Great Japanese Quilt Patterns
This is the best book of Japanese-style blocks I have seen. The author describes various types of Japanese patterns and provides very precise directions for construction of each block, plus ideas for combining different blocks into quilts. The book also contains a variety of interesting patterns for Sashiko stitching. It is an exceptional book for anyone interested in Japanese-style quilts.

Forget about Esme--Read Judy!
If you're a pre-service or new teacher this book will spur you on. If you're a veteran, it may fan your passion and make you remember why you wanted to teach in the first place. The first story alone, on making a quilt, was worth much more than the price of the book in the many valuable lessons it taught me. If you are a teacher, read this book. If you know someone who wants to be a ...

You will be amazed !
We all love now to take care of our own health, right ?! Few of us understand, though, the Chinese medicine, unless you read a lot of books on same subject. And then you have to "digest" the information and apply it patiently to yourself. WE ALL ARE UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS. And the ones who will borrow or buy this book will prove to be the smart ones too. Not only that I would recommend this book to ...

The delightful Delany sisters
This book was recommended to me by my 95-year-old mother, and I must say it was an excellent recommendation. Author Amy Hill Hearth must have had numerous conversations with Sadie (age 102) and her "little sister" Bessie (100). The book is written with the words and the spirit of these two special ladies shining through each page. The Delany sisters were born to a father who was a former ...

NEW & AUTHENTIC
Lineage is not staying in one place all the time. Lineage is a line of living connections. New can be authentic. You may differentiate between old tradition and emerging tradition. Validity is not merely the province of antiquity. We build on what has gone before.

Beauty achieved
As someone who is a novice I found this book relatively easy to follow. I have been doing origami for a long time, but I am not consistent with it. It is something I love and I know basics, but not something I am constantly working to excel at, even though I wish I had the time to. With a stressful job I needed an outlet and so have taken origami up again to relax and have a creative outlet. ...

One of the best books about relaxation
"Total Relaxation" by John R. Harvey, PhD, is one of the most comprehensive yet concise books on the subject of tension and relaxation. Harvey takes the reader on a journey through every system of the body in which tension can occur. He goes into great detail about the possible causes of tension in each system, and helps the readers assess for themselves where and why their own tension resides. ...

Advice from a martial arts instructor
The techniques in this book are efficient and to the point. They work and work well. I have taught them to law enforcement and military police. If you are going to pratice these techniques with a partner I suggest you use a length of PVC pipe of the appropriate length and pad it with foam insulation and go slow, otherwise you will need to find a new partner each time and shortly run out of people ...

Sushi Cookbook by Yamamoto and Hicks
Although I love sushi, my mastercard is not everywhere I want to be. Making sushi at home is fun and much more economical. The Sushi Cookbook gives fundamental terminology, tools, and techniques that allow basic sushi to be made at home. It beautifully illustrates in 4 to 5 mini- "step-by-step" pictures how to make basic rolls, finger sushi, garnish and soups with one grand colorful picture ...

Hirokazu Kanazawa

A great book from a great master
From my point of view, Mr. Kanazawa is the greatest karate master alive. I never had the chance to see him "live" on a training course, but lots of video tapes fell into my hand throughout the years. As I love books, I always wanted to read his work, so I've chosen this one to start with. It was not a surprise for me that the book is as good as its author, professionally written and illustrated, ...

He who is Lord of Malacca has Venice by the Throat
Thus goes the old saying which aptly summarised the politics and economics of the renaissance spice trade. Charles Corn's splendid narrative of the spice trade seeks to explain the forces which inspired Western Europeans to commit acts of bravery and madness in pursuit of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and pepper. Provided you didn't get yourself either killed by the weird island Sultans of the ...

A Dark Voyage Into The Heart of the Canadian Arctic
This book is interesting for a number of reasons. First, it is a story which has a history of its own, written decades ago and re-published in an updated version exhibiting the artwork of the original hardcover. However, it is the story of the legendary John Hornby which grasps the reader, and catapults him back into a time when true adventurists and explorers still existed. The book does a ...

Living In Living Out
This book is a wonderful account of how African-American women made it at the turn of the century. I enjoyed reading how these women made a difference in the lives of the people and children in their families. This book showed me just how strong Black women are. It allowed me to see that they had the strength to go on and face any adversary that came into their lives. Any woman or person ...

Great Source of Ingelligence on Growing and Using Veggies
`Oriental Vegetables' by English gardening writer Joy Larkcom is the real deal. For foodies like myself, the most important thing to know about the book is exactly what deal it is real. I bought it with a bunch of other books on Asian ingredients without paying attention to much about the book except for the title, being lead to it by Amazon's cleverly surfacing books related to the books you ...
