Law of Psychic Phenomena3 reviews
Thomson Jay Hudson

Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1975

Educational
Edgar Cayce recommended this book in connection to readings dealing with the nature of the subconscious mind. Although written in 1893, the subject matter is relevant. In fact Jose Silva might very easily have been influenced by this work as it ties in very closely with his alpha states and self hypnosis. Of course any student of Cayce realizes Edgar put himself in a "self-induced" trance in ...

Essays in Zen Buddhism, first series (The complete works of D. T. Suzuki)7 reviews
Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki

Samuel Weiser, Inc, 1985

A classic, engaging introduction to Zen
More than any other known source, this series of essays (including the other two companion volumes) have probably done the most to put Zen 'on the map' - in the Western world. In some quarters - at least, it has become fashionable to regard D.T. Suzuki as 'passe' - a bridge builder, whose work has now reached its 'sell-by' date. While I can see why some people might feel that way - if training ...

Diary of a Drug Fiend47 reviews
Aleister Crowley

Samuel Weiser Inc., 1993

A Classic For Eternity About Healthful Living
It's not quite as much fun to write a review when it seems everyone is basically in agreement. Crowley was not as evil as folklore suggests, and he was a lot more intellectually accomplished than his detractors would care to admit. What struck me about this book were the resounding themes in the final chapters. (I don't think this is a suspense-driven book, so I don't see myself as ...

Beautifully and profusely enhanced with the inclusion of 270 full color and black/white vintage and contemporary photos, maps, and diagrams, "A Search In Secret Egypt" by the late Paul Brunton (1898-1981) presents a wealth of information and insights that the author has compiled over his more than 70 years of studied inquiry into the metaphysics and religion of ancient Egypt. Islamic Sufism1 review
Sirdar Ikbal Ali Shah

Samuel Weiser Inc., 1971

Superb and very "modern" even though first published in 1933
The editor's introduction and the chapters "Is Religion Possible With Sufism" and "The Spiritual Experiences" are absolute gems. The chapters "Conceptions of Sufism" and "Reality of Existence" are rather difficult. Overall, a superb work by the father of Idries Shah, Omar Ali-Shah, and Amina Shah. Definitely not for mushy, sentimental, overly emotional, inflexible zealots.

Numbers their meaning and magic1 review
Isidore Kozminsky

Samuel Weiser Inc., 1972

Accurate prediction of energies surrounding names or titles
I used this book for many years. It is precise and versatile. The introduction of numbers, their domains and vibrations is awsome. It adds many precise and astonishing reading/predictions of project's titles or names of people. I prefer the Pythagoras reading of all. I gave this book to so many people :) Now I am without.

Karmic Astrology: Retrogrades and Reincarnation [Volume II]4 reviews
Martin Schulman

Samuel Weiser Inc., 1977

It was a real eyeopener for us with multiple retrogrades.
Mr Schulman was the first astrologer that gave me a balanced understanding of my retrogrades planets. I now feel a lot more comfortable with their effects in my life. He is very thorough and insightful about the the energies that they represent and how they should be used. I'd always read that they were a big burden for me to carry but I now know that they are indeed a gift for me to use in ...

Magic and the Qabalah1 review
W.E. Butler

Samuel Weiser Inc., 1978

Great Introduction to Qabalah!
This review is from the hard cover edition of 1972-Aquarian Press. First, let me say that this is not a how-to book at all. It is, however, a great intro. to the subject of Qabalah. As far as the "Magic" part of the title, I found very little. But, it does give an excellent, but short, explanation of the four types of Qabalah namely: 1-Dogmatic 2-Literal 3-Practical and 4-Unwritten. Like I ...

The Tree of Life: A Study in Magic32 reviews
Israel Regardie

Samuel Weiser, INC, 1968

Israel Regardie Classic
Positively great work from Regardie, packed full of knowlege and enlightening information. Regardie has explained the deep meanings within the Tree of Life, Kabbala and occult subjects in a more easy to swallow format than most of the traditional cryptic titles. I got a lot out of this book and did not want to put it down for long, suited to people with limited knowlege and backgrounds on this ...

The Vision of the Nazarene1 review
Cyril Scott

Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1975

For open minded thinkers!
One of the best books of it's kind in print. Cyril Scott lays out in lament easy to understand terminolgy the philosphy of the way christianity should be viewed and taught, and not traditionally believed. Gives plain and simple explanations on how scriptures can be misrepresented, and how wrong thought process can discourage the novice christian believer. Jesus the master is seen from a most ...

The Heart of Buddhist Meditation: Satipatthna: A Handbook of Mental Training Based on the Buddha's Way of ...20 reviews
Thera Nyanaponika

Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1962

Perfect for Vipassana trainees
Having completed my first 10 day course (taught by Goenka-ji) in Vipassana meditation, I found this book to be very helpful in my continued practice of Vipassana, or mindfulness meditation.

The sword of Moses;: An ancient book of magic, from an unique MS1 review
M. Gaster

User

True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order: An Interpretation of the Rosicrucian Allegory and an Explanation of the ...12 reviews
Paul Foster Case

Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1985

A book to be studied
Dr. Case was a gift to humanity and True and Invisible Rosicrucian Order is a crown jewel amongst the treasure of material he left behind. It is not for everybody. This book requires patience and many readings to get the full value out of it. I agree with the other reviewers who say that the BOTA lessons provide a necessary foundation for truly getting the most out of this dense and ...

The book of Thoth: A short essay on the Tarot of the Egyptians, being the Equinox ...by the Master Therion38 reviews
Aleister Crowley

Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1969

Indispensable for understanding the Thoth Tarot
Anyone who studies the Thoth Tarot, or perhaps any tarot, should read this. It really brings out the mythos surrounding each card into full bloom, making a living form of divination that allows and encourages further personal introspection and commentary. The connection with astrology, which is my favorite divination and study, helped me understand and associate the symbols along with planets, ...

Karmic Astrology, Volume 1: The Moon's Nodes and Reincarnation (Karmic Astrology)11 reviews

Samuel Weiser Inc., 1975

BookDeservesMoreThanFiveStars
This handle little reference guide explians the Moon's Nodes (Dragon's Head and Dragon's Tail) and how lessons of the past effect who were are and what we do today. Indeed this book is an absolutely "must have" in any astrologer's bookshelf. The book explains the Moon's North and South Nodes as they move through the signs and houses better than other book I have read on the subject. The ...

The Initiate: Some Impressions of a Great Soul8 reviews
Cyril Scott (aka His Pupil)

Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1971

Masterpiece
Originally published under the pseudonym "His Pupil," this is the first volume of Cyril Scott's incredible trilogy aobut the exploits and philosophy of an "Initiate." The author provides some "autobiographical" data and then takes the reader through many episodes in which the Initiate acts contrary to the obvious, providing esoteric explanations of his actions. This is reminiscent of the ...
