The Run Away
Struggling through the ravages of World War II, Annemarie, her family, and her best friend Ellen wait in hiding until the Nazis retreat and let Denmark free once more. This wonderful story "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry, is about friendship, tragedy, and, love. It also integrates a lot of useful life lessons, such as: being brave and deciding what to do wisely. This story really captured ...

Great read aloud!
I have used Sign of the Beaver as a read aloud just about every year I have taught! I teach 4th grade, and have always had great reviews from my students. The text and vocabulary are advanced for some fourth graders, so it is a terrific way to expand their vocabulary and knowledge without having frustrated readers. I have collected a class set over the years, allowing every child to read along. I ...

A well loved classic that deserves your time and affection...
`Shiloh' was one of my favorite novels as a young boy. I can still remember reading it in school and being fascinated with the concept, with the storyline and underlining morals that forced me to think about things in a way I never had before. The overall plot may seem to be simple enough. A young boy named Marty finds a beagle he names Shiloh (after the place he found him). The dog, as it so ...

A Thought-provoking, Original Story
Lois Lowry's The Giver has just made my top-ten list of favorite books. Although I am a senior in college, this is the first time I have ever delved into the intriguing world of The Giver, and I found it fascinating. The story revolves around a young boy named Jonas. Jonas has grown up in a supposedly perfect society where no one experiences pain or suffering and no one has to make their own ...

Great Buy
I'm usually concerned about purchasing items on line, especially books. I can honestly say that this experience was worth it. I would recommend this seller to anyone interested in purchasing good quality books at extremely reasonable prices. Buy with confidence, I did!
The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963

Marvelous account
An incredible and moving experience on the infamous Birmingham bombing. Despite the historical connection, there is still a strong family vibe going on here through marvelous characters. So much of it is funny and real and all-too-true to families, but there are timeless themes of segregation and racism and all the pain involved with this time period.

Same book I remember
Still a classic. I remembered this book from when I was a child. My daughter (7) is now enjoying it on her own. I would say it's a upper elementary reading level but a great way to learn more.

Our first successful read-aloud
I had tried many different books from Black Beauty to Little Britches to enrich our homeschool literature time. No joy. Of course, to be fair, it's worth mentioning that my children are still all 6 and younger (all five of them!) When we did a thematic unit study on penguins, I came across this book in our local homeschool store, and it was a HIT! They all begged me to read "just one more ...

A proper mystery!
I think you have to be a kid or a kid at heart to properly understand the magic of this book. What kid did not dream of running away? Here is a girl, a very practical girl, who makes that dream come true. She and her younger brother create an elaborate plan to run away and hide in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Remember, this was written before huge advancements in security. As they live an ...

Rich in other ways too!
When I first purchased this book, it was for the simple purpose of trying to educate myself more on the concepts of how the millionaires create their success. While I was not disappointed in any way with the context, what surprised me was that many of the fundamentals written about how to attain prosperity are spiritually based. Robert has done a great job in explaining the "negative reality" ...

Ahhh..... Memories
I originally bought this book when I was a very young girl, almost 15 years ago, from a thrift shop. It was my favorite book. I recently went on a trip down memory lane by taking a look at all my favorite childhood books. This book is just as magical now for me as it was when I was young. It's a great book.

That Was Then This Is Now Bryon is a strong, 16 year old teenager in the book That Was Then This Is Now by S.E. Hinton. Bryon has a very special talent which is hustling people in pool. He has been doing this since he was 12 years old. Bryon lives with his mom in a little town in Oklahoma. His best friend Mark is living with him. There's a reason why Mark is living with him. That reason is ...

A Wonderful Experience.
I first read the Prydain Chronicles when I was 10 years old, and can safely say that in my 45 years, I have never enjoyed a series of books more. To those who haven't read them, I am truly envious--to be able to enjoy and savor these books for the first time would be wonderful. The themes and lessons that Lloyd Alexander incorporated into this book were things that I was not able to ...

Awesome Book
'Superfudge' is the sequel to 'Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing,' another classic children's story. This book would make a great gift for an older child. A funny and wierd book about two brothers. Peter the oldest brother does not get any attention, while his brother, Fudge, is wild and spoiled. Twelve-year-old Peter Hatcher and his family are moving to Princeton for a year. Peter and his ...

A Chocolate Surprise!!
My name is Nick, and I am 10 years old. I read this book and I liked it. I think everyone would like this book, except if you don't like chocolate. My favorite part was when Dr. Cranium said that John had Chocolatitis, where everything you touch turns to chocolate. The book was surprising because when John went to show his dad the brick building where he got the chocolate, the store was gone. ...

Coming-of-Age
I cannot think of this book without deep fondness. If you let it, this is one of those books that can change your life. It's honest and innocent all at once, and Cleary does an incredible job of capturing the mood of a boy going through a confusing time of friends and family. His only outlet is a series of letters to his favorite author. What begins as a school assignment becomes a ...

Pigman Review by Dallin Johnson
As a reader of The Pigman, I thought it was a very good book. I really loved the way that it was narrated. It was humorous at some points when John and Lorraine would switch off chapters. They would always correct the previous writer on something they said about each other. I thought it was clever and it kept my attention for the whole book. The story and characters in The Pigman were ...

Thank God for this book! These techniques are timeless!
I went to assertive training more than 25 years ago, and the early edition of this book was what they used. The techniques are timeless. Thank God I learned these skills before I got married! They have added so much to our relationship (25 years and going strong!). Thank God I learned these skills before I had to deal with insurance companies about my long term illness. These techniques work ...
The Great Brain

A great read but BEWARE.
This book is a wonderful protrait of 19th century rural America, but people should be aware that it was written at a time when there was much more freedom of speech than we have today. Topics in the book include suicide, religious intolerance and fear of immigrants. There is a scene where the boys go skinny dipping and also one story concerns John mating his dog, so this book probably should not ...
