Animal Physiology
From explaining how a mammal can stay underwater for lengthy periods, to how a camel can survive without water for days, this is a fascinating description of all types of animals and their unique ways of living. I never knew quite how fish breathe, nor how birds survive freezing temperatures. This is one book I can pick up, open to any page, and find the contents more intriguing than any ...

Understanding ecology is important in today s world. Yet, due to the sheer volume of conceptual material and morass of details to be digested, many students find it a difficult subject to grasp. Moreover, the dynamic nature of this discipline presents challenges to providing students with the most current information available. For some time now, instructors have been calling for a textbook that offers just the right balance of subject matter ...
Principles of Cognitive Neuroscience

Disappointing! Fails at providing adequate science.
I am very disappointed with this book and I feel terrible to have to give this book only 2 stars, because I was looking forward to evaluate this book as a potential text book or reference book for the cognitive science field. This is not the science material I would expect from a 2008 publication of anything seriously aimed for academics, although I'm sure some in the academia who are still in ...

The Origins of Genome Architecture

Original view on evolution
This book offers a non-conventional view on biological evolution, particularly that of animals, including humans. Solid molecular and population genetic analysis reveal that evolution of higher eukaryotes are realised predominantly by genetic drift of pseudo neutral mutations rather than by Darwinian type selection mechanisms. Authors' concept also might be applied to explain so far less ...

Speciation is great
Dude, amazon asked me to review this book... an invited review of Coyne and Orr's "_SPECIATION_" for my CV... Booyah!! This book is good news for anyone interested in speciation, and brainstorming material for any biologist who's willing to consider an evolutionary approach to his/her system or model or whatever. It would be a frustratingly difficult read for a non-biologist.

good end of the second millenium
I had the chance to give a overlook to prof. M.Rosenzweig text "Biological Psychology...", talking with my assistant teacher, I said, at last a nice, and good text for undergraduate student that are not going to be medicine student, but other profesional. This is the text for a change in the teaching of neuroscience; the result of it use will be clear at december 2000. the reasons for this: - ...

A essential book
The book of W. Judd is essential to all Botany student and studious of Systematics and General Botanical. For the ones that still feel difficulties in the comprehension of the concepts of Phylogenetic Systematics, the clear text and explanative allows a very clear vision of the whole process. The approach of the initial chapters, mostly of the chapter 2 is too much elucidative, allowing to the ...

Learning and Behavior: A Contemporary Synthesis
1 review
Mark E. Bouton
Sinauer Associates Inc, 2006
A pleasant, deep, thorough review of a beautiful science
Bouton's "Learning and Behavior" provides one of the best current introductions to the science of animal learning. This book might feel "hard to digest" at first due to the great amount of literature reviewed in it, as well as because of the many connections the author makes among different findings and theories (in my opinion, these are feats, rather than flaws). Don't desist... keep reading it! ...

Interesting read
I had to purchase this book for my Plant Ecology course. I found that the book was an interesting read (if you like the subject matter). My course followed the main topic from the chapters, but not directly. The book was a great supplement to the class and by reading it I really understood the concepts. We went more indepth in some topics in class and I wish that the book covered it, because ...
