Cathedral & Tombstone Radios

In the 1930s radio manufacturers turned their attention to designing stylish radio cabinets that would look attractive in the home, a big improvement over the boxy radio cabinets of the 1920s. Cathedral shaped and tombstone shaped wood table radios were popular throughout the decade, and are featured here in this identification and price guide for collectors. Pictures of radio sets, manufacturer and model designation, date, tube count and band ...
The Compleat Talking Machine: A Collector's Guide to Antique Phonographs

Eric L. Reiss
Sonoran Pub, 2003
Great resource for restoring and repairing phonographs
I think you will find this an awesome book, as long as you know what to expect. Reiss focuses on external horn machines, and includes only a couple of pictures of the internal horn machines. If you are looking for a book with lots of details about Victrola models, this is not it. That's not a problem if you are looking for repair information, since most wind-up machines share the same basic ...
The All-American Five Radio: Understanding and Restoring Transformerless Radios of the 1940'S, 50'S, and 60's

Great little primer
Where was this book when I got started?!! Probably the best "first book" for anyone interested in repairing old radios--or just learning about how they work. The book is limited to the All American 5 Superhet radio just as the title says and therefore is highly focused on these radios which make up the bulk of the vintage radios out there today. Too many books try to discuss every old radio ...

Eric P. Wenaas
Sonoran Pub, 2007

This book documents and pictures every radio receiver and the accessories sold by RCA during that first decade, featuring nearly 700 photos of apparatus, magazine ads and promotional literature. It also ...
Crystal Clear: Vintage American Crystal Sets, Crystal Detectors, and Crystals: Volume 2

Maurice L. Sievers
Sonoran Pub, 1995
There are two volumes in the Crystal Clear set...
ISBN: 188660603X is Volume 2 (252 pages) which describes and pictures additional radio sets not in volume 1. 1886606013 is Volume 1 (282 pages). The important part is the hundreds of pictures of the actual radio sets and/or magazine adds and, when possible, also shows a couple of sentences or so of information about each particular set. The idea is to help identify the huge variety of the many ...

Tube Testers and Classic Electronic Test Gear
EXCELLENT treatise by well known "Vintage Radio" author Alan Douglas on the many well known (Hickok, Heath, Eico, B&K, Precision) and "not-so-well-known" (Military, AVO, Western Electric, Mercury, Triplett, Weston) Vacuum Tube Testers.
