Still Alice (Wheeler Large Print Book Series)285 reviews
Lisa Genova

Wheeler Publishing, 2009

Very moving, unbelievable voice on Alice
This is an extremely compelling novel, written in a sensitive and compassionate style that allows you to feel what it's like to be diagnosed and live with Alzheimer's disease. Prior to reading this when Alzheimer's was mentioned my thoughts and sympathy were always focused on the family, not the victim of this terrible disease, now my heart will go out to Alice. The writing has such a personal ...

Seabiscuit: An American Legend (G K Hall Large Print Nonfiction Series)647 reviews
Laura Hillenbrand

Thorndike Press, 2001

The Book Bolts Out Of The Gate & Never Slows Down
My interest in horse racing was right up there with watching paint dry. The movie Seabiscuit was very well done and I purchased the paperback in conjunction with the theatrical release of the movie as well as the gushy reviews Ms. Hillengrand's book had received. And then there it sat... gathering dust on my bookshelf for nearly six years. Don't be an idiot like me and rush out to get this ...

October Sky (The Coalwood Series #1)548 reviews
Homer H. Hickam

Fourth Estate Ltd, 1999

Terrific Book......Part Of A Tradition
I decided to pick up Rocket Boys after seeing "October Sky" with my son. October Sky, (OS) is one of the movies that was included as part of a tradition my son and I had started when he was a youngin', and still continuing today. October Sky is what I refer to as a "Dad" movie, or any movie that was either about, or included a sub plot that reflected a relationship between a father and his son. ...

Alanna The First Adventure586 reviews
Tamora Pierce

Random House, 1997

Love it
I first read this book a long time ago in middle school and I still have the full series both Lioness and the Immortals they are no joke bound with duck tape because over the last 11 years or so I have read them soo many times that they are indeed falling apart and I just had to replace my In the Realm of the Gods copy because half the book fell out. Once my kids get a little bit bigger these ...

Redeeming Love (G K Hall Large Print Book Series)657 reviews
Francine Rivers

G K Hall & Co, 1993

Redeeming Love is amazing!
I read a lot of books, and this one is definitely in my top 10 favorites. It is a story based on the unconditional love that Hosea shows to Gomer in the Bible. Amazing! My friends all read it & some of them read it twice. It is an unbelievable story of grace & forgiveness, something that we don't see enough of today. I highly recommend it.

The Help (Thorndike Press Large Print Basic Series)1179 reviews
Kathryn Stockett

Thorndike Press, 2009

Amazing
This book was the best I've read in quite some time. Stockett captures the compexities and intimacies of the realtionships between white and black women in a way that is so real. I am not a professional book reviewer. I just know a good, well written, honest book when I read one...and this is it! It is well worth your time!

Lucky Man: A Memoir227 reviews
Michael J. Fox

Hyperion, 2002

Yup.
Here's how pervasive the Michael J. Fox phenom has been: I saw only one episode of Family Ties, was dragged by my peer group to Back to the Future, and have never seen Spin City. Yet I still knew, before getting this book, That MJF was from Canada, the names of his wife and each of his four children, and that he had Parkinson's. I told myself I was reading this book for the serious, noncurable ...

Mattimeo (Redwall (Recorded Books))214 reviews
Brian Jacques

Recorded Books, 2003

EXCELLENT! 10/10!
This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!

SOUL FORGE, THE (Dragonlance Saga)221 reviews
Margaret Weis

Wizards of the Coast, 1998

Absolutely amazing
If any fantasy novel deserves 5 stars it is this. I had never heard of Raistlin or Dragonlance before I read this, and it got me completely hooked. This is up there with LoTR, although obviously much shorter

Value for money
I recommend this book to anyone who want a very clear view of how different exercises work different muscles. Great addition to anyone's collection.

This has to be one of, if not the best book I have ever read! I am on book two of this series and I love it. Joanna Campbell is a great author!

Across the Wide and Lonesome Prairie: The Oregon Trail Diary of Hattie Campbell, 1847 (Dear America Series)167 reviews
Kristiana Gregory

Scholastic, 2002

Early Americans Faced Many Perils!
I purchased this book for my middle school daughter. Boy did it show how hard life was for early Americans traveling across the Oregon Trail. This book is a great way to show today's kids how easy they really have it!

The Forgotten Soldier: The Classic WWII Autobiography (Brassey's Commemorative Series WWII)162 reviews
Guy Sajer

Brassey's, 1990

Sobbering and Balanced
Echos of Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front" - this book's actual accounts will leave the reader mentally drained. The graphic reality of combat on the Eastern front are jaw dropping. Combat experiences are conveyed expertly without self-praise nor self-loathing - just the facts and the struggle. Politics are abscent. The story shows a man's journey and his witness to the horrors of ...

The Book of Atrus (Myst, Book 1)197 reviews
Rand Miller, Robyn Miller, ...

Hyperion, 1995

Myst: The Book of Atrus
It really seems only fitting that a video game about books would have a series of books published in its name. For some reason when such books were first coming out I was sort of skeptical about their quality. I truly am glad I overcame this and decided to pick up the Myst books. I was an early enough adopter to be able to get all the hardcover texts and they are all beautifully designed. ...

The Battle of the Labyrinth (Thorndike Press Large Print Literacy Bridge Series)152 reviews
Rick Riordan

Thorndike Press, 2008

A LABYRINTH OF FUN
I couldn't put this book down. It took me about 4 hours to read it, and I loved every minute on it! The character were filled with the usual attractiveness that he always give them, only with whole new scenarios. The myths were wonderful, and the story was great!

How to Survive the Loss of a Love (G.K. Hall Large Print Book Series)166 reviews
Melba Colgrove, Harold H. Bloomfield, ...

G K Hall & Co, 1992

This is a remarkable tool for healing
I first read this book when my father died suddenly at the age of 47. I was 21. I have read this again and again, when a beloved dog died, when a boyfriend broke up with me. I have recommended it time and time again. It is one of the first things that comes to my mind when I know of someone being faced with a loss. It is beautifully written, and lets you know you are not alone in your sorrow and ...

Time for Bed (Big Book Series)151 reviews
Mem Fox

Hazar Publishing, 1999

Best Bedtime Story Ever!
We checked this book out from the library and then we just had to have it. My daughter (1 year old) loves this book so much she kisses every page and brings it to us to read all the time. The illustrations of the mama and baby animals are beautiful. The language is soothing and has a nice rhythm and rhyme to it perfect for little kids. Each page has one sentence so their attention doesn't ...

Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things That Go (Golden Bestsellers Series)160 reviews
Richard Scarry

Golden Books Publishing Company, 1974

Toddler Boys love it
This book was an old time favorite of my now 17 year old son. Several months ago, I took it out for my 2 year old nephew. He was hooked after the first viewing. He had several favorite pages and since he is at the age of loving all things transportation, he asked for it over and over again. I gave him my son's copy until I purchased a copy for him a few weeks ago. He calls it "his new book" and ...

Tomorrow, When the War Began (The Tomorrow Series #1)158 reviews
John Marsden

Laurel Leaf, 1996

so exciting!!
John Marsden has done an excellent job creating a great and exciting story about friendship, war, and love. I have read all the books in this series and I was so mad when it ended. You feel so close to the charactors that when it's over, its heartbreaking. I wish I could meet every one of the charactors on the book. This series truly has changed my life. I've learned so much and it has changed ...
