Kids eat this stuff up!
I am a third grade teacher and every year the children in my class beg for "scary" stories for read aloud time. Well, this year I did some searching for something beyond Goosebumps and the like (which I find to be rather poor literature) and this book has been a hit! Be warned, however, it will REALLY scare some kids. But on balance, not one regretted me reading some of the stories to them. They ...

Excellent Read!
Having seen the movies I was skeptical about a prequel. However, from the introduction to the satisfying ending I enjoyed meeting the characters, reading the reasonably fictionalized historical character's activities and exchanges with the Gates boys, and following the clues to the resolution. This is family entertainment at its best and I look forward to the next installment. Hurry!

Fantastic Book
My 10 year old daughter first checked this out of the library twice & still wanted to check it out again. I logged on to Amazon & found it, bought it as a surprise & she looks at it & reads it at least weekly. If you want a GREAT kids book on egyptology this is it!

Exquisite Work, Thanks Matt Wagner!
I had forgotten how much I enjoy when an author writes and draws his own book. I can't help but feel that Wagner really poured his heart into Trinity. It's beautiful to look at and the story was an awful lot of fun. I don't know the strict definition of comic book vs. graphic novel, but this goes on my shelf with Batman: The Cult, Superman: Birthright, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, We3 and ...

A book that gets the family together
Our town chooses a book each winter, which they call the "One Book, One Community Project". We just moved here so this is our 1st and I am very excited about the project. As soon as I heard about it, I went to the library and checked out the book. Even before my 3rd grader started it in school. The book is so engaging and really gets your imagination juices flowing. I really am enjoying the ...

I was given this book when I was seven and have since cherished it for its beauty and sensitivity. It is a wonderful read aloud book for ages 6-8 and mostly 7 that is inspiring both for children and adults alike. Enjoy!

Patchwork Girl leaves you in stitches
This book marks Baum's return to the world of Oz after trying to quit his fabled story land in an attempt to muse upon new subjects--thankfully, it was an unsuccessful attempt, and he came back with delightful vengeance in this remarkable story. "The Patchwork Girl of Oz" is one of Baum's longer Oz books, and it is also very plot-driven, somewhat of an exception for him. Luckily, this plot--the ...

I got it for my friend's 10 years old daughter for Christmas, and right away my 2.5 and 6 years old kids got into this book and were amaized by the pictures and fun facts. I would recommend this book for any age, I guess.

Entertaining Resource for WW Fans
(Note: Same Edition, published by DK has different cover art) Beatty and DC have written & compiled a lighthearted, but devoted encyclopedia chronicling the rich history of the latest incarnation of the Amazonian Princess. I am an older fan of the nostalgic Golden and Silver Age versions (which are respectfully included and acknowledged here), so it was more of a detached learning experience ...

Great Summer Read
Come on people, of course this isn't classic literature, but it is fast paced, easy to follow and full of adventure. A great read for the beach or a rainy day. It reminds me of Clive Cussler and Jack DuBrul, 2 of my all time favorites. Give it a chance, you won't be sorry. I am in the middle of "The 6 Sacred Stones" now, and it is just as good.

Not your typical book of lists
I found this interesting book via a book club I belong to. I've used it extensively in research for debating as well as writing fanfiction. Encyclopedic in nature (it covers a wealth of subjects from history to science to the arts) and intelligently written, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys learning.

A four generation read aloud treat
My father heard these stories as a child. He read them to me. I read them to my kids and my grandkids. The vocabulary, the cadences, the varied plots and the sheer magic of these tales is timeless. The poems at the beginning of each chapter are related to the hours. Kids insist that you read them too. Pyle always sees to it that bullies, evil magicians, cheaters and older nasty siblings ...

What If God Was One of Us??
But, He/She is!! And that's the point of these radiant, glowing, fun and oh, so totally enlightening poems. I read the book in one sitting and then read it aloud to my husband. He's not a poetry person, but even he loved these poems. Here are the titles to some of the poems: God Went To Beauty School God Got a Dog God Got in a Boat God Bought a Couch God Made Spaghetti God ...

If you want to only read one book on the Salem Witch Trials this is the book for you. the book is addressed to teens so its a quick and easy read. this book is a very factual look at a very troubbling and mysteriuos time. there are alot of unawnsered questions that many historians guess at or write about their own personal judgements. the cool thing about this book is that it presents the ...
