A Fine Line...
Baxter's city council voted to let Thompson Tire Corporation build a plant in town. Most of the residents were glad about it. Some were not. Sheila Paxton was the company's lawyer. Sheila made a move on Charlie Kirby, Baxter's mayor, even though she knew he was happily married and had seven kids. Charlie seriously considered it, was very tempted, and refused the offer. When Sheila suddenly died, ...

Handy and dense
This, the Fourth Edition of The Economist's handy publication, is not a dictionary in the ordinary sense of the term. There is no pronunciation guide and most of the entries are phrases, not single words, e.g., "circular flow of money," "durable goods," "Gibrat's law," "marginal utility," "theory of games," etc. The "definitions" are more like explanations, some of them quite elaborate. Nobel ...

Wow!!!
Normally I don't post reviews for books, but I wanted to for this one. I found myself with tears rolling down my face in several parts of this book. I have read the Redemption Series and all the previous books in the Firstborn Series but this is definitely my favorite so far. I always keep these books coming and reserve the next 1 or 2 from the library as I'm reading each book, so I don't have to ...

Someday by Karen Kingsbury
Karen Kingsbury is one of the best Christain fiction authors I have ever read. I have read all of the books about the Baxter family, the author really captures your interest in each member of the Baxter family. She takes each character and walks you through their problems and how they all come to know Christ (or renew their faith) and lean on him to help them through their lives. I have read ...

The entire redemption series is amazing. It touches a woman's heart and soul. I cried and rejoiced along with the Baxter family. I recommend this to all Christian fiction readers.

Mothers of Boys -- Share in the Joy
From the moment I discovered Prudence Mackintosh in Thundering Sneakers (first of the trilogy), I fell in love with her style of writing. She shares the joys of boys along with her own cherishing of the moments of parenting them. Retreads will make you laugh until you cry as you share her wonderful observations of her own 3 boys in those "tween years" where they are too big to hold and way too ...

Moved me to tears
Rarely does a book move me to tears but this one did. This book was well written. I though Elizabeth and her family demonstrated great courage during this time of adversity. Not all was sad in the book. I don't want to give too much away for those who haven't read the book yet but you will be pleased at some of the ways God is working miracles in the lives of some of the other Baxter clan. ...

Wow-- the most informative book ever
Words cannot explain how great this book is. It goes back and tells you about the great Mastiffs of the past, how they were bred, and how modern Mastiffs came to be. The photos alone are a marvel. This is a treasure that never should have been put out of print. It is the kind of book that Mastiff lovers and breeders will be reading forever.

good book
My 3rd grade son read this aloud within our homeschool history program and we enjoyed it immensely. I thought it very telling of native american life. Although I do not posess the credentials to judge thoroughly it seemed honest and devoted to passing on an authentic story of Miami indians. Needs a fluent reader, but the story could be understand by children ages 4 and up. Some scary moments ...

developmental theory made clear
Baxter Magolda uses exerpts from her own longitudinal research to clearly introduce four "ways of knowing" that students generally progress through during the college years. The quotes (with further interpretation by the author) allow the reader to follow a handful of students and hear them relate, in their own words, the ways in which they make sense of the world. Baxter Magolda further ...

The big picture
In reading the Bible, it is easy to 'miss the forest for the trees'. Baxter's book is perhaps the most insightful and useful reference on 'what the Bible is all about'. This scholarly, yet extremely readable, work will be appreciated by both the new-comer as well as the accomplished Bible student. It provides a useful framework as to how the various parts of the Bible fit together, and helps ...

Fame, Forgiven, Found, Family and Forever......
I hope that as you read this book, "Forever", you have read the four books that precede it. I dearly LOVED this series. I couldn't put any of the books down for more than a moment. The characters became as real people to me as they did to the author. One thing I found interesting to my own value system is that most other "Christian fiction authors" I have read, are quite squeaky clean i.e. no ...

Very Useful Resource - Career Exploration/Job Entry
When I picked up this book, I was planning a career change with a goal to work in some sort of therapy or counseling setting. But, I wasn't sure - what is the difference between psychology, counseling and social work, with respect to my goals? I had read some books on psychology jobs, and some on social work jobs, but none had addressed this. I picked up this book, which gives a great discussion ...

A great book
In the world of "The Web" series, people are hooked up to the internet by using suits that take their minds to the web. Sarah is one of the many users on the Web, and on world peace day takes a friend and her annoying little brother on a trip to the Gulliver Zone, a virtual magical kingdom. However, after meeting a small race of people called lilliputians, Sarah and her brother are shrunk down to ...
