Thursday Next: First Among Sequels: A Thursday Next Novel (Thursday Next Novels (Penguin Books))54 reviews
Jasper Fforde

Penguin (Non-Classics), 2008

Send in the clones
Unlike some series heroines, our Thursday ages along the way. She also multiplies. In First Among Sequels, among her countless literary nemeses are the evil Thursday One Through Four, and the crunchy-granola Thursday Five. Of course, Thursday is facing not just herself as her own worst enemy, but such other evil agents as Dr. Worthless [...] and an entire battalion of Mrs. Danvers clones, in her ...

These Three Remain: A Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman117 reviews

Touchstone, 2007

Well done, a little dramatic
I enjoyed this series very much. It stuck to the Austen style and the essence of the characters. My only complaint is that it was a little over-dramatic with Darcy's inner pining, yearning, struggles about Elizabeth. It didn't seem terribly realistic. But I enjoyed it well enough to buy it, so I give it four stars.

Certain Girls: A Novel152 reviews
Jennifer Weiner

Atria, 2008

Solid B
Okay, like a lot of the other reviewers, I was kind of surprised at what happened to Cannie over the years, but I felt like I really started understanding what she was thinking about half-way through the book. Motherhood is a big change and it changes how you see yourself. You know, the whole "your life isn't yours anymore" thing. Still, the obsession with the bat mitzvah got so tiresome. And ...

Extras (Uglies)51 reviews
Scott Westerfeld

Simon Pulse, 2007

Extra Good
Pros: An original, believable concept, great characters. Cons: Ending is a bit of a let down. I was a bit reluctant to read this book, as I thought that Westerfield's last attempt, Specials, was the weakest in the series. Nevertheless, I am a fan of the series in general and when I saw this book in Borders, I had to pick it up. I was not disappointed. Aya, a fifteen-year-old living ...

Midnight Alley (The Morganville Vampires, Book 3)16 reviews
Rachel Caine

NAL Jam, 2007

My favorite in the series so far!
I am officially addicted to this series! If all Young Adult fiction was this well done, there would be no need for an adult section! In "Midnight Alley", Claire has pledged herself to Amalie in exchange for her Protection, and that of her friends. Amalie forces Claire into advanced placement college courses (not a bad thing) and private tutoring sessions with a crazy vampire (this could soooo ...

Dearly Devoted Dexter110 reviews
Jeff Lindsay

Vintage, 2006

Dexter - the killer you root for!
I am a huge Dexter fan. If you are discovering Dexter because of the TV show, you will be pleasantly surprised as the books do differ in the plot than the TV show! Dexter is the serial killer you root for, as he tracks down really bad guys and disposes of them in a way the police cannot!

World Without End394 reviews
Ken Follett

Dutton Adult, 2007

A great step back in time
After reading Pillars of The Earth and enjoying it immensely, I had to buy Mr. Follets second offering. I truly liked how the first book laid flat while reading it. The second book, after a couple hundred pages also has this nice feature, even though it is a hard cover and over 1000 pages. It is amazing to me that the human race has continued when you read how they only bathed once a year. I ...

Earth: The Sequel: The Race to Reinvent Energy and Stop Global Warming51 reviews
Fred Krupp, Miriam Horn

W. W. Norton, 2008

Alternative Energy Information
Earth: The Sequel: The Race to Reinvent Energy and Stop Global Warming, is an excellent book and should be read by all Americans. It gives a good overview of the different types of alternative energy sources. It is a valuable resource for all of us to better understand the issues surrounding energy and global warming.

The Darcys & theBingleys: A Tale of Two Gentlemen's Marriages to Two Most Devoted Sisters6 reviews
Marsha Altman

Sourcebooks Landmark, 2008

Funny, great plot, wonderful character development
I have been following Marsha Altman's writings for awhile now and - without a doubt- her stories along the post-Pride and Prejudice line are the best out there! I have read other stories in the same field and find that they can only hold your attention for about half the book. Marsha not only keeps the plot going with very fun twists and humor, but her characters grow and develop in wonderful ...

