The Immortals, More great books!
Again some of the best books I have ever read!! Another good quartet after the Song of the Lioness Quartet! (The next ones, Kel's and Aliane'a are good too! Protector of the Small and The Lioness's Daughter) Daine's enchanting life and her "Wild Magic" powers bring her to a most interesting learning experience along with her teacher Numair Saliman (formally Arram Draper). These books are so very ...

Still a cherished favorite
I first read these books aeons ago when I was in middle school. Now, being 26, I still secret my copies among my much more mature literary fare and pull them out to read every so often when I can't sleep or need an instant pick-me-up. I can't tell you how many times I've read this series, but my paperback copies are all in sad need of replacement. I want to buy a set to tuck away to read to my ...

Enlightening for Parents of Gay Offsprings
After reading Benn's book, I am much more aware of what young gay children are going through at the hands of our churches, the society at large, and (God forbids) at home! As an African American woman, I have endured oppression as long as I can remember by our society, our church, and our men. I have been too busy thinking about my own pain to give much thought to the pain of our young (and ...

solid handbook
this is a solid, almost academic, handbook. it's points you toward the things you need to figure out but you'll still need to get additional information on your local regulations. personnaly, it discouraged me from opening a buisness at this time.

A true wisdom book
This is a practical book, dealing with all aspects of caring for elders, from emotional nuances to financial realities. Although my parents died over a decade ago and the time when I will need care is hopefully more than a decade in the future, I found it a very absorbing read. The wisdom, warmth, and humor which the author brings to the subject of eldercare is really universal. She has seen ...

The best for a diverse group of guests
I am a "haggadah hoarder"! I have bought them ALL and personally use many of them for pre-seder preparation from year to year. And yet, THIS version is the one I set my table with -- it is attractive and easy to read, the gorgeous, colorful photos and illustrations thru-out make each page a delight. The questions and BRIEF commentary generate discussion. Every section one needs for a "proper" ...

Favorite Christmas Gift
My 3 1/2 year old son received this as a Christmas present. He wore the cape non-stop for about 2 weeks. We read the book at least once a week even now and he's got the cape on today (Feb 20). Most Christmas presents come and go, but this one has ignited my child's imagination like no other.

The Young Wizards Set of Three
Diane Duane has added to this series over the years, and as of this writing she has written seven books in this series, with an eight in the works. The scope of the books rivals Harry Potter, a much later series, in many aspects, but the mythologies and the rules are completely different. The first three books are "So You Want to Be a Wizard," where we meet Kit (Christopher) Rodriguez and Nita ...

Modesty Blaise is one of the most delightful characters in adventure fiction.
It is hard to say whether the Modesty Blaise novels or the Modesty Blaise comic strips are better, but the lucky reader doesn't have to choose. Read both. The comic strips have been reprinted by Titan Books, Ken Pierce Books, Manuscript Press, and in Comics Revue magazine, and now the novels are being reissued. Also highly recommended are the books Peter O'Donnell wrote under the pseudonym ...

Into the Pit
Jane Yolen gave the old dragon legends a facelift in the Pit Dragon Trilogy, a trio of sci-fantasy novels set on a faraway prison planet. There's nothing fantastical or pretty about the world she creates here -- it's gritty, dusty, raw and very dangerous. The action takes place on the planet of Austar IV, a miserable desert planet inhabited by drug-filled weeds, slave "bonders" and their ...
