Great characters with fascinating world
The characters are incredibly interesting and well developed. The fantasy world is rich with history and details. Having magic be present, but play a very limited role in the world is an unusual take that makes it even more interesting. Plus there is plenty of action and a lot of suspense!

Simply Incredible, Unique, Powerful, MUST READ
Every so often, a book redefines a genre. This is that book. Friedman creates her own world and rules of magic that work so incredibly well. I've read this book three times. The characters are unbelievable, 3-d, logical, real... The plotline is amazing, will keep you turning pages well into the night. The series as a whole 'feels right'. Perfect length, pacing, storyline, ...

The (Complete) Adventures Of Tiger And Del
The Novels of Tiger and Del, Volume I The Novels of Tiger and Del, Volume II: Sword-Maker - Sword Breaker The Novels of Tiger and Del, Volume III (Sword-Dancer Saga) In the beginning of this very enjoyable, unique series, we meet Sandtiger, a man who was raised as a nameless orphan, a foreigner from an unknown land and a slave within a nomadic desert tribe. He gained his name and begrudged ...

Excellent series
This book makes you laugh and at the same time it is action packed and you can really identify with with the Sand Tiger. I would like to see another book by Jennifer Roberson in this series. The Novels of Tiger and Del, Volume III (Sword-Dancer Saga)

Excellent Follow-on
As mentioned by another reviewer, this is a more complex, deeper book than Green Rider. This is not to denigrate Green Rider in any way; in fact, this is how I like my favorite series to preogress - the characters are at first somewhat innocent, and, since so much is new to them (as it is to me as a reader), they take in only what they need to suvive and succeed in what they are trying to do. ...

As legends and fairy tales come to life the true battle for Osten Ard has begun...
I'll admit to being a little befuddled and pissed that the last volume in this series got split in two-not only because it makes no sense (why didn't they just make it four books long with four titles) and it costs more to buy it all but I really like really long books. Once I started reading this little hissy fit passed though. "To Green Angle Tower: Part One" details the beginning of the ...

All I got is...Kvothe, you are my god.
This is the big one. No, really. You know that fantasy you've been waiting for? The new series containing a character you'll actually care about, themes that uplift the spirit, and on top of all that a plot that's actually damn good? That's what Rothfuss has done. The Name of the Wind is stunning fantasy, full of gorgeous prose and relatable characters and situations. Kvothe is probably ...

And now we really get moving...
As the second novel in Tad Williams four part trilogy, "memory, Sorrow and Thorn" "The Stone of Farewell" suffers from very few of the defects that made the first book, "The Dragonbone Chair" kind of hard to like-at least in it's first forth or so. From page one this book is all action. Josua Lackhand, the high king's brother, stronghold has been broken by his brothers new and very deadly and ...

Downbelow is a cut above
The future arrives and Earth is left behind. Those who adapt to the changes that the discovery of new worlds brings survive and prosper. Cherryh's universe is dark, damp and dangerous. A good read for futurists.

The most complete fantasy series I've read outside of Tolkien
In a way Tad Williams story redefines fantasy in the context of his era similar to the what Tolkien did in his time with his Middle Earth saga. But let me stop the comparisons there because it is unfair to Williams to compare his work to Tolkien and vice versa because the brilliance of this series has earned it the right to be judged by its own merits, just like Tolkien's was. `Complete', is ...

Unsung classic by a modern master
My wife and I bought a paperback copy of The Gameplayers of Zan when we were thumbing through an old used book store. We often do this--pick up something that looks like a great old pulpy novel and give it a chance. I had no idea that I was picking up a massively creative, intensely realized work of science fiction literature when we did. Foster is not a name that I knew, and I am pretty ...

Excellent series
In most trilogies, the second book is the weakest of the three. This is one of the exceptions. Like the first book, it gets off to a rather slow start, but is probably an even better read once things get going. Religious themes are even more rampant here; as with Black Sun Rising, if you don't like books that make you think, look elsewhere. There's not really a whole lot I can say. If you've ...

gotta love Tiger
I bought all three of the 'Novels of Tiger and Del' at the same time. Tiger is a wonderful narrator, even in the second book which is not my favorite. Easily one of the most enjoyable series I've read in the last few years. The writing is intelligent and the characters enjoyable.

Deep into shadow we go, hoping to find the light...
I have to say, with each page I read of his books I like Tad Williams better and better. I really enjoyed the first novel in his shadow series, "Shadowmarch", but this book, "Shadowplay" (with its excellent cover, which is so much better looking in person) really outdid itself. "Shadowmarch" ended with the March kingdoms in chaos. King Olin is still a prisoner far to the south, all members of ...

Amazing Trilogy.. Classic status in my library
This is such an unusual trilogy that deviates from the norm. A vampire tale steeped in magic. A vampire is paired with a Church knight on a quest. Each with their own agenda and reasons. The book has its dark and scary moments you long for, yet has the "Good will prevail" sentiment. It been a little while since I read the trilogy. I pull it off the shelf every couple of years. This is ...

Become A Sunrunner
This is one great book. It sparks an urge in you to become a great sunnrunner. This book is greatly written and is a great conclusion to the Dragon Prince series. It also features the maturation of the great Lord Andry.
