Cribbage Book by Buttler
This was the perfect book for me. All I knew about the game prior to reading Buttler's book had come from reading rules published by cribbage board makers and the American Cribbage Congress, which are sometimes leave a few items unclear. Buttler makes all aspects of the rules and strategy clear, at least to me. Highly recommended by me, a beginner, but I suspect that experts would find the ...

Fantastic sci-fi from Herbert yet again!
In Heretics of Dune, nearly 1500 years have past since Leto II's (The God Emperor) reign ended. Humanity is finally on the Golden Path that Leto II sacrificed so much for with most importantly, his humanity. Shortly after Leto II's death, his tyrannical reign began to weaken and a great many of humanity went out into the Scattering in search of populating several other planets and spreading ...

Who knew opera could be such fun?
Terry Prachett is a master storyteller- one of the best in any genre, I kid you not. Maskerade is yet another triumph from the Discworld series. For those who may not know, Discworld is a planet inhabited by witches, dwarfs, trolls, vampires... the usual fantasy suspects, but here, everyone has personality and they're not afraid to show it. In Maskerade, country girl Agnes Nitt escapes small ...

How could you not love this book?
We actually chose this book for our summer book club. It is really different reading it as an adult and for yourself. It was great fun! It is amazing how you can see yourself in most of the characters. Do you know people who you see in the different animals? We had a wonderful discussion.

Elias (Carol Stewart, Trans) Canetti

excellent
It requires a deeply individual experience to understand 'Crowds and Power'. According to Canetti, The concept of crowd is ontologically prior to Man; a crowd is not just a bunch of people. In one of the most illuminating books ever written, Canetti takes one through two of the most important traits that have shaped Man's destiny on this planet - the formation of crowds and the facet of power. ...

Vibrant
This was my first John Irving novel, and after reading this I am hungry to read his other novels, and I haven't been this excited about a novelist in a long time. Garp isn't perfect: the brutal scenes can be painful and difficult to relate to, but at least it does fit in with the plot. And yes, the major plot twist in the middle is a bit artificial. But overall, Irving's style is wonderfully ...

The perfect novel for a 3 day weekend
Recommended by a Washington Post article, this book does not disappoint. It starts off with action in Berlin then spins a web of deceit and lies that keep the reader engrossed. We follow our main character through twists and turns and in different countries. The climax? Completely out of left-field. Shocking. As I finished the book, I sat and started at the ending for a good five minutes. ...

Mildred Taylor

A Must Read for Every Child.
This book was recommended by my child's fifth grade teacher. It was their November book of the month to read for the class. It was a stretch with the slang talk of the south but it was understandable. It was an eye opener to the children as to how things were in the 1930's. Very good book and I would recommend this book to any fifth grade class for group reading and discussion.

Short but Sweet
My review, that is. Having read the entire trilogy I will simply say that you should read these books! Are you a fan of fantasy, a good story, or perhaps you just enjoy good writing? You'll find it all here. If you require a more in depth review there are others here that will fulfill your need.
ONCE IN GOLCONDA: A TRUE DRAMA OF WALL STREET 1920-1938.

Excellent!
Once in Golconda is a well-written financial history book. The setting is 1920s and 30s Wall Street. The drama centers around Richard Whitney, who falls from grace like the hero in a Greek tragedy. During the '29 crash, Whitney himself (he was president of the NYSE at the time) strode onto the floor of the exchange and bought U.S. Steel (and other blue chips) to temporarily halt the slide. In ...

If You Dance There, They Will Come
Everyone knows that fairies are bright, beautiful mythical creatures that fight darkness and evil and sing a lot of wistful songs, right? Well, not in the Discword (and not here either if you pay attention to the stories). Not in Lancre anywhere within bowshot of the eight Dancers on Copperhead mountain. It's crop circle season there right now and Granny Weatherwax can feel the worlds shift ...

One of Pratchett's best....and meanest
This book was first published in 1992. Terry Pratchett's 13th Discworld novel (and 23rd overall) is a satire of organized religion. It poses a conundrum to many fans. Most of Pratchett's novels are parody, and Webster's On-line Dictionary defines parody as "a literary or musical work in which the style of an author or work is closely imitated for comic effect or in ridicule". Of course, ...

Disc Dis-Oriented
Rincewind the non-magical wizard is a stock character in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Rincewind (one knows he is a wizard because it says so on his pointy hat) specializes in cowardice and running away. He is the complete anti-hero, the ultimate pawn of Fate and whatever god is having a bad day in Discworld's home of the gods, Dun Manifestin. Any book with Rincewind in it is sure to be ...

Even cat haters will probably love this book.
I'm amazed that there are any people out there who don't love this book. Pratchett, the funniest writer in English of the past century (even considering Wodehouse), takes on the orneriest species of the planet. Because it's a little coffee-table book, of course it won't have the depth and span of his best fiction, but it does have his genially iconoclastic style, and his astounding ability to ...

Amazing tales need decent conclusions
The Revelation Space novels take you to an epic universe of pure Space odyssey. The stories unfold each tell their own tales of distant and exotic places, where nano technique serve humanity to unlock powers we can only imagine to grasp. Reading these novels brings the sensation of being far away, in a different time... And not wanting to return to reality before you know all answers. Magic keeps ...

Best sprawl narrative.
This is one of Gibson's most complete novels. Almost seamless from start to finish it flows i a almost organic fashion from one plot point to another. The background on the net star is priceless. Best sprawl narrative of the trilogy.
