Practial and concise
Wow. I am new to the AS/400 and RPG (I've been a programmer since the 70's). After using several other books to try and learn RPG IV, I found this one. What a treasure. It is well written, well organized and tells you what you need to know when you need to know it! It is a good reference book for a beginner and the examples are understandable. If you are starting in RPG and need a ...

Good Examples
Overall I am impressed with the well structured chapters. Very well organised. Examples used in this book are very practical and easy to follow. If there is a new edition in the future, would be great if it can incorporate chapters on plugins like Hibernate, Business Process Manager (Workflow) and Business Rules inside RAD.

A Good Primer, that is, a low level
IBM's i5 seies of mid range servers is the replacement for and the logical extension of the AS 400 series. The i5 consists of a family of compatible systems suitable for use by small to fairly good sized corporations. They are bases on the IBM manufactured Power PC family. This book is an excellent introduction to the i5, beginning with unpacking the equipment and going on to administering a ...

Great IT PM Handbook
I purchased this book after my co-worker the Senior PM quit and I as the Business Manager had to jump in and manage the outstanding projects and team members alike. I had a basic understanding prior, but this book was essential. I am a book learner by nature & I liked the fact that this book had a CD that included templates for scopes and the like. I was able to effectively manage the projects ...

good book - but doesnt hold on the promise
this book is ok - but it's not meant for experienced administrators because its not going into the real internals of aix. its a nice refresher of aix tuning commands though. you should buy it if you need a handy and up to date reference book for aix 5.3. aix 6.1 is mentioned only marginally. unfortunately it's made of cheap paper and doesn't provide a good feeling - the price is ok but i'd ...

Buy it, learn it, and you will pass!!!
At first I was using a Study Guide given from the IBM website and was caught off guard with topics I haven't seen before when I took the online test exam. After seeing and purchasing this book... WOW! It had it all. I would not have passed the 730 exam without it. Buy it now if you need to pass the fundamentals exam.

Great Book for 731 Exam
Review for DB2 9 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration: Certification Study Guide This is the best book for preparing for Exam 731. I have used Roger Sanders' books in the past (viz. for v8 exams - 700 and 701). This book, like the other ones, is lucidly written and easy to understand. Also, since this is an exam preparation book; he has sample questions after every chapter. ...

Book Review
This book provides an excellent overview of identity management. It gives background information on the concept of an identity and then explains all the topics that need to be addressed: authentication, authorization, workflow, federation, role management, Compliance management (SOX related), data cleanup etc. I found the chapters on PKI and smartcards explained the subjects well. The case ...

So You've Been Handed this Team Project
One indication that a concept's time has come is the addition to Micosoft's product line of software to facilitate that concept. Such is the case with Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005 Team System. Here is a simple to get project developent package oriented to software design, development, testing by people scattered among work groups around the world. This book, however, carries on with the ...

Another Home Run
It's not surprising that this book is extremely well written and informative considering the two authors. Roger Sanders is "the" DB2 author we all admire and Dwaine Snow has long been considered an "expert to the experts" so the collaboration of these two virtually guaranteed a success. Despite this being a Certification Study Guide (a slot that it fits very well indeed), the information this ...

Extremely vague - written for people with no common sense.
The title of the book should be: "Tips on how to use common sense" and not "Managing the Project Life Cycle." For $60 I expected a detailed and resourceful book that would help our company develop a reliable Software Life Cycle. This book wasted my time and my company's money. I would rather use ISO 12207 or MIL-STD 498 documents as a reference rather than this book. Bottom line: there are ...

If you need to work with the WebSphere AS get this book
The step by step format of this book is excellent. Within minutes after unpacking the book I was putting it to good use. I had spent a few days trying to follow all the cross references and procedures in the RedBooks for configuring SSL and was getting lost. But this book provided all the information I need in chronological order with step by step instructions and screenshots. The procedures ...

Make room on your shelf for this!
Review by Jon Paris. Although I have rarely had problems using the C-style APIs from RPG, for some strange reason, the system APIs have always intimidated me. Perhaps it is the arcane terminology that IBM use to describe them. Perhaps it is the lack of good RPG examples in the manuals. Or perhaps I'm simply API-phobic. Whatever the reason, I have often turned to the experts when I needed ...

Everything I expected
This book is one of those examples of "all good things come in small packages". It is a very pleasant read and excellent for reference. Besides the free format syntax, the book also explains other things such as the use and syntax of Built In Functions and some aspects of ILE. Highly recommend this book to anybody thinking of using RPG Free.

This book lives up to the quality we expect from Ted & Ernie
This book is an excellent book even for seasoned veterans on the iSeries. I found at many tips and examples that were very valuable. Ted Holt always manages to keep one step ahead of the game and provide insight into CL, RPG and iSeries in general. I have been following Ted & Ernies technical articles for years and I would recommend this book to any of my colleagues. It seems Ted always ...
