Hit with the 3.5 year old
My son LOVES this book. We read it at least 3 times before going to bed, it's really cute, gets him to talk about being afraid to go to sleep, it's a new favorite!

The Going to Bed Book: (lap-size edition)165 reviews

Little Simon, 2004

Great
A wonderful book with great illustrations, and the brushing teeth of course is a bonus, anything to get a child to do so is always welcome. A good bedtime story.

Moo Baa La La La142 reviews

Little Simon, 1982

Love this book!
Our 9 month old loved it when he was just 6 months. I think that just about says how wonderful this book is. And the ending gives a perfect cue for the little ones to voice their opinion!

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?122 reviews
Jane Yolen

Blue Sky Press, 2000

A book for any little dinosaur fan
My three year old has been into dinosaurs for a year and is still going strong. He received this for his third birthday and it quickly became his favorite bedtime story. We always end with a kiss and he roars a goodnight. Lol. I like how the dinosaurs are named in the pictures because it not only teaches bedtime manners, but also dinosaur identification. Believe it or not, the boy can name ...

Oh, the Places You'll Go!269 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Tandem Library, 1999

Excellent, Motivational for all ages
This makes a great book. I gave one to a friend who's daughter is going to Kindergarten, I bought one for my little one and sent one to my brother who needed a little pick me up to get back on the right track. Its very motivational and I recommend it to every one of all ages.

Barnyard Dance! (Boynton on Board)151 reviews
Sandra Boynton

Workman Publishing Company, 1993

Stomp your feet!!!
What a treat to buy this for a friend's baby. My youngest child LOVED this book because as others have pointed out, it is fantastic! Just reading the words results in a great rhyme and makes you dance. You can't help it. Babies love it, toddlers love it, and parents love to read it, even the 4,999th time. It makes everyone smile. We wore the cover off and had to buy multiple copies. What a great ...

Jamberry98 reviews
Bruce Degen

Scholastic, 1990

A favorite classic!
This book was a favorite with our first child 10 years ago, and we just bought another copy for our 1-yr.-old! I love the flowing, rhyming prose, and the illustrations allow for so much discussion and interaction. As with Dr. Suess books, I find myself repeating the words throughout the day (like when we're eating berries!) I definitely recommend this book!

You Are My I Love You106 reviews
Maryann Cusimano

Philomel, 2001

not just about parent/child love...
I bought this book several years ago when Daniel Pinkwater reviewed it on Public Radio. It perfectly describes a relationship between parent and child, where the parent is the stable rock the child craves, the child the ingenuous spirit the adult has lost. I don't see it as being limited to adults and children. I have many of the same feelings about some of my adult friends. I do agree with ...

The Seven Silly Eaters61 reviews
Mary Ann Hoberman

Gulliver Books, 1997

Our favorite book!
This book has brilliant illustrations and my children love the cadence of the rhyming in the book. It is a very clever story - and the theme of picky eaters is one that resonates with every Mom I know. We have brought it to school to read to the classes and have given it as gifts to many friends. It's our favorite book. Highly recommended!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!87 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Random House Books for Young Readers, 1957

the best children's book EVER !!!
How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a classic tale about greed, materialism, and the kindness of man for his fellow man all wrapped up in one great big package! The illustrations are wonderful and the rhyming text impresses me. This is a story by Dr. Seuss that is so popular it was made into a Christmastime TV special; and it deserves every bit of recognition that it gets. (Note: this story is ...

Horton Hears a Who!62 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Topeka Bindery, 1999

A timeless masterpiece for children of all ages
Horton Hears a Who is a masterpiece. Often heralded as a book on friendship, it is much more than that. Theodor Seuss Geisel was an outspoken critic of Hitler and Mussolini, and Horton Hears a Who has been said to have been Geisel's call to support the fledgling democracy in Japan after World War II. But Horton is much more than that. Horton Hears a Who is a reminder of the importance of ...

Margaret Wise Brown

HarperFestival, 1994

just the best!
What a wonderful story! The rhyming text is a pleasure to read, and the book progresses from day to night, making it a perfect bedtime story. I've read it so many times to my five year old twins that we now know it by heart. Get it!!!

Nancy Tillman

Feiwel & Friends, 2006

Charming book
I have purchased this book several times for new parents and they have all loved it. The pictures are lovely and the words flow nicely. Very nice book to read aloud, starting when the baby can sit on your lap and listen. I predict you will love it if you buy it!

The Sneetches and Other Stories57 reviews
Dr. Seuss

Topeka Bindery, 1999

Dr. Suess is the best
at teaching good things in a fun way. This book shows that a looking different doesn't make a person less fun or likeable. It has great rhymes, & is a quick read before sleep time.

Bear Snores On92 reviews
Karma Wilson

Margaret K. McElderry, 2002

Wonderful story with rhythm and rhyme
This is a wonderful book with great rhythm and rhyme. My 3 month old already smiles when I start reading it, and I know as he gets older it will be one of his favorites, as he doesn't react this way to any other book. I also think it is a great story... VERY cute pictures!

Peek-A Who?96 reviews
Nina Laden

Chronicle Books, 2000

Eek-a!
My 13 month old loves this book. It actually inspired her fifth word! We were reading the book and as I was about to say "Peek-A... Moo", I heard this tiny "eek-a" from my daughter. I turned the page for Peek-a-Boo, and before I could say anything, she did it again - "eek-a". It's repetitious so I think it taught her to say the word. Now she loves to say "eek-a" before I turn the page. I ...

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo95 reviews
Kevin Lewis

Hyperion Book CH, 1999

My children's favorite book
This simple, rhyming book about a toy train has been read and re-read in this house. My girls absolutely MUST hear this book at least five times a day. We're on our third copy, as the first two were destroyed from overuse. My only criticism is that the book is not of more sturdy construction. If you have toddlers and pre-school age children, this book is a must have!

Sheep in a Jeep74 reviews
Nancy E. Shaw

Houghton Mifflin, 1986

Sheep in a Jeep can't be beat!
I was first introduced to this book when a friend's toddler received it for Christmas. He loved it. That was 5 or 6 years ago. Recently we found it at the library and my boys loved it so much that we bought our own. My 2yo son loves it and even the 4yo still asks to read it. It's a keeper!
