Read it BEFORE you go to the hospital
Lots of great info I could have used in the beginning. Still good to have now, I thought it was more a reference book when I bought it and didn't read it until later. I could have really used a lot of the information going in and in that first week. It's easy to read, and offers a lot of tips on childcare aside from just breastfeeding.

New to Vegan/Vegetarian??
Ok first of all- I am a vegetarian/ aspiring vegan that doesn't have the time to write reviews. But for anyone who is willing and open minded enough to go vegan- this book is one you will reference for years to come. I am the kind of cook who opens three cookbooks and pick what I like from the recipes and create my own concoctions- and this is the basis of all my thoughts. I live in Germany- ...

A Mental Lifesaver
For first-time parents, giving birth to your little bundle of joy can be nerve-wracking. There is so much you don't know! And not-knowing can be a nasty breeding ground for fear. My wife and I are first-time parents, and while we weren't scared to death, we certainly wanted to know what we were headed towards. Knowing is half the battle, right? Because of how much there is to know, we even ...

Good Recipes and Tips
I bought this cookbook after checking it out briefly from the library mostly because it had a lot of recipes, none of which involved using cream of whatever soup, whole bottles of salad dressing, or onion soup mix. I was looking for healthy recipes that I could make in my slow cooker and I was having trouble finding good recipes that use what I consider 'real' ingredients. I have tried several ...

Love it!!!
My experiences with my bread machine (West Bend) were very poor. Could not make a good loaf of bread. Then came this book!!! Outstanding. So far, I have made three recipes from it (just got it recently) and all 3 were excellent. I made the basic Pizza dough on page 390. Excellent. My family said it was the best pizza I had ever made. I also made the Cinnamom Swirl Bread on Page 432 and it ...

EXACTLY what I was looking for!
I bought the Zojirushi 10-cup induction rice cooker and love the rice it makes, but I was wondering if there was more I could do with it. Could I use it to cook other whole grains? What is the porridge cycle on it? Could I cook rice meals with other ingredients in the cooker (vegetables, meat)? For me and what I was wanting to know, this book FAR EXCEEDED my hopes and expectations! I learned ...

The most exhaustive treatment of pickles you can buy...
If "Making Sauerkraut and Pickled Vegetables at Home" is an introductory guide, think of "The Joy of Pickling" as the definitive handbook of pickles and pickling. The book starts out with a 30 page primer on the art and science of pickling. All of the mysteries of pickling methods are revealed here. This chapter alone is worth the price of the book, but there is so much more. The next ...

veggie slow cookery
When visiting my son and family in Massachusetts, I was really impressed with the delicious meals she produced from her slow cooker. She's a very creative person, and I wondered whether her special touch had made the meals taste so special. Taking a chance, I ordered the book for myself. Back in California, I'm delighted to find that the meals I have tried are just as delicious as the ones ...

Excellent Cookbook
My husband received Ron Popeil's "Showtime" Compact Rotisserie for his birthday this past summer. We have always really like Rotisserie chicken, but I did not know much about cooking with a rotisserie. I saw this cookbook online and it received some good reviews and thought it would be worth it even if we got just a few good recipes out of it. Turns out everything has been wonderful. I have ...

Very Informative and A Must Read For Pregnancy
I read this when I was first expecting. This is an easy book to read and understand. It gave detailed information as to what to expect during labor and how to prepare myself emotionally and physically. Throughout my pregancy I constantly referred back to this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is expecting. This book helped to allievate my fears and was encouraging in the ...

Easy As Pie
Finding a great pie anywhere is extremely difficult. In fact, it is rare that I would even ask for pie as a dessert choice because they are usually not very good. However, my hankering for pie reached a frenzy after watching the movie "Waitress". For those unfamiliar with that movie, its main character explains her feelings through coming up with creative pies. When the movie's credits ...

Love it!
We really love this book. It is casual and easy going. No insincere talk or boring chapters. Each chapter is well thought out and has a great point to make. Also it is based in the real world that I live in. The authors understand the issues that normal people deal with in a daily grind because they too have done it. My boyfriend and I read a chapter to each other every night or so before we go ...

My husband and I were bored, bored, bored with vegetables until we picked this up. Easy to make recipes with a minimum of cleanup and absolutely delicious. We use our gas grill to roast the veggies for extra kick and ease of preparation. All the recipes use common ingredients- many of them you can just whip up with what you've got in the house left over from your weekly shopping! Serve any recipe ...

a perfect baby shower gift!
I bought this for a friend as a baby shower gift. I'd intended to get the old standby, 'what to expect', but I found this to be a more relevant guide, with humor AND great info and tips written from the point of view of a labor and delivery nurse who is also a mom. I've had three kids and would have loved to have this at my bedside when I was pregnant. Highly recommended!!

Great Recipes, Good Instruction
I'd rate this as a great recipe book, and a good but not great BBQ instruction book. The author is not shy about telling you how good he is and he wants you to be just as proficient at cooking up great food. The book's recipes cover all kinds of meats, including beef, pork, lamb, chicken and even goat, plus there was a chapter on fish, an unexpected bonus. Whole sections are dedicated to ...
