Fascinating Reading
I recently purchased Mr. Taber's new book, In Search of Bacchus and found it a very enjoyable read. I have visited 7 of the 12 wine regions he writes about, and he has documented them well. I particularly like his explanation of each region's wine history. The time and effort he has spent on researching each region shows in the detailed writing. I was also particularly impressed with Mr. ...

First published in 1965 and recently re-issued, this book is written by the only American who was with Castro instead of the CIA at the Bay of Pigs. In retrospect, and given that the anti-Castro Cuban exiles used their CIA training to assassinate John F. Kennedy (see Someone Would Have Talked: The Assassination of President John F. Judgment of Paris: California vs. France and the Historic 1976 Paris Tasting That Revolutionized Wine
Loved the historical recount of the land, the wineries and the wine makers, didn't love the superfluous progression of modern wine closing chapters.

Well told history of the cork with evenhanded discussion of the alternatives.
I am a neophyte wine drinker, and I purchased this book to give me some detail on this subject. "To cork or not to cork" gave me that and much more. I feel much more informed and am now able to hold a meaningful discussion on the topic of the wine closure. I found this book's treatment of the history of the cork to make it much more interesting thatn one would expect at first glance.

love it
As soon as I saw a co-worker with this program look something up in about a minute, I knew this was a program for me. It's quick and easy to use, tons of info at your fingertips. Easy to load on your PDA and easy to navigate, much quicker than finding your reference book at work and looking something up. And totally better than not looking it up at all.

Great Book for People in Bay Area
We live in Bay Area and have been using 9th edition of this book for several years exploring Santa Cruz Mountains. It has been a great experience! The book has a map of Santa Cruz Mountains at the beginning of it, with the parks marked on the map and the list of the park names. There are pictures for you to get an idea of the area, and very good educational description of the park.
