Brings Back Memories
I am a long time Cardinals fan and this book brought back many memories of the games I used to listen to broadcast by Harry Caray and Jack Buck back in the 60's. It was full of information about interesting games, obscure statistics, and I found the details of how baseball was played in the old days very entertaining as well. For example, train schedules dictated that some games had to end ...

THE GREATEST RUNNING BACK IN THE HISTORY OF THE GAME WE CALL "FOOTBALL"
I was so glad to see this book and DVD come out. The story of Barry Sanders the NFL's legendary running back who played for the Detroit Lions for his entire NFL career. Barry Sanders didn't break the biggest records but, his name is mentioned as a runner up for all of them. This was mainly because Barry didn't play the game to break records. He played the game to the best of his abilities..... ...

Laughter is HEALING
I have been laughing and joking my whole life, because if you don't laugh you just might cry. I think it is like that with most funny people. As it was a life-long dream of mine, I finally took the plunge and bought Sandi's book and enrolled in her class on how to be a stand-up comedian. That was eight weeks ago and I got more from Sandi's book than I did in TEN YEARS OF THERAPY!!! I lost 25 ...

Joe Burnworth

Excellent read
As a diving aficionado, I remember hearing about the Wavedancer tragedy when it occurred, but never knew the background and details surrounding the event. I stumbled upon this book by accident, bought it on a whim (and based on Theresa Mars's review) and am glad I did. Joe Burnworth has created a vivid and interesting account of an event that robbed us of so many good people, but the story is ...

The Other Side of the Black Sox Scandal
While numerous books exist regarding the Black Sox Scandal of 1919, this book takes a unique perspective. Written by the granddaughter of Reds star Edd Roush, the book explores the scandal from the Reds point of view. A quick paced read, fans of the topic are likely to enjoy the book regardless of which side of the divisive arguments they fall. While this book tells much the same story as ...

William Allen
Emmis Books, 2004
actually, reviewing the orignial pressing...
An easy read, a bit dated now many years after the first edition, but still a nice history of that week in January and subsequent events. Allen tells a nice story without glorification of starkweather, and plenty of first hand observations noted. It is the definitive look into this case.

A great book for simple immigration cases
There are many persons who believe immigration attorneys are necessary in every case - untrue. For the most part, a healthy dose of self-help is prudent and cost-effective. This book describes common scenarios and basic legal cases in what can only be described as "story book" form - clear, concise and direct. I have read all the self help manuals and this one deserves your review. If you ...

Lewis Grossberger
Emmis Books, 2005
A Monumental Study of Rock & Roll! It's Glacial!
Grossberger is a force of nature. His comedic gift blurs the lines between fact and fiction, music and mischief. He invents a history of music from the 50s to the present day, leveling the playing field. It's zany, zooey, unglued, and hyperbolic, just like the musicians themselves. It's a book for Elvis fans, Beatlemanias, Little Richardarians, Motownians, Madonna maniacs, Bowie wowies--in other ...

All The Literature You'll Ever Need
This is wonderful stuff by a true comic polymath. Just read "Likable Wilma" by William Blake, which begins, "Wilma, Wilma, in thy blouse, Red-haired prehistoric spouse" , and you'll know what I mean. I have a conflict of interest here (I drew the pictures) but I laughed hard at Francis Heaney's work before I got tangled up with it, when I first saw it in Mirth of a Nation. Buy The Holy Tango ...

Which one of two similar books should you buy?
Two books with similar titles came out within weeks of each other. Which one should you buy? The books are: DAY BY DAY WITH THE BOSTON RED SOX by Bill Nowlin RED SOX JOURNAL by John Synder. Snyder's book is subtitled "Year by Year & Day by Day with the Boston Red Sox Since 1901." Nowlin's book looks like the better one to me, but anyone who can afford both should buy both as they ...

An Innovative Addition to the Horror Genre
When any given publisher releases a book with a theme in which it specializes, such a work does not necessarily warrant attention; chaff gets pretty thoroughly mixed with palatable morsels in many cases, and this is as true with horror -- more true, perhaps -- than with many other genres. But when a reputable regional publisher releases a bona fide horror title, it makes a conscientious fan ...
