Graffiti Planet: The Best Graffiti from Around the World
Alan Ket
Michael O'Mara, 2007
Graffiti or "street art" has been a significant art form for more than 20 years, altering and shaping the urban landscape from Tokyo to Paris, Los Angeles to Sydney, Belfast to Berlin. Ever-changing and evolving, its anonymous, transient nature means it literally can appear one day and disappear the next. Yet out of this shifting mass of spray paint, some true stars have emerged?artists such as Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Banksy?as ...

Charming from start to finish!
I actually listened to the audiobook version, read very entertainingly by John Barrowman himself. I can't say whether the book benefits from a slight abridgment, but I suspect it benefits quite a bit by the addition of John Barrowman's always charming delivery. I smiled all the way through, laughed aloud in places, and found myself touched in more. Besides the look into his life thus far (his ...
The Wicked Wit of Winston Churchill

Michael O'Mara, 2001
It's one thing to know the right words, but another when and how to use them.
The wise and witty words of Winston Churchill ring throughout the 20th Century.Any that knew him personally or had anything to do with him must have waited with anticipation of hearing what he would say anytime he opened his mouth. This held true for Kings,Presidents,Generals and yes even for his family, including his grandaughter. At times, his use of silence could be as cutting a reply as ...
Make Do and Mend: Keeping Family and Home Afloat on War Rations (Official Wwii Info Reproductns)
Jill Norman
Michael O'Mara, 2007
With the nation's industrial output concentrated on the war effort and a clothes ration in place by June 1940, basic clothes were in short supply in wartime England and high fashion was an unknown commodity. Adults were issued as little as 36 coupons a year to spend on clothes, but a man's suit could cost 22 coupons, a coat 16, and a lady's dress 11. The need to recycle and be inventive with other materials became more and more necessary, and so ...

Not so great...
This book is strange. The trivia sections are ridiculously easy (with questions like "5 x 10 = ___" or "11, 22, 33...next number in sequence is: __"). Then there are puzzles that are quite impossible with barely any instruction (you have to look at the answers just to figure out how to play). I've ended up skipping through and just playing the Sudoku puzzles. I'd recommend "The Big Book of ...

Super Fun
This is a great children's book! My step mom got it for our (at that time)18 month boy and he loves it!!! The illustrations are great, the story is cute and easy to read, but the best is the little finger puppet... You can make him bounce along to the rythme of the story. At 20 months now our boy can repeat the sounds and knows all of the animals in the book.
Eating for Victory: Healthy Home Front Cooking on War Rations (Official Wwii Info Reproductns)
Michael O'Mara, 2007
Food rationing was introduced in England in January 1940 after supply ships were attacked by German U-boats. The first food items to be rationed were butter, sugar, bacon, and ham, though restrictions were also eventually placed on meat, fish, jam, biscuits, cheese, eggs, and milk. In response, the Ministry of Food produced a series of "Eating for Victory" pamphlets that advised the general public on how to cope with these shortages. Designed to ...

Incredibly good fun
This appears to be the ultimate love it or hate it book. I loved it. It's so much fun but it is full of swearing and it is very very gory at times. Not for the easily offended but if you want something completely different and so totally and unashamedly over the top then The Book With No Name won't disappoint. Great if you like slapstick violence and larger than life characters.

Worth buying
This book is an excellent, balanced, well-written account of Diana's life and a heartwarming glimpse into Diana's personality. The author has no axe to grind nor is he trying to make a buck by using the most shocking stories he knows. Instead, he has produced a very readable, fun book on Diana. I would not say this is THE one book to buy on the Princess of Wales but if you like to read about ...
Stately Passions: The Scandals of Britain's Great Houses

Whispers of scandal
This is a fascinating account of thirteen stately homes and the scandals which occurred in them. The book includes the homes of royalty and the aristocracy, starting with Balmoral, the Scottish home of the present day Queen Elizabeth 11, and is the site upon which, in 1128, the Scottish King David proposed the building of an Abbey. The building was added to, remodelled, burned down, attacked by ...
