Great plots!
I was first introduced to Jason Bourne via the movies, but happened across the Bourne Ultimatum and fell inlove with the book which was my first Ludlum. I like the various plots and it actually made me wish that the movies had followed the books much closer. Having said that, the movies were quite good also, but the Bourne Ultimatum gave me so much more in the form of plots.

Lives up to the hype
Okay, now I understand what all the fuss is about. Gibson creates a vivd and engrossing world, entirely believable despite being so fantastic, and does so with a daring, sharp prose style that makes no apologies for bowling forward and leaving slow readers behind. He never holds you by the hand. Never indulges in overt descriptions and filling in all the blanks. It's just quick, cutting, laced ...

A thrilling read for Navy fans
INVASION is a well written book that I literally could not put down until I finished. It tells the story of a near-future history in which an isolationist United States has stopped spending money on its conventional arms and instead hides behind an "impenetrable" missile shield. With its funding reduced the Navy becomes second-rate, enabling the expansionist Chinese to gain control of the ...

Great story, dumb ideas
I am very surprised by the hostile reviews to this engaging novel. I suppose many could be put off by the socialist orientation of the author and the story. I agree that at times the book reads like a propoganda piece for the Socialist International. I am certainly no socialist, very much the opposite as some of my other book reviews will attest. To describe this as a novel of ideas is ...

William Gibson

Best sprawl narrative.
This is one of Gibson's most complete novels. Almost seamless from start to finish it flows i a almost organic fashion from one plot point to another. The background on the net star is priceless. Best sprawl narrative of the trilogy.

You must choose a road for yourself.
This is a great black and white "noir" graphic novel. There was a movie based on it, which you may have seen. The book is better, in my opinion. It is masterfully written, and the art is great. It's almost 300 pages long, but it just flies by. Highly recommended.

for jaded futurists in search of "that physical thing"
There is an odd surface tension here; some readers may approach Idoru from the wrong bias, through the lens of Neuromancer and the Sprawl trilogy. Those readers will expect the traditional cyberpunk romp of amphetamine-fueled Yakuza battles and twisted violent sex in coffin hotels; those readers will be disappointed and may not be able to penetrate the skin of this charged, deeply emotional book. ...

Gregory Benford
Heyne, 2000
I was debating between 3 or 4 stars....
As a black woman, I must say that reading these reviews both disturbed and intrigued me. Many of the reviewers wrote that Mr. Benford does not "accurately" portray a black woman. To this, I must ask, how is a black woman "supposed" to act/think/feel? To say that Alicia is unrealistic is to relegate black people to one-dimensional stereotypes. After reading so many negative reviews about the ...

it's my favorite book of the Pitt series so far
I've read the 11 "Pitt" books prior to this, but I enjoyed this the most. Some thoughts: -It's not necessary to have read previous books in the series to find one's way around the characters and setting. -The book is populated with interesting characters. -Our friend Micah Drummond also plays a noteworthy expanded role. -Most important for a mystery like this, the ending needs to be ...

Long, but enjoyable!
Nice to get into the publishing world, I enjoy Olivia Goldsmith's style, she takes a lot of time to draw the picture, and to dig deep into the players, it was interesting and enjoyable. I am a big fan of hers, and this is one of her best.

Robert Charles Wilson
Heyne, 2003
Despite it's flaws, still an engaging read
I can't disagree with some reviewers who said it felt unfinished or somehow lacking. It did, but it's only slightly longer than 200 pages, so while if I'd read a 600 page book and felt that way, that would be more of a problem. Overall, I think Wilson had a story in mind, and largely he told it and told it well, as he always does. If your new to Wilson, this might not be the best book of ...

Bram Stoker
Heyne, 2001
An old fashioned tale that doesn't offend
Bram Stoker's "Dracula" was first published in 1897, and as one reads this work, it is overwhelmingly apparent that it was written during a time when morals and virtues were held in a much higher regard than they are today. The book is comprised primarily of various journal entries from six main characters. Two of these main characters are remarkable women, possessed of lofty talent and high ...

Darwinia wins
Many things could have go wrong with this novel. The concept is so promising that it could have easily been bloated to a 1200 page novel or even a Wheel of Time infinite nightmare. But Wilson of 1998 was a great editor, cutting out all unnecessary subplots and subsubplots, giving his novel excellent pace. It's a shame that it got nominated for Hugo and lost it (double shame it lost it to "to Say ...
