John A. Keel

Perhaps the most interesting book I've ever read
The Mothman Prophecies is one of the few books that I've felt compelled to read several times. It's scary, thrilling, and intensely interesting, at least to a "paranomal" buff such as myself. And all of this in a nonfiction book. Perhaps truth really is stranger than fiction! It seems some people don't like John Keel's writing style, as it seems rather scatterbrained. I believe this is ...

Louis L'Amour

Good book
This is not one of my favorite L'Amour books, but it is a very good book. As another reviewer has said, the story is implausible, but that, to me, is no detraction; the story is well told and generally entertaining. What else can you wish?

First of this Outstanding Series
This the first book in this exceptional, albeit short, series about the fictional American spy Paul Christopher and his cohorts. Luckily, the earlier books have now been reissued and are available. Set in the Cold War era, which may seem long ago, the earlier novels are so well crafted that they are still great reads today and more than relevant.

Best Ice Cream cookbook ever!
This is one of the best cookbooks I have seen. The exquisite detail and care put into the wording and detail of each recipe is incredible. I hope to one day see more by this author. You will be amazed by the frozen culinary delights that can spring from this book.

A thought provoking book
I read this book years ago and just reread it. The issues are always important. The author does a great job presenting a non bias view of the tragedy of a father killing a son because he can't cope with the son's drug use. The problem is here years later I want to know how the survivors have moved on with their lives and generally what has happened to them.
Me and the Spitter;: An Autobiographical Confession

Gaylord Perry

AMONG THE BEST BASEBALL AUTOBIOGRAPHIES
Well written, moves along nicely, sounds like it really is Gaylord talking, and has lots of good material about the spitter. Written in mid-career. One very interesting tidbit is the story of his first time throwing the spitter in a major league game, because it's a game that many of us old-timers remember for a different reason: it was the 23-inning game in 1964 between the Giants and Mets, ...

Hamilton Maule
Saturday Review Press, 1972
A very good read by someone who turned his life around...
In 1966 (or there abouts Hamilton "Tex" Maule had a massive heart attack as he was leaving NYC to cover an Ali fight in Canada. The rest of the book is Maule's autobiography on how he sat at death's door and then turned his life around, and became healthier with running. In the 60's common post heart attack patients were told to "take it easy." The prevailing wisdom being that physical ...

This book is excellent for the small homesteader.
I find this book to be an invaluable source of reference. Each area (animal, insect or vegtable) is covered in a short, easy, humerous style. It even covers the basics of beekeeping! The gardening section and the poultry sections are especially good. I would recommend this book for use as a quick reference or as a source for those starting out a small farm to decide which type garden or ...

The Good Ol' Days
This was the life I missed out on in the Sixties. Not a sophisticated book, but has that homemade feeling, like it probably was. I'm about to reread it, again.
Carlito's way

A great crime memoir
If you like crime stories don't miss this one. This is one of my all-time favorites and it never really got the attention it deserves. The story of Carlito Brigante shows us the world of crime from a different angle than the classic Mafia tales. Carlito is Puerto Rican and comes up in the New York of the fifties and sixties. He's a hard-core criminal, hard-nose, and he makes no bones about it. ...

halfbreed by maria campbell
though her stories are not exclusive to the life of a Metis woman, the imagery is haunting. poverty, addiction, motherhood and the will of a society forced to make it on their own are all exposed. these themes are explored by other authors but not from this perspective. I would recommend this to every mother and/or women thinking of starting a family. this is a must read. for a guys ...

excellent autobiography of a football life.
Lance Rentzel examines the reasons why his life turned upside down in a matter of years. The experiences he had as a football player at Oklahoma and Dallas are quite astounding.
