How Full Is Your Bucket? For Kids17 reviews
Tom Rath, Mary Reckmeyer

Gallup Press, 2009

Delightfully effective for kids.
I read this to my granddaughters and a couple of their friends. They have used the concept many times, and parents are thrilled. It is heart-warming to see a four year old give flowers to the other grandmother, so that it will "help fill her bucket!" So sweet. This is an excellent way to redirect beginning arguments, and prepare for back to school contacts! Love It!!

Vital Friends: The People You Can't Afford to Live Without25 reviews
Tom Rath

Gallup Press, 2006

Friends--- More Than Just a "Good Idea"
I've heard of good friends, close friends, old friends, casual friends, best friends, even "just" friends, but I had never heard the word "vital" to describe friends until this book. And that is exactly what Tom Rath proceeds to explain, that having friends, real, meaningful engaged relationships, is absolutely vital to our health, our well-being, and our personal and professional success. Not ...

12: The Elements of Great Managing26 reviews
Rodd Wagner, Ph.D. James K. Harter

All great managers are expert cardiologists
Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman's First, Break All the Rules, was published in 1999. In it, they discuss twelve crucial statements (Q12®) to which millions of workers had responded in surveys conducted by The Gallup Organization during the previous 25 years. Then in 2006, Rodd Wagner and James K. Harter's 12: The Elements of Great Managing was published. (Both are Gallup principals.) As they ...

StrengthsExplorer For Ages 10 to 14: From Gallup, the Creators of StrengthsFinder7 reviews

Gallup Press, 2007

Excellent resource for parents and small group leaders
As a parent of a teen boy, it was a wonderful resource to understand how he works and especially, how different his strengths are from mine. By naming his strengths, we could better use them to his advantage and frankly, ours too. We could appeal to his strengths in meeting homework deadlines, chores, etc. Also, as a small group confirmation leader, I found the exercises to be useful for the ...

Who Speaks For Islam?: What a Billion Muslims Really Think27 reviews
John L. Esposito, Dalia Mogahed

Gallup Press, 2008

The moderate majority speaks
Here readers have finally been given the unglamorous truth, and that is that the US and the West are not engaged in a life and death war of civilization with the East. Instead we are faced with a people that we don't understand, and instead of our media and political leaders providing us with accurate descriptions of the Muslim people we are provided caricatures. These caricatures ...

Strengths Finder 2.0: A New and Upgraded Edition of the Online Test from Gallup's Now, Discover Your ...3 reviews
Tom(Author) Rath

Gallup Press, 2007

Identifying Talents, Not "Becoming Anything You Want to Be"
We have all heard the adage that, if you work hard enough, you can become anything you want to be. Rath challenges this. We all have different strengths, and very seldom is someone very successful in something that is not his/her strength. Don't follow the path of greatest resistance! Rath criticizes the widespread societal practice on dwelling on failure instead of success. For instance, ...

Mainline Christian churches have been in decline for nearly 40 years, and increasingly are labeled as lifeless and outmoded. Building Engaged Schools: Getting the Most Out of America's Classrooms4 reviews
Gary Gordon

Gallup Press, 2006

Data-based, Thoughtful, and Compelling
Gallup's work in the area of strengths is well known and widely used in both the world of business and in many colleges. See, e.g., Now, Discover Your Strengths. This book makes a compelling case for reconciling the competing agendas of No Child Left Behind and the school, student, and teacher-centered approaches by rallying around engagement, for both students and teachers. As usual with ...

The Best of the Gallup Management Journal 2001-20073 reviews

Gallup Press, 2007

Research-driven insights from a variety of perspectives
Credit Geoffrey Brewer and Barb Sanford with a superb judgment when selecting articles that first appeared in the Gallup Management Journal from 2001 until 2007. As they explain in the Introduction, "In its essence, the GMJ's purpose is to give leaders actionable insights into managing the human side of their businesses - their employees and customers. It continues to be our hope that those ...

Human Sigma: Managing the Employee-Customer Encounter15 reviews
John H. Fleming, Jim Asplund

Gallup Press, 2007

Soon to be the handbook for transformational organizational change
Human Sigma is extremely well researched (no surprise there, coming from Gallup), very well written, and absolutely revolutionary in content. While it is amazing that some of these realizations have not been made or acted upon in business over the past 50 years because of their obvious nature, it is so valuable to have both the observations and the responses defined in the same place. The ...
