Very interesting pictures
I purchased this book for my Art History class. Very interesting pictures along with non-boring texts. I really like the accompanied CD as it has all pictures from this text as well as other version of Gardner's art history books. Pictures are crystal clear. Although I finished that class long ago in 2002 and sold the book for school's book store with attractive price, I still have a copy of that ...

Sociology in Our Times: The Essentials

One of the better Sociology Textbooks
There are a number of good sociology textbooks available, and one can choose almost any of them with confidence. However, this is definitely one of the best. It is accessible, yet the author does not talk down to the student. The illustrations are pertinent and timely. The choice of topics is comprehensive. It is a broad-ranging textbook, yet, at the same time, is focused and direct. The ...

Hodges' Harbrace Handbook
I've been using this handbook for about 25 years, and recently realized that my edition was the 3rd, published in the 1970s! So I ordered the latest edition (14th edition), and was so pleased with my purchase. This is a handbook that lives in our office, and gets used to death (we do graphic design, copywriting, editing). Any new employee on our staff is required to at least become familiar with ...

A manual for all
I will suggest this manual to every couple, especially the newly wed, even before suggesting any "how to ..my babie". I wish I had this book 40 years ago, most of my troubles would have never come. Many manuals out there, such "How to satisfy your woman/man" and such are just the mechanics of human relation, this is its soul. Matter of fact I will bring a copy to Italy next May to two newly wed ...

Complete, Easy to Understand, and even...Entertaining
I really have to compliment Babbie on taking a potentially dry subject and making it fun. Not only is this book a very complete and easy to understand introduction to research methods, but it is also, at times, downright funny. I highly recommend this book. I gained a deeper understanding of research methods by reading The Basics of Social Research and Babbie's unique writing style made me ...

textbook
This was probably the best text book I have had to buy, and definitely worth keeping. It was very information, was perfect for the class and was easy to read. The only negative for me was that usually you can look up a topic in the back and find what page the information is on-this was not always the case with this book. It has a great companion site also. I used the current version and some in ...

An absolute classic for anyone working in the visual arts.
Back in college, two decades ago, one of my art professors required this book for every single one of his classes. He even offered to personally repay students who could not afford to keep their copy, if they promised not to sell it back to the bookstore. He told us that the best thing we could do for our careers in art was to keep this book. He was right. I've had my 2nd edition copy for twenty ...

A great start for beginner art enthusiasts
I went to a multimedia school where I took a class on the fundamentals of art & design. Understanding Art was the required text book. Little would I know that I would still be talking about Understanding Art and recommending it for years after that class! (Just don't let my teacher know that!) The book takes you throughout the history of art, starting from the earliest forms, throughout the ...
