Great comedy films
Contains the screenplay for "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek" (to my taste, the most hilarious film of all time). When I worked as a cataloger at Newport Public Library, I constantly told my co-workers that I thought Preston Sturges wrote better dialogue than Shakespeare. I could prune lines from "Hamlet," but I couldn't cut a single line from "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek."

Who Took the Cookies From the Cookie Jar?
I am a kindergarten teacher and LOVE this book. My students enjoy the repetition of the phrases, "Who me, couldn't be!" and "Mmm... Oh!... Now I know..." as on each page skunk thinks he has solved the mystery of the missing cookies. Clever clues on each page help students predict which friend of skunk will appear on the next page. The happy ending, with all the friends sharing the cookies, ...

People cared for beautifully.
Gerry Badger, in a listing of 250 key photographers, refers to Jock Sturges as the leading photographer of the "natural" nude (p. 170, Collecting Photography, Mitchell Beazley). This is fine, as far as it goes, but is too limited an introduction to Mr. Sturges's work. Mr. Sturges's photography is not limited to nudes. Neither can his subject matter be properly described as the nude or the ...

Wonderful!!!!!
One of the best books I have ever read. I'm a 34 year old female who just finished treatment for lymphoma. Ms. Hyde captured my feelings and thoughts perfectly. I highly recommend this to anyone going through a battle with cancer or to any caregivers also. I wish I had found this book when I was actually having my chemo and radiation. Some of her pointers would have helped me a lot (ie. ...

One of the Best of the Year!
This book resembles the old western train ride at Disneyland before they transformed it into "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad." The opening pages have the same desert canyon terrain and hues of tan, umber, gold, yellow, orange, and purple. Illustrator Ashley Wolff places mountain goats in strategic locations (e.g., on top of boulders and natural terraces), an armadillo and a chipmunk read on top ...

Jack of Fables
Jack of Fables gets his own spin-off series! I have to admit, at first, I was sort of like, why? But, now I understand. It's because Jack kicks butt! In case you don't know, Jack also goes by Jack of the Beanstalk, Jack B. Horner, Jack of the Tales, and apparently Jack Frost in colder climates. When we last saw Jack in the Fables comics, he had become a huge player in the Hollywood scene, ...

My boys' all time favorite
This is my boys' all time favorite book. Living in NY it's only natural they developed a fascination with bridges. I bought this for them when they were 3+4 yrs old. It's got wonderful illustrations. We found it quite educational too. How many 3+4yr olds do you know that can drive across a bridge in NY and tell you 'this is a steel suspension bridge'! :) Would be a huge hit with the K grade level.

Sturges' Continuing Family Relationship - As we grow up
A superb example of natural people doing what comes naturally captured in a wholesome way. Through Jock Sturges' images, we see what we see around us every day - families growing older. His nudes are prime examples of beauty - of which Jock captures with a particular reverence. The subjects represent whole body acceptance - something our society lacks today. The book is well done, and the images ...

the genius of Giles Laroche
Giles Laroche's numerous books are magical, and this is one of his best. It is also educational, with a clear and well written text by Philomon Sturges. There is a short explanation of the great religions of the world: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and 26 descriptions of the places depicted. A useful world map is on the final page, so one can see exactly where these Sacred ...

Breath of fresh air
Reviewed by Susan Pettrone for Reader Views (1/07) "The Return of the Fertilizer King and Other Tales," by Mark U. Sturges, is a different sort of poetry book. Not your flowery poetry with tales of deep love or darkest moods, no, this is a poetry book written by a man who believes strongly in man's relationship with the insect world and their place together in it. Written in a lighthearted ...

My son loves this book
Yet another library book that we got out so many times for my son, that we decided to buy it. Philemon Sturges is one of my son's favourite authors. Fully recommend this book. It is one of the less wearisome books to read over and over. Should have bought the hard cover instead!!

An interesting fast read - highly recommended
I love books that give me the feeling for what a country is like while giving me a story about a person who I can care about. "Orchids of Venezula" was like that for me; I didn't want to put it down! From the opening when the forces of the coup are bombing the airport, through backflashes into Tamara Mata's interesting life and romances, I wanted to keep reading to see how it would all turn ...

Fabulous book for kids starting pre-k or kindergarten
My daughter received this when she started pre-K and loved it. It goes through a very busy day at school in a lyrical manner that kids love. The illustrations are perfect. It is a nice back to school gift for your favorite 4 or 5 year old or even to donate to his/her classroom.

A solid, entertaining yarn from a talented new writer
First off, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to say that Matt Sturges is a friend of mine. That said, though, I also have to say that my momma raised me right - she taught me that if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything. If I didn't honestly think _Midwinter_ was a hell of a good read, I wouldn't have written this review - I would have written him a private e-mail ...

The author has captured the life and times of a fascinating man by knowing the man from childhood, seeing those times first hand and the use of powerful writing skills. A terrific read.

An essential guide
This little book is an indispensible resource for any person who serves on an altar guild, the lay ministry in the episcopalian church responsible for making sure that everything on the altar and in the sanctuary is ready for worship. Altar guild ministry isn't for everyone, but it's both absolutely essential for the liturgy and a symbolic reminder of the necessity for conscientious labor in the ...

Excellent, Thourough Statics Text
The greatest feature of this book is the generous use of examples throughout. For every type of problem, there is some close example that you can refer to. Even though I didn't particularly enjoy the class for which this text was assigned, I think that the book itself is a great resource, and should be recognized as so.
