highly recommened
I highly recommend this book to those parent who want to raise thier children in a godly home. The 'heart' is so important. This is a must for learning how to discipline your children. The section on spanking does seem a bit extreme, however.

Definitely a Keeper!
This book is great! Some reviews have said that it promotes spanking, but the bottom line is that if you don't spank you are doing your child a disservice and that's exactly what this author is saying in her book. She doesn't say that a parent should be abusive and just spank for no reason or just make up a reason to beat their child. Rather she admonishes parents to teach the child the correct ...

Excellent book - even those who don't spank can glean much
I first read this book while a teacher at a Christian preparatory school. It was recommended by my supervisor, the Head of Lower School. It changed the way I dealt with my students and behavior issues that arose each day. I loved learning how to focus on the heart and using different styles and types of communication, depending on the situation and heart of the child. It is challenging to ...

A manifesto of love from the beyond
Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "The Cost of Discipleship" is the kind of book so fundamental to the daily challenges of our lives as followers of Christ that one might compare it to cold water in the long, winding desert of 21st century civilization. Bonhoeffer knew that very few Christians actually knew what it meant to claim allegiance to God, or to Christian values: how unforgivingly opposed the ...

It made our Retreat a Hit!
We chose this book as a foundation for our Women's Retreat. Not only was the theme a springboard for our speakers and breakout sessions, it added inspiration for the treats and decorations. We were pampered as Princesses and we found out how much our Daddy, The King adores us! Low self-esteem is a huge problem for many women, and it was an important issue to tackle. I'm so glad we went back ...

Well Worth the Long Wait
Instructing a Child's Heart has been a long time coming. It was thirteen years ago that its predecessor, Shepherding a Child's Heart, was published. It was thirteen years ago that Tedd Tripp published his last book. It was no lost on me that many of the book's lessons and anecdotes now focus on the author's grandchildren. Thirteen years is a long time by any measure! Instructing a Child's ...

Useful, Positive Booklet - Nothing abusive
This useful booklet gives parents helpful questions to ask their children as they encourage them to put off bad behavior and put on good behavior. Ginger encourages parents to do this gently and wisely. As she says in the introduction, "Wise words are to be spoken with a loving heart and gentle voice." There is nothing whatsoever in this helpful booklet about physical discipline of any kind. ...

A deserved classic
New York-based writer Ralph Parker is sent back to his hometown of Hohman, Indiana, to write an article about small-town life. Instead, he winds up in a bar run by a childhood friend, trading stories and reminiscing about what it was like to grow up in Hohman during the Great Depression, warts and all. Most of you are probably already familiar with at least parts of this book, even if you don't ...

Decent beginner book
I've just finished the end of the book and I will say it's not too bad. A little background about me before my full review, I'm a web developer with a design background, so I've done a lot of front-end design work for clients but I've also worked a bit of the back end with PHP, and Classic ASP. .NET was new to me and never worked with my preferred IDE, (ahem Dreamweaver) past .net 2.0, ...

Keeps you wanting more
I just finished the third book of this series, having read all three since I bought them less than a week ago. It's not that I really have the time to read that much but I couldn't put these books down. I literally put one book down and picked up the next. I'm sad now that I don't have another to pick up until September when the fourth book comes out. I'm pleased with the way they were ...

Great message and to the point
Our executive team was asked to read this book and we each were given a chapter to present. I am by no means the fastest reader in the world, but I breezed through this in less than 2 hours. I believe the message and directions in this book are the true path of a leader. I have since passed on copies to the leaders in my deptment and have received nothing but positive feedback.

No Shame in This - Awesome Read!
After reading this book, you will simply start with asking yourself questions about your faith in Jesus Christ. This self-analysis is befitting. Do you know Jesus? Do you want to get to know Him? Fay makes it plain and simple. In the 70's people used to ask questions like; Are you saved or not? Do you want to go to hell or not? However, Fay makes the questioning aspect a bit more compassionate ...

Paul David Tripp's book starts by describing three main triggers of mid-life malaise - mortality, regret, and broken dreams - and then walks through practical and biblically-based strategies for understanding, healing, hope, and renewal. He shares some unique insights, such as the purpose and misuse of our God-given abilities of imagination, and society's failure to define the various stages ...

Former shepherd adds new meaning to a familiar psalm
The 23rd. Psalm is certainly one of the most familiar passages in the Bible. Despite that fact, author W. Phillip Keller adds new depth and meaning to it as he shares his experiences as a shepherd as they relate to Psalm 23. He shows us that a good shepherd is sufficient for all of a sheep's needs if he will but follow and obey him. He describes how a shepherd sets up a cast sheep (one who has ...

Theatre Teachers: This Is What You Need
This book is formatted so easily, it took me MUCH less time than I thought it would to prepare a unit on reader's theatre for my class. I used it for my high school theatre class so they wouldn't have to concentrate on large vocabularies, but rather to deliver the story in a simple, easy way. It was a HUGE success of a project and this book made it possible. It tells you how long each story ...
