A bombad mini-biography of Darth Vader
The release of Star Wars books for young people has always been related to a theatrical promotion. In a world that has a seen all six films, a new wave of DK Readers is much appreciated. It gives us comfort that even though the movies are finished, the Star Wars experience isn't completely 'done.' As the title suggests, "The Story of Darth Vader" is a biography of Darth Vader. The first half of ...

A Minor Correction to James Dees's Review
I wanted to let potential readers know that Dawson's book DOES include the Taut-line Hitch, though you might have to know a bit about knots going in to realize it. The Taut-line Hitch is simply the Rolling Hitch (page 82 in Dawson), with the rope turned back and tied around its own standing end rather than around a pole as Dawson shows it. Dawson probably could have made that clearer, but it is ...

Eyewitness Travel Guides Does It Again
Eyewitness Travel Guides once again lives up to its motto: "The guides that show you what others only tell you." While other guides are long on talk about St. Petersburg, this guide adds hundreds of photos, detailed illustrations, diagrams, maps, and time-lines to bring the city and its surrounding areas to life. Paging through it is like vacationing in St. Petersburg without the cost of going ...

The best bonsai book out there!
When I received a bonsai tree for mother's day, I was determined not to kill it like I had done with a previous bonsai. After researching 7 or 8 books at the library, and several more at local book stores, this one stood out as positively the best one out there. It offers full-color pictures of over 100 different species plus growing, watering, pruning, propagation, and other tips for each kind ...

A favorite of mine
This little book is now a favorite of mine. The information is extremely useful and the tips/recipes are easy to implement (I have not tried any of the baby tips since I don't have a baby). The vinegar for the toilet bowl works so well and so does the baking soda paste for the stove top and fridge! Cleaning solutions in my house are now all 'green'. Plus, the book layout and colors are visually ...

Beautifully Presented!
This book is gorgeous in it's lay out and presentation. The articles are arranged in a magazine style format with a very imaginative what?,where?.when?, tag at the top of each article. I must say that some of these articles were written by some of the best Beatles writers and authorities in the world like,Hunter Davies,Barry Miles, Mark Lewisohn, and Ian Macdonald, to name but a few. However, ...

Excellent all round guide
I must say I am pretty impressed by this travel guide to Sydney. And I can doubly assure you of that it is excellent because I live here in Sydney! The reason I got this book was because in my experience the best travel guides are generally the ones from DK and this one didn't dissappoint. A travel guide like this is great for people who come to Sydney and stay with me. I can lend them this book ...

Beautiful pics
I like the Eyewitness Travel Guides mainly because, when planning a trip, I get more excited about it just looking at the pictures I will be seeing in person. These guides have beautiful photography. There was great information in the Hawaii Guide, although I was surprised to find no mention of Nawiliwili, Kauai, where our cruise ship docked. I know others who have stayed there as well, but ...

Great for kids of all ages!
My kids have all loved this book from the age of 16 months. Most toddlers love to find the "banana" (or many other items on each page) when asked to find the banana. Every year they will find some new picture that they never noticed before. My five-year old is into "pirate", while my 18-month old loves the "hundred" stars. There is so much to look at on every page! I will give this book as a ...
