Be prepared for a wild ride!
This is actually a compilation of the first four books in Mary Janice Davidson's "Undead" series. I happened to get this through a book club that I belong to and it was cheaper to buy the hardcover compilation than to buy the four paperbacks individually. I was definitely taking a chance by doing this because I had never read any of Davidson's works in the past. I was not disappointed! ...

3 novels in 1 book...
This book contains the first 3 novels in the Kitty series plus one short story. Kitty and the Midnight Hour, Kitty Goes to Washington, Kitty Takes a Holiday and the short story Kitty Meets the Band. Kitty is a dj who was turned into a werewolf while running from a bad date. Her radio show is a place that supernatural beings or "monsters" as they call the werewolves and vampires, can call in with ...

Charlaine Harris

Great fun, loved it
Our heroine, Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress in a small southern town. She is basically a normal human, except she can read other peoples' thoughts. Considering there are vampires, werewolves, witches etc, being able to read minds is essentialy normal. Isn't it? Charlaine Harris, the writer, is obviously influenced by Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Bryant, vampire executioner necromancer ...

Nicely Laid-Out One Volume Masterpiece!
Of course I will not regurgitate the sweet plot of J.R.R. Tolkien's great novels, The Lord of the Rings. If there's any criticism it's that the volume does not have The Hobbit, but that's a minor quibble. But why get this book? Unlike the little paperbacks, this thick volume not only has all three books into one volume, it has large type and holds easily in the hands. After you have ...
Night Angel Trilogy: The Way of Shadows / Shadow's Edge / Beyond the Shadows

Outstanding Triology!
Without a doubt one of the best fantasy stories (series of books) I have read in a very long time! Cannot say enough good things about this trilogy. Fantastic story, plot and characters. Memorable characters who you'll find yourself contemplating who would best play them in the movie. Cant' wait to read his next effort. A+++

Lensmen Series, vol 1 & 2
This series and Alfred Bester's "The Stars My Destination" empassioned my desire for the stars and science fiction. Star Trek and Star Wars would not be the stories they are or have the impact they do without the forward thinking of EE Doc Smith and Bester. These stories enthralled me as a youth and still capture my imagination 30+ years later. Volume 1 and 2 are "must haves" for any serious ...

The second collection of Anita Blake novels in hardback
"The Midnight Cafe" is the second of three hardback editions that collect several novels in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. "Club Vampyre" had the first three stories and "The Midnight Cafe" has the next three: "Lunatic Cafe," "Bloody Bones," and "Killing Dance." That last one has proven to be the pivotal novel in the series. In "Lunatic Cafe" our heroine no ...

My favorite of her Valdemar books
I just love the Valdemar series, and this one is classic. Wonderful bad guys, great characters, funny & suspenseful, corny but in a good way. Don't just buy one of this trilogy at a time. Get them together like I did in the hard bound book, or buy all 3 paperbacks, because you'll want them. If you like a good magical adventure with a little romance, you'll enjoy this series.

The Future is For the Young
To the Stars (2004) is an SF omnibus, containing Between Planets, The Rolling Stones, Starman Jones and The Star Beast. These classic novels are all within the Juvenile series, a subset of the Future History universe. They involve young men who are faced with responsibilities beyond their years. Even Castor and Pollux are required to take on some responsibilities. These tales are in ...

Great Books!
This Omnibus is from the SCI-FI Book of the Month Club and was only sold to members. I bought it so that I could own a hardcover edition of these books. (I prefer hardcover for books that I can read over and over again) There are plenty of reviews for Blood Rites and Dead Beat out there, so I'll let you rely on those for more details. What I will say, is that Jim Butcher continues to become ...

Heinlein has always been on of the best
RAH, over the years has been accused of just about every political incorrectness that has come over the horizon, everything from militarism and sexism to racism. Oddly enough, the very evidence to correct every one of these impressions is there in his work. The most critical and important facts that help explain Heinlein in context are "where" and "when." RAH is from the deepest midwest, ...
Dune messiah & Children of Dune (Dune chronicles)

Frank Herbert
SFBC, 2002
Double the 60's drug culture meets political intrigue
Dune Messiah takes place about 12 years after the previous book Dune so you don't come in in the middle of a twisty plot. These would be fine to read without having read Dune first (I liked both books, but Dune was happier so read that one first anyway.) Dune Messiah begins with a meeting of conspirators as they plan how to take down the emperor Paul and come out politically ahead. The ...

Unlike anything else
I typically think of books as a spectrum with one end being the character novel and the other end the plot based novel. Really good novels are balanced in the middle, fantastic and engaging characters with a plot that builds and pulls you in. Take a Robin Hobb novel and you know you are going to get amazing and deep characters, but the plot may be lacking. Take a Michael Crichton novel and you ...