Love, Stargirl39 reviews
Jerry Spinelli

Knopf Books for Young Readers, 2007

A Teacher's Perspective
This piece of CRF features a young girl who is quirky, wise beyond her years, and homeschooled. She has moved away from her first love and is writing a journal which is, in fact, a letter to him. In the process of fitting into a new place, Stargirl becomes a bit of a celebrity in her new town because of her outstanding virtues and wisdom. I love Stargirl! She is the girl I always wanted to ...

An Assembly Such as This: A Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman (Fitzwilliam Darcy Gentleman)184 reviews
Pamela Aidan

Touchstone, 2006

Come on, admit it .....
....you've always been curious about the inside world of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. You've wondered what he was thinking here, what was behind his reasoning there, and just how passionate was he about his love for Miss Elizabeth Bennet? Pamela Aiden's unique and clever twist on the intimate moments of the life of Mr. Darcy has become possibly the most satisfying and enjoyable parody of Pride and ...

Mr. Darcy's Decision: A Sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice4 reviews
Juliette Shapiro

Ulysses Press, 2008

I enjoyed this the first time I read it as Excessively Diverted
I was looking forward to this new Shapiro book as I so enjoyed reading Excessively Diverted, so much so, that I just re-read it in anticipation of her Mr Darcy's Decision. Imagine my disappointment, when UPS delivered the same book sans typos and original title-- but with improved cover art. Still, I will say, since Excessively Diverted, is fresh in my mind, that I did very much enjoy this ...

Darcy & Elizabeth: Nights and Days at Pemberley (Pride & Prejudice Continues)83 reviews
Linda Berdoll

Sourcebooks Landmark, 2006

Great Continuation - Ended Somewhat Abrupt
I was always very leery of any "sequel" to P&P as I was concerned the characters, tone and story-lines would not do justice to the original. However, I found Linda's books very consistent with those characters. I loved Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife. I enjoyed this book as well and was left wanting more. My main concern was that towards the end, things were wrapped up rather quickly. Wickham's justice ...

Rule of Two (Star Wars: Darth Bane)53 reviews
Drew Karpyshyn

Del Rey, 2007

A Must Read Sequel!
This is a sequel to the best Star Wars book of all-time and, since it continues what the other book started, is a total must-read! It is even darker than the first book, and does an excellent job continuing an already-awesome story. Also, let me say that I am very picky and in general don't like most of the Star Wars books. Taking that into consideration, you should absolutely buy this book!

You Suck: A Love Story131 reviews
Christopher Moore

Harper Paperbacks, 2008

Review of You Suck (the audio version)
I think I started this on the wrong foot... You Suck was recommended to me, but I've never read anything by Christopher Moore, so I didn't realize that this was a sequel until about halfway through. It works just fine as a stand-alone story, but I'll definitely be picking up Bloodsucking Fiends. This was one of the funniest books I've heard in a long time. It's vampires, it's romance, it's ...

Mr. Darcy Presents His Bride: A Sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice41 reviews
Helen Halstead

Ulysses Press, 2007

A Very Good Sequel- at Last!
I have read several of the P&P sequels and find this to be the most faithful to the characterizations of the original. To be sure, there are differences as will occur in any sequel, but she manages to find the 'weak link' in P&P's story and uses it to its fullest. Probably it is not even something you particularly noticed in the original but, once addressed, you immediately recognize it and ...

Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride and Prejudice Continues461 reviews
Linda Berdoll

Sourcebooks Landmark, 2004

It really rates less than 1 star
While reading this book I suffered from an eye injury, which was caused by excessive rolling of my eyes in disbelief and horror (e.g. using a mirror to watch themselves having sex; Elizabeth and her fascination with Darcy's boots, Elizabeth being kidnapped, etc.). At first, I thought the book must be a parody but after some investigation I discovered it was a "serious" attempt to further the ...

Duty and Desire: A Novel of Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman (Fitzwilliam Darcy Gentleman)152 reviews
Pamela Aidan

Touchstone, 2006

Delightfully Entertaining!!!
I found this book a wonderful read. I loved the new characters in this book. My favorite was Darcy's gentleman, Fletcher. He was very entertaining! I also love Lord Brougham and Darcy's cousin. I like their attitudes. They showed a great contrast to Darcy's personality. I would love to read more about Lord Brougham and Fletcher. I think Fletcher was hilarious!
