Simple and Striking
A child recounts the life of a maple tree selected from a nursery to grow in the family's yard. Although it's narrated by a person, the natural world or plants and animals are the primary focus. Hands involved in the various stages of planting are the only human elements included in the illustrations. Taking the tree from a tiny seed in a maple key, to a young seedling, to a leafy haven for ...

And here, from two of the most gifted picture-book creators of our time, is a celebration of baby fingers, baby toes, and the joy they—and the babies they belong to—bring to everyone, everywhere, all over the world! Great for train lovers!
My 3 year old son LOVES trains so we were excited to find a new train book for our bedtime routine. It's a fun story with silly pictures. The train passes through many interesting places on it's way to bedtime. My son enjoys pointing out all the oddities in the illustrations--mostly to draw out the story!

My favorite children's book
Note: My reviews are plagued by cyber stalkers who distort votes totals. If I HAD to answer the question: What is your favorite children's book?, I would have to pick "Stellaluna." There, this children's librarian committed, but I think my students would know that. It's one of their favorites, too!! What makes this book so special? E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!! The story line, the embedded lessons, ...

Simple text enhanced with a big dose of creativity!
My husband bought this for our two-year old, and we love reading it together with her. The text is simple, as it traces the journey of Leaf Man...the leaves used are magnificent in their colors...some bold, some subdued, but all unique and beautiful. I have since done some basic art projects with my daughter using this book as inspiration. We collect leaves wherever we go and hope to create a ...

Well Done!
The recordings of Jim Copp & Ed Brown originally released on Playhouse Records (PlayhouseRecords.com) really belong on the short shelf of American children's classics. The illustrations here by Lindsay duPont have been lovingly updated in this very classy book/CD package. I can't recommend this highly enough. I loved these "tales" when I was a child and I love them now.

Let them read Frankenstein
I like cake. I like Frankenstein. Ipso facto: I like Frankenstein Takes the Cake. Oh fine. Maybe it's a little more complicated than that. Maybe I like other things about the book too. Perhaps the art. Maybe the characters. And there's always the off chance that what I really like about is that it's a picture book/poetry sequel that takes cool monsters and makes them loveable. Rex's first ...

A Time Tested Classic
If I was stranded on a desert island and could only take one book with me, it would be this one. It does not matter how many times I read this book over the years, every time I pick it up, it is as if I was reading it for the first time. I realize something new and profound with every reading. This little book is so compact with depth of meaning and wisdom, it is truly as timeless as wisdom ...

Makes my 3-year-old laugh every time!
I'll never forget the first time I read this book to my 3-year-old daughter - she started laughing about halfway through the book, and by the end we were both giggling up a storm. We've read this book every night before bed ever since. Needless to say, this is currently her favorite book. The text is simple, consise and short, which is nice for the parent who may be reading this book at the ...

Clever and funny
Very clever book of poems. My two daughters (6 and 9) giggled at the funny vocabulary. The illustrations are are cool and inventive. Every movie monster must be in there somewhere. We liked the son of Dracula drawn as Charlie Brown. Adults will like this one too.

Bathtubs and Bubble Time, by Heather DeFord
"Help, help cried the Page" is the captivating beginning of Audrey and Don Wood's picture book King Bidgood's in the Bathtub. The good old King has climbed into the tub and now refuses to get out. This story is a wonderful experience for children of all ages, especially the ones disguised as adults. A Great Book
The fictional book, A Crooked Kind of Perfect by Lisa Urban is a wonderful and inspiring book that shows the importance of following a dream. In this book a young girl has a tough time, has much perserverence, and is very brave. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because when i read this book, I felt like i was a character in the book. I recommend this book for girls ages 9-15 because I think they ...

Wonderful tale, wonderful lessons
I like to read what my children are reading because it gives us common ground for conversation and I like to know what's on their minds. Sometimes this can be tedious, i.e. reading fiction written for primary school kids. The Marigold series is not a tedious task for me. I thoroughly enjoy the engaging, witty writing, and the subtle lessons that resonate from the narratives are good seeds to ...
