Serious technical info and process for game coders
I'm old enough to remember awful books with titles like "Graphics Tips from Game Gurus". From the cover I was worried that this was that type of book. But there is wisdom in the saying "don't judge a book by it's cover". This is a very serious book about both the technical aspects of the job, and the serious non-technical process aspects of the job. As the author says in the first chapter "game ...
Theory of Fun for Game Design

A fascinating primer on how we enjoy ourselves
I should start out by mentioning that I'm reviewing this book from more of a general knowledge standpoint than a purely video game related one. A lot of other reviews have mentioned that there aren't many practical tips in this book, which is true, but that's why it's a theory of fun and not a handbook of rules. Theories pull basic meanings & principles out of a vast, murky subject that can ...
Cisco Network Security Little Black Book

Handy and cheap
A friend recommended this book to me as a cheap book that covered some of the higher-end issues with Cisco Security. I bought it and while I'm still working through it I'm really happy with it so far. I should probably give this one star off due to some exceedingly long paragraphs (give me a break to catch my breath!) and a few small spelling errors but none of this stuff made me disappointed in ...

Just the facts with no fluff
This book is great if you need to start administering SQL Server 2000 right away. Simple, plain language and great examples and walk-throughs make this book the way to go. You also do not need to wade through hundreds of pages of "fluff" like you do with other SQL Server texts.

This book was vital in setting up a robust Linux cvs config
I cannot over-emphasize how useful this book was to me while setting up my cvs repository on Linux. All the examples were germane and were correct, and the gotcha-s were highlighted. I go back to this book all the time. I cannot make any comment regarding the worthiness of this book for folks trying to install cvs on NT, as I blithely skipped over any NT commentary, but as far as Linux/UNIX ...

One of the best Wi-Fi guides
One of the best Wi-Fi guides
It's a toss-up for me between this book and O'Rielly's "Wi-Fi Hacks" book. Both books have up-to-date, well written content. The Hacks books is organized more aggressively into a set form that may or may not appeal to you. This book has a more traditional topic based organization. Topics include antenna coverage and construction, operating system information and coverage of the different types ...

Duntemann Does It Again!
Words cannot express how happy I am to be able to write a review for Jeff Duntemann's new book. I have "known" Jeff since around the early 1980's. Unfortunately, Jeff and I are both old enough to remember when correspondence outside of your office took place via snail mail and the most popular Internet tools of the time were Archie, Veronica and Gopher. The things that I like the most about ...
