A perfect pitch memoir
Seren's memories, as published by her daughter in THE SEAMSTRESS, are totally engrossing in part because of her voice & in part because of the scope of her journey from between the wars in Transylvania Romania to post-WWII '50s America with a detour in between that killed 19 out of 20 Jewish women & tried even the soul of this fierce & feisty voyager. Born to a Jewish lumber mill manager & his ...

Totally canon
This, and the six Dune books by Frank Herbert are the true books of the Dune universe. Period. Ignore the tripe by Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson. Disregard their works as fanfiction, and badly written at that. If you want to know more about Dune, this is the book for you.

A wonderful story
I found this book lying around the house a few years ago and having nothing else to read, I decided to give it a shot. Wow, was I surprised at how GOOD it was. Ever since then, this book has been at the top of my list of favorites. This is typically not a genre that I would read (I prefer fantasy) but the writing was so real and emotional that I was draw in after giving the story a chance. The ...

The Candy Bombers
I purchased this book on the recommendation from the Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts historian, Stephen. A copy of the book is in their historical museum. Chicopee was involved as a central location for the making, handling and distribution of the thousands of candy parachutes. The book is very well written and easy to follow along. So much history packed into one book, and makes one very ...

Epic Masterpiece
I'll never completely digest the fact that this is her first book! Beautiful prose, characters that spring to life and roam in your mind, surprisingly insightful details of the ancient days, plots refreshingly free of cliche, battle & gladiatorial scenes that take your breath away and bring you to the spot, as if you are watching the whole event close-up, seeing, hearing and feeling each ...

Truly Touching
This is a well written, emotional book. It's a great read for anyone who has lost someone close to them. It will make you laugh, and it will make you cry. It is definitely an honest look into one person's love and loss. You won't be sorry you invested the time to read this one!

Well worth your time
I have read most of the Stephen Ambrose books and Winters autobiography as well as well as 6-8 books about the flyers in WWII and I would put this one up there near the top of the list of excellent, interesting and educational books. Most all of these books are great reading but I think when it comes to capturing the emotional and physical roller coaster these guys experienced and day to day ...

Great book - important subject
My husband and I were at a sailboat show last weekend, and we met the author - Hester Rumberg. We casually discussed her book, and frankly, mostly because it was on the Kindle (which is how we read most of our books), and to support a sailboat show vendor, we bought the book. I'm a huge reader - and very picky. Shame on me, but the truth it, I didn't really expect to be impressed. I thought if ...

How about that, folks?
In the northeast, the winter of 2003-2004 will be remembered as one of the snowiest, iciest, coldest and dreariest in recent memory. A YANKEE CENTURY was the perfect cure for those miserable days. Filled with the baseball history that took place on the sun-drenched field of Yankee Stadium, Harvey Frommer has provided us Yankee [and most baseball] fans with a warm nostalgia and a good feeling for ...

Outstanding, for a start...
I am a consultant, working by myself (president and chief bottle-washer) out of my home in suburban Baltimore. I've heard good things about this book, but was unable to locate a copy until last week. I was finally able to get a (used) copy of Working Alone, and having read it and believed it thoroughly, it has earned an honored spot atop my desk, and will remain there indefinitely. This is a ...

This Really Works
I have used the program detailed in this succint little book for 10 years now, beginning with a trip from Los Angeles to Thailand. After following the program and flying for what seemed like days, I arrived at midnight. The following morning I was fully functional and alert at 10 am and suffered no symptoms. I recently used the program for a trip to London and back with no appreciable jet lag. ...
