Clever!
Tomie de Paola, a talented and prolific author perhaps best known for Strega Nona, has another winner here. The text is clear, packed with information, and humorous. DePaola keeps his young readers diverted by using a fictional device: a little girl is sinking in quicksand while a boy proceeds to lecture on the subject-- at length-- until the last minute. Of course, she gets her revenge in the ...

A wonderfully exciting adventure story for readers
This is Lester's first novel for young adults, but I hope not her last. The Quicksand Pony is a gripping adventure story about two young people living on the Australian coastline. Biddy's live revolves aroung a loving cattle-ranching family and Joe has lived in hiding, in the wilderness, with his emotionally distrubed mother for as long as he can remember, having no contact with the outside ...

Excellent book!
It's my level of reading. It had some funny parts and it had some scary parts. My favorite part was when they were playing a game seeing if ducks would come over the bridge. Good book for a 2nd or 3rd grader.

Another Tale Of Obsession
I've been reading a lot of Junichiro Tanizaki lately, and the most recent book I read was Quicksand. It was another love triangle penned from the point of view of an unreliable narrator, which is similar to The Key and Diary of a Mad Old Man. It is yet another story of obsession, desire, and death. It is a love triangle between a married woman, her husband, and a corrupt, manipulative femme ...

Great Book
This is an excellent book written in a narrative style rife with humor and wit. I couldn't disagree more with the reviewer that panned the book. The author admits right up front that it not a book for the ultra-experienced canyon hiker; instead the author describes the experience in a way that resonates with the mid-to-novice hiker (or even the completely inexperienced hiker) in a way that piques ...

Book Purchase
I received my book as promised, in excellent shape, got it very quickly. In fact, I got my copy before the library had their new copy. Amazon and associates have treated me with each order, very quick, very well and I love them!

Real love with clothes on. . .
Dancing on Quicksand was an incredibly inspirational book. Reading it has made me want to be a better person, listen more carefully, to love others unconditionally, to work harder at loving others where they are. In a culture where we want to get rid of anything difficult, it was refreshing to see what Marilyn Mitchell gained by sticking with David and loving him through his illness. Although ...

Only read Quicksand--wonderful book
I read this book years ago, in college. It made me much more sympathetic to the struggles of biracial (black and white) women, of the past and today -- I am an Asian-American female. The book is a beautifully written, but painful story of how the protagonist moves through her life in societies where she is kept down on many levels (socially, economically, psychologically, physically) -- ...

An unfortunately forgotten classic
Quicksand is an epic story of a tragic heroine written with taste and a great deal of wit. I can't help but wonder how the works of Nella Larsen are so criminally ignored by those interested in the study of African-American literature and the Harlem Renaissance (most texts make a brief footnote, failing to acknowledge the incredible value of this novel and its companion, the erotic and ...

One of my favorite books
The author just describes it so well that I thought I was there in Quicksand Swamp. Also when you finish the book look back at the begining, you will find tons of clues. When you start reading it is hard to stop. In other words your eyes will be stuck in that book. If you are traveling across the country bring it. I highly reconmend.

Quicksilver
A very good writer tells of her unconventional past in Europe, with the memories harvested mainly from the time between the two great wars. Ms. Bedford omits the retelling of many episodes covered in her previous books (none of which I have read) and assumes the reader knows more of history and twentieth century literature than is probably true of most current readers. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the ...

John Brunner
DAW

A dark, psychological work - utilizes Brunner's strengths.
Brunner has always tended to be the Jeremiah of the field, but (for whatever reason) often tempers his novels with an (often contrived) upbeat ending. Not here. _Quicksand_ evokes the tone of a Philip K. Dick work, but is driven home with the sharp focus that makes Brunner such a pleasure to read. It's a shame this one is hard to find - it exceeds _Stand on Zanzibar_ in many aspects. And no, ...

Enjoyable history, engaging style
I purchased this book as I was driving through the Mormon country of Dixie in southwest Utah to try to get a better understanding of Mormonism. We had just toured Pipe Springs National Monument, a fort constructed by Mormons used to house polygamous families. For non-Mormons, polygamy and Mormonism is fascinating and nearly as exotic as bedouin nomads in Morrocoo. Quicksand and Cactus is a ...
