The best book in the series!
I pretty much said it all in the title! This book is awesome! It's got the most action, battles, and the coolest bad guys! It's great! Read this book!

Grandfather Twilight38 reviews
Barbara Helen Berger

Philomel, 1988

A Must Book for Every Child's Library
This was my favorite book to read to my daughter when she was little. It was also just MY FAVORITE BOOK to look at. The illustrations are beautiful. The story has few words, so you are also able to use your imagination while looking at the pictures and thinking about the story. I highly recommend adding this book to your collection - whether or not you have children or grandchlidren.

The Fires of Merlin (Lost Years of Merlin)39 reviews
T. A. Barron

Philomel, 1998

WOW!
Do not view these as five individual books, but as five pieces of a whole saga. To read only one would be to cheat one's self of seeing an entire picture. The epic begins with an child with no memory being raised by a mysterious woman in a small village. Both of them are regarded as local oddities and driven to live in a convent. The boy is known as Emrys, but never feels that that is his true ...

You Are My I Love You106 reviews
Maryann Cusimano

Philomel, 2001

not just about parent/child love...
I bought this book several years ago when Daniel Pinkwater reviewed it on Public Radio. It perfectly describes a relationship between parent and child, where the parent is the stable rock the child craves, the child the ingenuous spirit the adult has lost. I don't see it as being limited to adults and children. I have many of the same feelings about some of my adult friends. I do agree with ...

Owl Moon53 reviews
Jane Yolen

Philomel, 1987

Worthy of an Award - a review of "Owl Moon"
I like Jane Yolen's work - the children do too (lol). But Owl Moon is probably the most poetic of her works that we have read. The word choice and imagery is wonderful; soft and soothing. You can hear the crunch of snow, and feel the biting cold. Like the others I give it 5 stars, and would add that it makes for a good bed-time book. Five Stars. Top notch Read-aloud. Artwork is nice, ...

Salamandastron (Redwall, Book 5)136 reviews
Brian Jacques

Philomel, 1993

Great!
At one time, this was my favorite redwall book. It was also the first redwall book I read all of. In this book, the fearless badger lord Urthstripe the Strong leads his army of long patrol hares in a battle against the cruel Ferahgo the Assasin. Read this book, it's great!

The Seven Songs of Merlin (Lost Years of Merlin)77 reviews
T.A. Barron

Philomel, 1997

Fun Fantasy For All Ages
The second installment of the Lost Years of Merlin finds him fighting not only for his own life, but also the lives of 2 people close to him. He must solve the mysteries of the seven songs and come to understand their meanings before he can be of any use to those who desperately need him. The perils are many, the rewards are spectacular. T.A. Barron writes another winner as he continues his ...

Mattimeo (Redwall, Book 3)213 reviews
Brian Jacques

Philomel Books, 2001

EXCELLENT! 10/10!
This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!

Over the Wall20 reviews
John H. Ritter

Philomel, 2000

GOOD BOOK
Hi, my name is A.C. Murphy and I thought that "Over The Wall" by John H. Ritter was a good book. My Favorite character would have to be Tyler's cousin Louis. Louis is my favorite character beacuse he plays 2nd base just like I do. In the beginning of the book, Tyler comes from San Diego and goes all the way to New York City. While Tyler is in New York City, his cousin asks him if he wants to play ...

The Mirror of Merlin (Lost Years of Merlin)34 reviews
T. A. Barron

Philomel, 2007

The Miror of Merlin
I liked this book because it presented problems not yet thught of in the average reader's mind. This bookis also intertwined with the other books so you didn't have to meet the whole cast of characters. It took little characters from the other books and made them bigger in one way or another. In every book new information is presented, this book holds alot. Not considering learning about Fincayra ...

The Butterfly15 reviews

Philomel, 2000

The Butterfly
I found "The Butterfly" a very interesting book because it not only shows how Jews, but how non-Jews lived in fear in World War II. It tells how the little girl, Monique, is afraid of the "tall black boots" in her small French village. The "tall black boots" refer to the Nazi officers. It is not until Monique's friend, Monsieur Marc, is beaten and taken away by the officers when Monique finds out ...

Black Duck15 reviews
Janet Taylor Lisle

Philomel, 2006

Black Duch
Black Duck is a great piece of historical fiction. It tells the story of the rumrunners off the coast of Rhode Island. Because of the mystery running through it, this book will keep you reading for more to find a surprise at the end. There is a couple of "bad" words in the book, however, I recommend it for 6th through 12th graders, boys and girls.

When the Sun Rose18 reviews
Barbara Helen Berger

Philomel, 1986

Sunshine Lights the Heart
Some children's books should be reprinted. Like The Great Blueness by A. Lobel. Like this one. (The Great Blueness and Other Predicaments) This is an excellent example of a simple child's story that would be worth campaigning to see put back on shelves. I'm a bit busy but taking a little break to look it over and re-read....assembling the books for my first units of study in first grade. My ...

The Great Redwall Feast (Redwall)20 reviews
Brian Jacques

Philomel, 1996

flawless illustrations and a loooong poem
Fabulous illustrations occupy most of the page in this 64-page poem of 101 six-lined stanzas with an AACBBC rhyming scheme. The story incorporates many of the series' favorite characters, including Matthias and Cornflower, and depicts not only the preparations of a wonderful Redwall feast by hares and mice and otters, but includes a riddle as well. This book is really beautiful and should be ...

Flambards16 reviews
K. M. Peyton

Philomel Books, 1982

wonderfully written, timeless story
I first read this trilogy 18 years ago, shortly after I had seen bits and pieces of the series of the same name on PBS, and I was unable to put it down. Although the books are geared towards young adults, do NOT let that hinder you--adults of any age will find these novels appealing because they are well-written, the characters are fully developed and engaging, and the storyline, with its ...

Mr. Lincoln's Way16 reviews

Philomel, 2001

A book with so much Character
Mr. Lincoln was the greatest principle ever. He dressed cool and he acted cool. He would do all sorts of things with his students. He seemed to really light up his school. Well not so much to mean gene. Gene is mean and he is not afraid to show it. He doesn't like people that are different from him. He picks on them and even calls them mean names. All the teachers felt as if they have had enough ...
