Keeping the Cutting Edge: Setting and Sharpening Hand and Power Saws3 reviews
Harold H. Payson

Wooden Boat Publications, 1985

excellent guide to sharpening
Payson's book is an excellent guide to sharpening all types of saws, from hand to table saw blades. Also covered are old fashioned saws for cutting down trees and bucking them. Japanese and carbide tipped blades are about the only types not covered, but that does not detract from the books utility. Clearly written and illustrated, highly recommended.

Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Sharpening (Complete Illustrated Guide)7 reviews
Thomas Lie-Nielsen

Taunton, 2004

Lie-Neilsen Guide to Sharpening
This is a very practical book on sharpening well illustrated which covers almost any sharp tool used in woodworking that has an iron cutting edge (not carbide). Unfortunately I got a defective copy (with some pages misplaced) which Amazon promptly replaced at no charge.

Tool & Cutter Sharpening (Workshop Practice)1 review
Harold Hall

Trans-Atlantic Publications, Inc., 2007

Harold Hall Fan
This book is aimed at the home workshop metal worker, who does not have access to sophisticated sharpening machinery, and likes to make his/her own jigs and devices. The writing is clear and understandable, as one would expect from an author who regularly contributes to metal working magazines. The print, photographs and drawings are smallish, but this 132 page book has a surprisingly large ...

Sharpening the Warriors Edge: The Psychology & Science of Training17 reviews
Bruce K. Siddle

PPCT Research Publications, 1995

Great Resource
Great resource for anyone involved, either as a participant or trainer, in high stress activities. Siddle keeps the focus limited to the relationship between survival stress, escalating heart rates and combat performance but he does an outstanding job of explaining and demonstrating how they interact. Highly recommended.

Sharpening the Focus of the Church (Biblical renewal series)2 reviews
Gene A. Getz

Victor Books, 1984

Straight And Solid
Getz' book is sorely needed in a day when human opinion and experience as to "what works" has supplanted the Biblical directives as to what the church should be according to the Word of God. Getz presents a balanced and thorough study of what church is about, the evangelism of the lost (in the world) and the edification of believers (in our gatherings). He presents principles drawn directly from ...

Sharpening Strategic Intelligence: Why the CIA Gets It Wrong and What Needs to Be Done to Get It Right2 reviews
Richard L. Russell

Cambridge University Press, 2007

Why Analysis?
It is difficult to imagine a better qualified individual to dissect the institutional being of CIA than Richard L. Russell. He is a 17 year veteran of that agency and is now a distinguished academic. Russell is unique among the many authors writing about CIA in that he was a real `working stiff' (intelligence analyst if you prefer) who actually observed and pondered what was going on around and ...

The Razor Edge Book of Sharpening21 reviews
John Juranitch

Razor Edge Systems, Inc., 2000

Old book but very informative - shave your legs and slice that onion
I like this book. I only give it 4 stars cause it is old and not very pretty, but it is very useful. It gave me a new perspective on grinding and sharpening. I am sure there are others, but this works for me. The book outlines and discusses various thoughts on sharpening and picks up apart all kinds of traditional notions that you keep running into when researching sharpening on the web. Yes, it ...

Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop CS2 (Real World)18 reviews
Bruce Fraser

Peachpit Press, 2006

Wow, a real book for professionals... FINALLY
As a photographer and owner of a photo-restoration business, this was a very important topic for me. I regularly get out of focus images to restore and often the basic sharpening methods in Photoshop simply aren't sufficient. There is a lot of theory in the beginning of the book, which is good; helpful especially if you don't have a solid understanding of digital sharpening, but then comes the ...

Sharpening with Waterstones: A Perfect Edge in 60 Seconds8 reviews
Ian Kirby

Linden Publishing, 1998

Sharpening this way works, it's quick and it's almost fun
One of the unfortunate facts about cutting tools is that they need to have a sharp edge to work well but using them takes away that edge. This is a wonderful little book by an expert woodworker explaining how he puts back the edge quickly so he can go back to work right away. It describes every detail including inconvertible facts as well as the author's many opinions. It's a complete system; ...

Woodworker's Guide to Sharpening: All You Need to Know to Keep Your Tools Sharp1 review
John English

Fox Chapel Publishing, 2008

An excellent sharpening resource
John English provides here a most thorough treatment of the vagaries of sharpening one's woodworking tools. I've read articles and watched videos here and there, but none have been so clear on the process and the techniques involved as this book is. Definitely worth the price!

Sharpening and Tool Repair (Art of Woodworking)1 review

Time-Life Books, 1994

Absolutely wonderful
A very clear and comprehensive introduction to sharpening and maintaining hand and power tools -- chisels, scrapers, drill bits, rotary saw blades, band saw blades, etc. The diagrams and pictures are wonderfully presented and are useful in gaining and understanding the methods described. Well worth the inexpensive price!!!
