An indispensable reference
This a must-purchase for the starting animator. I read The Illusion of Life first, which was a lot of words and theory but fewer walk-throughs (though you should buy that, too!). Get it, you won't be disappointed.

See it for what it is . . .
Just a note that this particular book is a work of background and criticism ABOUT "Lord of the Flies" and not the novel itself, which has over 1,200 amateur reviews on Amazon.

The essence of genius in combination with madness
This play captures the essence of mathematicians and some of the ways they do mathematics. Catherine is the daughter of her mathematician father Robert, who was brilliant and revolutionary in his early twenties, but has descended into madness. For the last few years Catherine has suppressed her desire to study mathematics at Northwestern University in order to care for her father. Robert has just ...
Moviemakers' Master Class: Private Lessons from the World's Foremost Directors

Master class for sure!!!
This is exactly what a moviemakers master class should be. It asks technical and artistic questions to some of the greatest directors of all time. If you want to hear why Tim Burton likes wide lenses, which contemporary directors Scorsese admires and why, Jean Pierre Jeunet's theory of camera movement, David Lynch's "secret dolly move", John Woo's method of shooting and cutting scenes to ...

I am Septimus Hodge!
If you pride yourself on knowing great literature, especially within the realm of theatre, this play is excellent. Humorous and incredibly smart. Don't let the whole thermodynamics thing freak you out. You don't have to be a scholar to read this play, just a person with interesting taste.

Just as relevant today as a century ago!
Spring awakening explores the sexual awakening of teenage boys and girls in Germany in the late 1800's. It was shocking in its day, and still is somewhat today, despite the openness of our society. The Frank Wedekind play has been updated, set to music, and will open as a major Broadway Musical in Spring, 2003. Watch for it, you will be blown away! And be sure to read the play first. You'll be ...

Very Well-Rounded
This is a very deep book to read, but when you work with it- do the exercises, the results are pretty amazing. A very well-rounded book.

Great, insightful book on a living legend
This is a great book written by Chris Rodley that is basically a series of interviews with living legend David Lynch. If you're not into Lynch or his movies at all, I doubt you'll find anything insightful in here but if you appreciate the man at all, this is definitely a must read. It covers a lot of ground on his upbringing, film and art projects. What makes this book such a good read is that ...

Wit analysis
I read this book for a nursing class I am taking. It's a wonderful depiction of hospitalization, giving accurate portrayals of doctors, nurses and patients, which is surprising being written by a lay person. It was an easy read, about 45 minutes. I would recommend this book.

Terrific Story
This is a great story to read for anyone who had teachers that challenged them to think differently. It makes the reader think about the role education should play.

HEART WARMING AND TOTALLY ESSENTIAL
This amazing book is a must read for anyone who enjoy's The great man's films, as well as anyone who...you know what, I'm moved to say that this book is essential reading for all humans. Herzog inspires on each page, whether it be by his own personal experience or by the bombastic words that he barks onto the page. I actually read this book for the first time (I've been through it 5 or 6 ...
The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat

A thankful reader
I had bought two of Juliette's herbal books for cats and dogs when I read another book by a different author who had recommended Juliette's books specifically. One of our cats had developed a strange problem where his fur ceased to grow in a large area on his left flank. The spot started out small but gradually grew large and larger until a spot several inches in diameter was mostly fur-less on ...

FANTASTIC BOOK
I grew up less than 5 miles from that area during this time and never realized what was going on there. I remember driving through Laurel Canyon to go out to the San Fernando Valley to visit my cousins and to find out about these singers living in that area was amazing to me. The book is so good that my employees at work are reading it. There is a list of people of who gets it next. I have ...

Tom Stoppard: Plays 5 : Arcadia, The Real Thing, Night & Day, Indian Ink, Hapgood

Tom Stoppard

, 2000
A Fantastic Collection
This is a great collection of Tom Stoppard plays, and includes some of his best works. Arcadia is one of Stoppard's greatest plays - a bizarre combination of physics, mathematics, poetry, a good old-fashioned academic stoush and romance (or lust) to boot. A fantastic play to see, but very good to read also. The Real Thing, Hapgood and Indian Ink are also among Stoppard's more mature and better ...
Hotter Than That: The Trumpet, Jazz, and American Culture
Krin Gabbard
Faber & Faber
, 2008
A swinging cultural history of the instrument that in many ways defined a century The twentieth century was barely under way when the grandson of a slave picked up a trumpet and transformed American culture. Before that moment, the trumpet had been a regimental staple in marching bands, a ceremonial accessory for royalty, and an occasional diva at the symphony. Because it could make more noise than just about anything, the trumpet had been ...

A pickle in the brine
Absolutely fantastic is really all I can say about this. Each line is more clever than the next and the music is absolutely genius. Each song is unique and each lyric has value. The show has a great message and is hilarious. I've read the script and listened to the music at least 50 times and I still laugh out loud every time. I can't even pick my favorite song or scene or say anything bad about ...

A Book to be Savoured
This is a book that should be savoured for a number of reasons. The first is that P.D. James has lost none of her talent for writing a novel that grips and holds you. Also, the book is more than just a little mystery story. There is a whole lot more here than that. It's a book that held me in its thrall right until the end. Of course we have Adam Dalgliesh, and we have his team (Kate and ...
