someone who actually got it
I feel a little miffed at all the Stephanie hate going on in these reviews. Of course it's self-absorbed, it's a memoir! Who is she supposed to write about? I read this during my own divorce and there were times when I wanted to smack all my friends in the face and lock myself in my room and read this book. I found it funny, insightful (of course there's insecurity and self-doubt in a divorce, ...

I picked this book up at a bookstore and after reading a few pages had to buy it. Now I am buying my fourth copy. Whever I mention this book to a friend, they inevitably want to borrow it...and it never comes home to me again! What does that tell you? -- The authors are onto something :) And everyone seems to appreciate what they have to say. I learned a lot from this little book, and ...

Funny...
William Henry Devereaux Jr., approaching 50, is the English chair of English at small town West Central Pennsylvania University. Budget cuts lead to fear of layoffs among the tenured university staff. This is one of the funniest serious novels that I have read where Russo humorously captures the life of academia and small town America. The novel's essence is captured brilliantly in Tom De ...

Excellent exercises for discovering your money downfalls
Although this book is written for African American women, I was able to relate much of their background to my own family's history. I especially loved the exercise where she has you do a family history on your parents and grandparents to see where a lot of your "beliefs" come from. I highly recommend this book.

Gets To The Point
I ran into this Straight A's book after finishing my pediatrics class. I wish I had discovered it sooner! It provides material in outline form, getting rid of the excess verbosity. It also puts important concepts in the margin of the book, so you can quickly get the essential ideas. In addition, everything was in synch with my lecture notes. So not only is it a good summary, but it also ...

Amazing!
This is an amazing book that gives real techniques and tricks to optimize your time spent studying. The author's techniques, ranging from time management to notes-taking, are extremely efficient and thoroughly explained. The time management technique itself is worth the books price: it is so useful that I use it for everything, even if it is not related to my studies. Unlike most theoretical ...

Straight from the guts
Jack Who? People who are in college at this moment might not know the name. Does that really matter? No! This book is about Jack Welch and his amazing story up the ladder of corporate America. It teaches us about guts, hard work and true dedication. It actually reads like 'Once upon a time in America' featuring Robert de Niro. As Jack begins his journey with childhood memories, it shows how ...

Great book for teens
This is a great book for helping teens cope with the loss of a loved one, whether it was a close friend or family member. The book is written with short, easy to read sentences and paragraphs. The chapters are organized in useful topics like 'suicide', 'loss of a friend', 'long term illness' ... so the reader can locate those areas that pertain to their own situation. Having lost my own mother ...

Important help for "new" parents
Our son came out at age 18. When I worked up the courage, 4 months later, to attend my first PFLAG meeting (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), the support of people who have already been there was wonderful. This was the first book they recommended, and it made a huge difference in my ability to bring order to my thoughts (and my conflicted heart), and not just to accept but to ...

Great book to have during nursing school.
This is a great book......would recommend this to any nursing student. It really helped me get through nursing level 2. It really breaks the important material down and makes it easier to understand. The CD has Nclex type questions that are really helpful as well.

Be proactive in your child's education!
I am a teacher of children with mild to moderate specific learning disabilities who went through the teacher education program at Ashland University in Ohio. Like countless other teacher education programs, ours stressed only a "whole-language" model of instruction, to the exclusion of all others, especially those that stress explicit phonics instruction. I bought this book at a symposium given ...

An excellent book! Couldn't put it down!
Robin Reardon has written an extraordinary second book. I read her first book, A Secret Edge, and found that one to be excellent. Thinking Straight is even better. The characters are so well-developed that they seem to spring from the page. The book contains humor, drama, and suspense enough to keep one reading on. Reardon spins her plot with the expertise of a well-established writer like ...

Excellent book
This series starts with the ultimate in basics and moves rapidly, in a well ordered fashion, to the essence of Algebraic concepts. The book takes what you learned in Arithmatic and shows you how it applies to upper Mathematics. The explainations are clear and precise with no fluff. We used it when my daughter was struggling with the conceptual jump from Arithmatic to Mathematics. The book ...

Islam: Fact or Fiction
Esposito does a fine job of relating Islam to the lay person. His text is easy to read, the definitions are solid and he dispells much of the myth surrounding Islam. The newest text references 9/11 and the radical sects which have surfaced since then. I would highly recommend this text to teachers and students alike; as well as those who are simply looking for a way to properly understand ...
