Gerrard: My Autobiography4 reviews
Steven Gerrard

Transworld Publishers, 2007

Candid and Entertaining Sports book
As an American who loves watching the Premier League games every weekend, I have become a huge fan of Liverpool. Reading this autobiography of Steven Gerrard helped me gain insight into the depth of the football culture from youth leagues to the professional ranks in England. Gerrard's story is a fairly typical young boy achieves his dreams tale, but he is engaging and the book is lively and ...

Mort: The Play (Discworld Series)121 reviews
Terry Pratchett

Transworld Publishers, 1996

good introduction to the series
I tossed this one back in my TBR pile after my son read it to give me an excuse to re-read. I hadn't forgotten how much I enjoyed this first Death book, and hadn't really forgotten the details either, but it was wonderfully fun revisiting it. The basic premise, for anyone who hasn't read the Discworld books, is that Death takes an apprentice, Mort. This is where we learn of the theory behind ...

A Tourist Guide to Lancre: A Discworld Mapp (Discworld Series)1 review
Terry Pratchett, Stephen Briggs

Transworld Publishers, 1998

Good, But The Other Maps Are Better
This map is a good map for those people (like me) who are addicted to Pratchett. Like the others, it helps so much with the visualisation of the places of the book (hubwise, rimwise - it all gets blurred after awhile). However, the map's only negative aspect was that it was a very large map with only a bit of detail here and there - Everything looked a bit spaced out.

Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher

Transworld Publishers, 2008

Jamie Carragher is one of the most charismatic footballers of his generation. Adored by the fans, he was recently voted the most popular player in the entire Liverpool squad. Yet the young Carra came to Liverpool as an Everton fan, from an Everton family, and with Everton friends. Packed with great anecdotes, controversial opinions and large helpings of his trademark humor, this is his story. Born in January 1978 in Bootle, Merseyside, Carragher ...

Winter Frost8 reviews
R.D. Wingfield

Transworld Publishers, 2000

Just Sheer Brilliance
Every Frost book I read is such supurb pleasure that I want to just keep reading it. This one is no exception. It is not Agatha Christie, nor is it Shakespeare. It is classic, never-the-less. It wont suit all - some people prefer more long words, or their sense of humour is too restricted. Frost books keep me on the edge of the seat, and emotionally charged. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I ...

Alaska60 reviews
James Michener

Corgi Books, Transworld Publishers Ltd., 1989

Michenerholism - Craving a rich tapestry of history and tales
First, let me announce my bias: I was born and raised in Alaska. When I saw this novel on the bookshelves when it first came out, I promised myself I'd read it even tho I had never read anything by Michener. Well, some 20 years later, I finally read it. And -- boy! -- do I wish I hadn't waited so long. It's a long book (close to 1,000 pages) and I was so engrossed that I almost lost sight of ...

Bad Luck and Trouble181 reviews
Lee Child

Transworld Publishers, 2007

Reacher follows in the literary Rambo's footsteps
Fans of David Morrell, Richard Stark (Donald Westlake), and F. Paul Wilson's brawny thrillers will love Lee Child's laconic loner hero. Featured in ten previous novels, Jack Reacher is a shiftless vagabond who owns nothing and lives nowhere and everywhere. A former military policeman and Army special investigator, he is also a knight-errant of sorts, using his experience, large body, and ...

Nanny Ogg's Cookbook (Discworld Series)16 reviews
Terry Pratchett

Transworld Publishers, 2001

read for the fantasy, not the food
I suppose you could call this a cookbook, but it's much more about Nanny Ogg than it is about the recipes. And let's face it--I bought it for the fantasy, not for the food. There are "recipes" for a lot of the foods you'll find in the Discworld books: dwarf bread, rat onna stick, dried frog pills... You could even quite possibly make some of the recipes in here for a lovely Discworld party and ...

Dreams That Glitter: Our Story
Girls Aloud

Transworld Publishers, 2008

When 2002's Popstars: The Rivals threw five unknown hopefuls together, wrote them a pop song, and gave them a recording contract, no one really expected them to conquer the world. Yet five years later, Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine, Nicola, and Sarah have come a long way indeed. With a record-breaking 16 consecutive Top 10 singles (including three number ones), four platinum albums, and record sales in excess of 4.2 million in the UK alone, they ...

