for example, but I could have easily watched three times as much. He did an outstanding, professional job, yet I felt he gave a good, personal touch, talking directly to me and not giving me a lecture.

Don't leave without it!!!
Awesome book- we carried it all over Paris and saw other people carrying it and walking the routes, lol. I did find the Ru Cler walk a bit disappointing- way too crowded and the merchants a little over run. But- we found another great place with the same type shoppes, just a little lower key. I advise finding your own "picnic supplies" places. The book was great for the museums, the prices were ...

detailed and accurate
We carried the Frommers and the Rick Steves, but found the Rick Steves to contain more detailed, personal knowledge, was easy to follow, and his maps were clear and useful. It felt like he was standing beside us, anticipating our questions and concerns, giving us tips, etc. We have always used Frommers or Fodors and have been satisfied with both, but we are now Rick Steve's converts. He also ...

A must have how to book
I bought an early edition in the early 70's and lost it after I sold my VWs. I just bought an old air cooled VW and I remember how useful the earlier book was. This is a revised an updated book that is now more useful than the first. Unless you are a certified mechanic, this is a must have book for the care of an air cooled VW. It will walk you through step by step proceedures without the use ...

Full of Surprises
An intelligent and useful phrase book but full of surprises. You have to read the whole thing--how to handle yourself in a bar (Viva la France!!), how to tell the taxi driver that he is going so fast that you are going to throw up, and on and on. But lots of useful stuff too, including phrases that a standard guidebook wouldn't think to tell you about.

Wonderfully concise and accurate guide to Spain
Highly recommended. I used the Rick Steves guide for a recent trip to Spain and found it invaluable. It is clearly written, entertaining, concise, and up-to-date. When I tried using a second travel guide in Barcelona, although it had more restaurants and hotels listed, I found the information was not as complete or as current. The Rick Steves guide is particularly useful if you have one to three ...

I did not think I liked it until I was in Istanbul
I bought 4 books - (can you tell that it was my first trip abroad). This book was the book that I thought I would like the least. It seems wordy and the pictures are not so good... That was until I was in Istanbul. In the first few days, we traveled with other books. But at the end of day 2 - I sat in the hotel room and began reading this book. Once I had a good idea of the city -this book was ...
