Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul478 reviews
Jack Canfield

Scholastic Inc

Good Insight
I am not a teen anymore, but a decade ago, I was. I never went to a public school, or delt with teenage dating, drugs, suicide, sneaking around, or all of that drama. I purchased this for a special teen in my life who has had to go to public school and face all of that. I read it before I gave it to her, and I think I learned some things that enter into the "average teen's" life. I hope she ...

While it may be appropriate for small children, this book is really meaningful for 17 to 24 year old young adults.

Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type221 reviews
Doreen Cronin

Atheneum, 2000

Funny and Has Great Themes!
I am a first grade teacher and was able to use this book in many different ways. The students understood that cows can not type and actually understood the humor. I used the letters in the story to show how to write a letter and ask for something. With older students there is the theme of bartering and scarcity. I found MANY great ideas as an educator for the use of this book. It is great!

Wild Magic (Immortals #1)280 reviews
Tamora Pierce

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1997

My Favorite Series
This was my first book by Tamora Pierce I read and it's still my favorite. The characters are multidimensional and easy to relate to. I love that she continues characters across series, letting each new addition be another window into the world of Tortall. Great for all ages.

Seabiscuit: An American Legend655 reviews
Laura Hillenbrand

Ballantine Books, 2002

absolute best
It is one of the best books I have ever read. It was a fascinating story from page one all the way to the last one, and I am not even a horse person. I am very happy I stumbled across it at the library.

Harold and the Purple Crayon200 reviews
crockett johnson

weekly reader, 1957

Doesn't get much better than this.
I think this is one of those books that every child should experience. It's picture based (as opposed to text based) so there's a delightful interactive element and the child can rather tell his own tell about Harold as together they follow the purple crayon from page to page...inviting you and your child into the book to explore. So simple, it's rather Zen. And lovely. Must, must, must for ...

Brown Bear (Arabic Edition)373 reviews
Eric Carle

Mantra Lingua, 2004

Never Too Young to Learn to Read
Dr.Martin has demonstrated the beauty of repetition in developing vocabulary in young children. The colors will excite the toddler and instill a love of reading. His companion book, "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" follows the identical technique. However, as a childhood educator, Dr. Martin should know that snakes do not have ears and cannot hear. But Eric Carle's hissing boa ...

I Have Lived a Thousand Years: Growing up in the Holocaust184 reviews
Livia Bitton-Jackson

Scholastic, 1997

Draws You Right In
Reading about the holocaust is usually a very difficult thing to do. You must take in the horror, but at the same time, take in the amount of courage and hope it took for these very few survivors telling their story to survive. Some stories are not well told, while others are exceptional. Like this one. I Have Lived A Thousand Years is a brilliant story about one of the few living people who went ...

You Are Special (Max Lucado's Wemmicks)190 reviews
Max Lucado

Crossway Books, 1997

Wonderful message
My 4 year old daughter and I love this book! I love that the artwork and basic story work for younger children but the deeper message of not defining your worth by how people judge you is perfect for older children. (And a good reminder for adults, too!) It's so nice to find a book with such a positive message. We can't wait to get more from this series!

Moo Baa La La La178 reviews
Sandra Boynton

Little Simon, 1982

Silly Book Allows for Flexible Reading
This was our first Boynton book for baby. My husband and I have different storytelling styles that include whispering, singing, and so on. This book (as with most of Boynton's books) allow for a wide range of style in storytelling that can accommodate different reading adults AND the growing child. The same story can have a different narrative voice, as it were, for years to come.

Time for Bed156 reviews
Mem Fox

Harcourt Children's Books, 1993

First and favorite book for our twin girls!
We received this book as a gift and started reading it to the girls at bedtime when they were about 4 months old. The pictures are big and beautiful and as a parent you will never forget the words! My husband and I used to bet how far in the book we could get without yawning ourselves! Our girls are almost 3 now and they still love it. This book is a really wonderful gift for new parents!

Whore (Triple Crown Publications Presents)177 reviews
Tanika Lynch

Triple Crown Publications, 2006

Kept me interested and I enjoyed a lot.
I loved this book. Sure, at some parts, it was kind of whimsical, but aren't so many other books in different ways? It was graphic, realistic, and well thought out though as well. I liked it and enjoyed it. Being from Detroit, I got a big kick out of many of the references to places that really exist (yes, you can REALLY get anything from Gratiot and Bewick). Highly recommend and enjoyed.

Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (Bccb Blue Ribbon Picture Book Awards (Awards))170 reviews
Mo Willems

Hyperion Book CH, 2004

Here is what Miguel has to say about this book:
The story Knuffle Bunny by Mo Williams is about a girl who brought her bunny to school. Trixie and her friends bunnies get mixed up and they went home with the wrong bunnies. Will they ever find the right owners? This story teaches me to be nice to my friends. This story reminds me of my stuffed animal penguin. My mom took away my penguin because I was fighting with my sister just like Trixie ...

Barnyard Dance! (Boynton on Board)166 reviews
Sandra Boynton

Workman Publishing Company, 1993

A kid favorite
This book has cute illustrations and the dance "lyrics" are fun and well-written. This is one of my children's favorites and I think any child in the 1-4 range would love to have this book.
