Digital Drawing for Designers: A Visual Guide to AutoCAD6 reviews
Douglas R. Seidler

Fairchild Pubns, 2007

Excellent Getting Started Book
AutoCAD is clearly the industry standard computer aided design software. If you type AutoCad into the search engine at Amazon you get 4,306 books about it. How do you possibly pick one out of this many. Or perhaps a better question is why pick this one. First, this book is specifically oriented to architects and interior designers. That's what the examples show, that's the terminology used. ...

The New Munsell Student Color Set7 reviews
Jim Long, Joy Turner Luke

Fairchild Pubns, 2001

Great book
I got the first edition for a great price. it is not very different from the 2nd edition. The colour charts are exactly the same as in the second edition. There is one chart for hue, value and chroma and 10 charts for each colour. The text contents are quite technical. There aren't many pretty pictures. 3 ring binder has colour chips, colour charts and the text.

Portfolio Presentation for Fashion Designers9 reviews
Linda Tain

Fairchild Pubns, 2003

~Did What I Needed It To Do~
I purchased this book to help me with my portfolio layout for acceptance to the Fashion Institute of Technology. Although I needed to follow FITs guidelines, I feel that I gained a lot of great knowledge and excellent ideas and inspiration by referencing this book before submitting my portfolio to FIT. I am proud to say that I was accepted and will now be referencing the book to put together my ...

Fairchild's Dictionary of Textiles4 reviews

Fairchild Pubns, 1996

Excellent information source
This book is great. I don't think I've ever gone to it and not found the word I was looking for. I wish it had a bit more pictures of some of the fabrics and such. But still, it is very good and there isn't one week that goes by that I don't reference it for one reason or another. I especially like that it offers origins of some textile words which is always interesting and helpful to know.

An excellent resource book
A comprehensive, user-friendly guide to the skills and techniques for measuring garments and creating spec sheets. It's an excellent resource book which provides the fundamentals for building, developing, streamlining your flats and specs library. It's a neat and concise reference book you would find so useful that would like to own and keep at hand at all times. Furthermore, the enclosed CD-ROM ...

Fashion Sketchbook15 reviews
Bina Abling

Fairchild Pubns, 2007

the ONLY book you will ever need as a designer, this is the Bible of fashion illustration
This is The authority on illustrating for fashion. Abling's attention to detail and artistic ability make her a perfect tutor on the topic, and every explanation is clear--it's the sort of thing where you look at the example, and it clicks in your head, "Oh, Now I see!". The book goes over Everything you need, but in case you want to know exactly what is inside, here is a quick summary: Ch ...

Michele Granger, Tina Sterling

Fashion Entrepreneurship
If you are entering the world of retail fashion or the fashion industry this book is an absolute necessity. Apparel Industry Sourcebook2 reviews
Fashiondex Incorporation Staff

Fairchild Pubns, 1999

Great book. Very helpful and very informative
When I first received the Apparel Industry Sourcebook for Contractors, I was surprised to see how much smaller it was than the first WWD Directory I bought in 1994. The loss of American manufactures and contractors is evident by the comparative sizes of these two sourcebooks. Sad. The contractors who are in business are all listed in this great sourcebook and there are still many to choose ...

Beyond Design: The Synergy of Apparel Product Development2 reviews
Sandra J. Keiser, Myrna B. h. Garner

Fairchild Pubns, 2008

Continuing the fashion/retail knowledge
Initially, I purchased this text book because one of the authors, Dr. Myrna Garner, was a professor of mine at Illinios State University. However, upon delving into the book, I realized how exciting and informative the book is for someone who has since graduated college, and is living in the "real world" of retail. Dr Garner is still teaching via this informative text book - and it's still just ...

Color Studies1 review
Edith Anderson Feisner

Fairchild Pubns, 2006

Outstanding book on Color for all Kinds of Artists
There are lots of books about color, but few include information directly pertinent to stitchers as well as to painters. Needlepointers will be familiar with Feisner as the author of Needlepoint and Beyond, an incredibly creative book from the late 70's. She is also the founder of the EGA Master Craftsman in Color program. The book is divided into four parts: Color Foundations, Dimensions ...

By Design: Why There Are No Locks on the Bathroom Doors in the Hotel Louis XIV and Other Object Lessons2 reviews
Ralph Caplan

Fairchild Pubns, 2005

A Great Book For Anyone in the Product Business
This outstanding book is said to be aimed at design students, professionals, or anyone else who could benefit from af uller appreciation of the design process. And yes, I have to agree, it is. More important to me however is the presentation in this book of the essence of what design is all about. This is the kind of book that the financial people behind a new big hotel should read. It is the ...

Fairchilds Designer Stylist Handbook1 review
Debbie Gioello

Fairchild Pubns, 1980

Helpful text for design details
These books are inspiring, and help to ideate garments basedon the details shown inside. Debbie Gioello has really outdone herself with these books, chock full of images (some thumbnails, some a bit larger) showing everything from collar variations, to pocket detailing and different cowl drapes as applied to various parts of the garment. If you get stumped sometimes, or even are like me and ...
