Great intro. to great Americans!
This book has one-page (with photos) bios of 100 famous (or should be famous) Native Americans. Some of them I've heard of, some of them have very interesting stories and I've never heard of them. Every school library should have this book and it's wonderful for homeschooling as well to give the kids a sampling of the diversity of Native American viewpoints and successes. It goes right up ...

My kids LOVE this book!
These quizzes are interesting enough for kids, yet challenging enough for adults. My family has spent many hours in the car trying to choose the right answers (most are multiple choice) to these interesting questions, but now we have finished the entire book. When is the next one coming out?!!

World Almanac Books, 1999
One of the Most Popular Books in our School Library!
Rarely is a reference book a popular title in our elementary school library. This is currently our most requested book. It's visually appealing. It's filled with facts and information that kids need for reports, but it's also filled with the kind of things kids are always curious about. It's fun for browsing as well as research. Highly recommended!

William Castle

Horror and Sci-Fi , They don't make them like that anymore.
I found this book to be one of the best autobiographies I have ever read. William Castle made every bit of his life a thorough joy to read.. It was a book that I could not put down. I took it everywhere, just to see what crazy gimmick he would come up with next. A must read. I don't want to give you any details because it would just spoil the book. This book and the two below give a true ...

Great Book, Cool Facts!
My 13 year old has loved these books for years now. Fun and informative, they are chocked full of great facts like "A Short History of Tall Buildings" and "News of the Year". There are puzzles, lists of just about every category you can think of and fact sections. Very colorful, easy to read and has a lot of great pictures. It's definately not the old boring almanacs we used to read!

Living As a Child Laborer: Mehboob's Story (Children in Crisis (World Almanac Library (Firm)).)

Develops empathy
Part of the "Children in Crisis" series, the story of 13-year-old Indian child, Mehboob, is told through an interview with Plan International's K. Kannan. Mehboob would very much like to attend school, but must work to support his sick father and family. Excellent for assisting young people in understanding how children in other parts of the world live. Good background information on the causes ...

Well-outlined Chapters makes for a great read!
This book is excellent for young adults to learn about the historical and economic impact the Panama Canal had in the world. As an enthusiastic teacher, I plan on purchasing more titles from this publisher.
The End of the Cold War (The Cold War)

Explaining the complex end of the Cold War to young students
Obviously if there is one picture that symbolizes "The End of the Cold War," then that would be the Berlin Wall coming down, and indeed on the cover of this final volume in "The Cold War" series that picture is front and center. Flanking it are pictures of President George H. W. Bush and Mikhail Gorbachev. Now, I have no problems with the latter, but if we are talking about the American ...

Coin World Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of United States Coins

Coin World
World Almanac Books, 1990
Detailed, interesting catalog of united states coins
This book has many similarities to the Red Book, but it goes into considerably more detail, alerting the reader to the rarity of many coins in high grades and adding information on rare, unusual coins such as the unique Jefferson nickel of the wartime issues struck with its mintmark in the original location. Such details make this book far superior to the Red Book, lacking only the yearly ...

Helps fill a critical gap in children's literature
As the mother of a six year-old, I'm grateful for the appearance of this series, The Life and Work of... There aren't many art books for children this age; most are simply too long and involved for young children. This series is filled with large type text, beautiful reproductions, captivating period photos and, most important, a colorful narrative that is sure to appeal to children 4-8. Although ...

Your basic green Littleton coin folder for the 50 State Commemorative Quarters
This is your basic folder for collecting your state quarters. Since it is a Littleton Custom Coin Folder it comes in their standard dark green, with "Fifty States Commemorative Quarters 1999-2008" on the cover. Obviously if you are a serious coin collector then you want a folder that will match the rest of your sets, in which case there is a good chance that they are Littleton folders as well. ...
The Beatles (Trailblazers of the Modern World)

World Almanac Library, 2001
It's Time for the Beatles!
This book will appeal largely to older children (and adults) as it is written in encyclopedia format. It compliments young readers' intelligence by "literally" bringing them up to speed in Beatle information and facts. The text is not overwhelming or overpowering and yet is not paltry. It has a good feel for young readers and the information is presented in process-friendly amounts. This is ...
Ancient Greece

World Almanac Library, 2006
A valuable resource
This book, and the others in the series are excellent material to supplement a study of ancient cultures. Actors dressed in period costumes reinact scenes set in authentic locations, to provide glimpes of daily life in ancient times. The photographs are vivid, and the book provides helpful information. A must for home-schoolers and children interested in ancient cultures!!
The Causes of the Cold War (The Cold War)
1 review
Stewart Ross
World Almanac Library, 2001
A solid introduction for kids to the causes of the Cold War
I suspect the current generation has no appreciation for what it was like to live during the Cold War, when there was a shared assumption that sooner or later things were going to go nuclear and that was the way the world was going to end. Now all that remains of such fears are references to World War III in "Star Trek" and post-apocalyptic movies like "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" and the like. ...