Soul Music74 reviews
Terry Pratchett

Transworld Publishers, 1996

Wherein Death, Death's Grandaughter, Bud y Holly collide
Imp (Bud as in plants in Springtime) Y Celyn (Of the Holly trees) makes music his life (without understanding all the implications) and organizes a band with a troll, a dwarf, and briefly an orangutan; Death's grandaughter Susan considers the consequences of silliness, Death expresses gratitude with a rose in his teeth, a big hearing-impaired spotted cat arranges for a singer to appear with just ...

Wyrd Sisters: The Play (Discworld Series)79 reviews
Terry Pratchett

Transworld Publishers, 1996

Pratchett's all-time best
This book was originally published in 1988. Terry Pratchett's bibliography marches onwards towards 40 books, but as with every author, the true classics jump out at you. While many will choose Soul Music as Pratchett's zenith, or perhaps his collaboration with Neil Gaiman, Good Omens, I put the finger on Wyrd Sisters as the penultimate Terry Pratchett novel. It's the only book every fan can ...

The Italian Job: A Journey to the Heart of Two Great Footballing Cultures4 reviews
Gianluca Vialli, Gabriele Marcotti

Transworld Publishers, 2007

Excellent!
As a book this has not been published yet, but I have read serializations of it in the English The Times. I'd have to say that this is one of the few books which give very rare insights into English and Italian football cultures. The writers, Gianlucci Vialli and Italian journalist Gabriele Marcotti, have extensive experience in both countries' footballing leagues, and they draw on a number of ...

Wenceslas: The Eternal Christmas Story1 review
Geraldine McCaughrean

Transworld Publishers, 2008

Winter warmth from a beautiful book
STORY Based on the well know Christmas song, Geraldine McCaughrean has written a wonderful adaptation that is just perfect for winter reading to your children. A story of warmth, compassion and Yuletide spirit, this book should do great with both parents and children alike. ILLUSTRATIONS Somewhere online someone (I think it was a publisher) wrote that if ever any artist was perfect for his ...

Death's Domain: A Discworld Mapp (Discworld Series)9 reviews
Terry Pratchett, Paul Kidby

Transworld Publishers, 1999

Neat little novelty
This thing is like a book, it has a few pages discribing Death's domain. But what's really neat is that is has a huge fold out map of the entire world that Death lives in. It's so cool! It filled up a very good size portion of my wall and is really neat to walk in to see. It's got nice artwrok and everything. Even if you've never read the discworld series it's nice to have. Actually it kind'a ...

Tricks of the Mind5 reviews
Derren Brown

Transworld Publishers, 2007

Brilliant Book
If you've seen Derren Brown in action and it fascinates you as it does me, then this is the book for you, it gives you the principles and techniques to put into practice yourself, and be able to do some of the things he does on the show, from magic tricks to insane memory recollection, and much more, then Derren ends the book with his views on various topics out there, such as the paranormal, ...

Nostradamus Ate My Hamster5 reviews
Robert Rankin

Transworld Publishers, 1997

review numero uno
I found it absolutely hilarious, all the way through. If you like Robert Rankin, you'll like this. Even though it is extremely cunning and funny it still doesn't beat the armageddon trilogy!

Mole's Bedtime Story (Pop-Through-the-Slot series)
David Wood

Transworld Publishers, 2008

It?s time for bed and Mole is feeling very sleepy. But where is his bed? Mole climbs into Elephant?s lumpy bed, Mouse?s squeaky bed, and Kangaroo?s bouncy bed, but none of them feels quite right. Children can slide Mole through the slot in each picture and help him find his very own cozy bed. This is the perfect story for sharing at bedtime.

Sex and Drugs and Sausage Rolls10 reviews
Robert Rankin

Transworld Publishers, 2000

Off the wall
Hilarious. Absolutely mad. Check out his other books and read the reviews on amazon.co.uk (he's an English writer). Brentford does exist, it is near Heathrow airport on the way into London. Couldn't find the pub though. I am not into science fiction, or time travelling, but I am into inspired, slightly insane, totally off the wall, writing. There's none better than Robert Rankin. ...
