The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn

Wonderful study of Henry VIII's most misunderstood Queen
If you are looking for a comprehensive study on Anne and her life, you need not look further. Collecting from various sources, Ives brings to life the character who turns the English monarchy on its head. She is a very tragic figure and very misrepresented in history. A woman ahead of her time, she captures Henry's heart and mind. This is a book for someone fascinated with her life as well as ...

Getting Rid of Psychological Phlogistons
Does anyone remember phlogiston? That imaginary substance once proposed as the basis of fire? Physics and chemistry got rid of that long ago, but psychologists have trouble getting rid of their phlogiston-like myths-- even professional psychologists sometimes accept psychomythology! Scott Lilienfeld and his colleagues have attacked that problem at its foundation by providing discussions of 50 ...

Straight forward, easy read that touches on all the key concepts
I usually don't get through an entire textbook, especially in a summer class, but this book was an easy read. The illustrations were great for visual learners, and example cases brought concepts to life. This is a wonderful addition to any business library and I highly recommend it.

A Guide to Econometrics

Peter Kennedy
Wiley-Blackwell, 2008
A Must Have for Econometrics Students
I should have book earlier versions of this book. Kennedy's A Guide to Econometrics has been recommended to me by a few people for a few years now, but I only got myself a copy last year (2008) when the 6th edition came out. The author does a wonderful job explaining a lot of the econometrics concepts that may have been missed by standard econometrics texts. The reason may be that the format ...

MRI Bible
When I was training at the University of Pennsylvania this book was known as our "Bible". In short, it comprehensivly covers MRI from Atoms to Zipper artifacts. The book can be a little technical at times but unfortunatly, that's MRI for you. It does a great job at explaining the basic concepts of MRI and then building on those ideas to explain the more complex ones (K-Space headaches anyone?). A ...

Ludwig Wittgenstein

Finally, a significantly revised translation
Even though Wittgenstein's German is nothing like Kant's, providing a good translation of his work is a challenge given all that one must bring into consideration. Anscombe's original translation had its merits, but it also had a number of frustrating flaws. One of the many problems with Anscombe's translation of PI is her translation of both "hinweisende Erklärung" and "hinweisende ...

A MUST resource for those caring for Cardiac surgery patients
This is a "bible" for anyone involved in the care of these patients. I refer to it on a daily basis and review several times in a day's work. Highly recommended.

an excellent introduction to immunology
This book is a perfect introduction to the field of immunology for someone who wants to understand the basic principles. It explains each key concept clearly and concisely, with valuable illustrations and examples. It also does an excellent job of showing how all the different parts of this complex system work together. There are also useful chapters explaining when and why the immune system ...
The Globalization Reader

Wiley-Blackwell, 2007
thoughtful views from noted personages
The editors put together an impressive pedigree of authors of the book's chapters. Foremost amongst these is Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations. He discusses how modern states still have a place in this era of increasing globalisation. Then Nobelist Amartya Sen asks how to judge its successes and failures. He suggests that it has much to offer. But also cautions that ...

You must read this!
I'll put it simply: If everyone in the world who was literate and of above average intelligence read this book it would dramatically change the world for the better. Ken Wilber refers to this book frequently, but although Wilber has a much broader scope (or maybe because he covers so much), Spiral Dynamics actually explains human psychology much more simply and to the point than Wilber does. I've ...
Happiness: Unlocking the Mysteries of Psychological Wealth

Wiley-Blackwell, 2008
Well-Balanced, Scientific Book on Happiness
I was always wondering if Ed Diener would get around to writing a happiness book for the popular read. For those not in the know, Ed Diener is one of the most well-known happiness researchers out there- and has been contributing to the positive psychology field for literally decades by adding piles of his own research papers to the ever growing stack of happiness studies. Based on a lot of his ...

Both conceptual and practical tools
This is an outstanding book. While naturally oriented to strategic management of health care it is also a comprehensive framework to strategic management in general. The book's layout is that of a university textbook but it is also written in an enjoyable style. I read this book as a practitioner and not a formal student and found it extremely readable and helpful. The authors present both ...

Excellent Handbook!
The Labor Progress Handbook, though a bit pricey, is an excellent book. It contains a tons of labor information and is complete with many illustrations. It's a nice compact size, which makes it easy to carry with you (great for doulas, midwives, etc.). I love it!

Animal Parasites Up Close
Veterinary Parasitology is a great reference work. Included within its pages are all known internal and external parasites of dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, goats, birds, pigs, horses and even llamas, ostriches and emus. Included is also a short chapter on parasites which may infect humans. For each parasite, there is a black and white micrograph pictured and a description of how and where each ...

Ordering for second time
I love this book! I'm a 4th year medical student and I have 3 other texts on immunology and this is the one that I keep going back to. I loaned it to a friend and it burned in a fire so here I am ordering it again. The text is simple and to the point. The diagrams are suitable and I found them detailed enough. This is my bedtime reading book.
