A difficult task made easier!
I am so thankful that I chose this book over others that deal with toilet training. I did not realize how teaching someone on the spectrum how to use the potty is very different in many ways, than someone who's not. This book deals with those issues. It brings to light some very important routines and activities to follow. Especially for someone who is new to the world of Autism, this is a ...

Important ideas for students and parents affected by Asperger's
While I think some of the students who could benefit from this book might find it a bit patronizing and beneath their level of maturity and intelligence (since it depends on pictures so much), there are some really valuable insights to be found for just about everyone with any degree of Asperger's Syndrome. The only improvement I would suggest is that more details on body language reading and ...

Must Read for All Who Know a Child with Autism
Ellen Notbohm's second book about autism, TEN THINGS YOUR STUDENT WITH AUTISM WISHES YOU KNEW, is every bit as informative and encouraging as her first. She gets to the point, writes from personal experience, provides practical insight, and she cares. Her first book, TEN THINGS YOUR CHILD WITH AUTISM WISHES YOU KNEW, addressed matters pertaining to the very young. This book continues with the ...

Thanks for the book!
What I liked about Dr. Baker's book is how sympathetic he sounds to those of us who deal daily with children with emotional and cognitive disorders or just plain difficulties. At the same time, he doesn't let us off the hook nor lull us into thinking that our responses to explosive situations, however understandable and legitimate, may not be the right ones. He clearly has the hands-on ...

TERRIFIC Book!
Great book but I am upset with Amazon.com. Please remember that when you are just simply "Browsing" a product and try to merely put in your cart or saved box they will charge you. Another problem with this particular book is that it was supposed to come as a set with the comic strip conversation book (also a very terrific book) - so I clicked on that after I saw the duo combo for cheaper = Amazon ...

A Must read for those dealing with autism!
This book reads easy and fast and it should be handed out to every parent whose child is diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. It can change the perceptions of anyone--family, friend, educator or counselor--who is face with the baffling behavior of an autistic child. I cannot impress just how much this slim volume can help. The core beliefs in 10 Things Every Child With Autism Wishes You Knew are: ...

Easy to use and understand resource
When my sons ages 6 and 5 were diagnosed with sensory integration disorder I had no idea what in the world that was, or what it meant for my boys. Enter this handy book that answered so many of my questions. The lists and tips given are easy to understand-written for "real people" not those with doctorates in educational theory :)I have gone to this book again and again since purchasing it. If ...

A detailed and excellent guide
This book contains valuable documentation of individuals with Asperger's or HFA, problems that arise and how many of the situations can be resolved. There are some great ideas on making worksheets and charts for the individual to track his/her own emotions. A Well-Organized Collection of Grandin's Articles, Practical Advice for Parents and Teachers
This book is a collection of articles that were previously published in Autism journals. The articles have been edited, updated and neatly arranged by topic. The articles are 2-4 pages long and numerous articles make up each chapter. Due to this arrangement it is not necessary to read the book in its entirety or in order from start to finish. The reader can jump around from topic to topic if they ...

Good for girls
Many books written about disability are often taken from or about boys experiences, and girls have not yet got on the radar in many areas. I speak from experience as I have a daughter with AS. She is now 22 y.o and I have just discovered this. Not through lack of searching for information, (and misdirection from 'professionals) but by discovering literature written by Tony Attwood et al. ...

Great resource!
I bought several books/cookbooks re: going GF/CF and this is the one I find myself using the most. I especially like the author's comments/suggestions on how to make the recipes easier or get better results. My son is in the process of being diagnosed with ASD and in the two weeks we have been GFCF we are seeing exciting results. I also want to add that I made the Pearsauce bread recipe using ...

What does it mean to me?
This book is good for children who are very verbal and can understand the content. I bought this book for me to do with my 9 year old daughter and she is doing very well with it. I do a little bit at a time and go over previously completed parts to refresh her memory before moving on. I would definitely recommend this to any parent who is trying to teach their child about their disorder.

Great Life Skills Training
This is a great motivational book for someone on the verge of entering into adulthood. Dr. Baker pinpoints specific skills needed for a variety of "life situations" by catagorizing them and dealing with them individually. It starts out with mapping out assets and challenges. There are activity pages to use when anger is an issue and suggestions on calming ones self. The book includes a 16 page ...

Great Strategy
This is a wonderful book that clearly explains what comic strip conversations are, how to write them, and why they are useful. Although the book is short, the concepts held within are a treasure for helping children learn social communication skills in a fun and non-aversive format. I have used this book to teach parents, aides, and 1:1's how to communicate desired behavior and to help the ...
